For the most part, we choose our wedding destinations because they have meaning. Of course, sometimes we choose them because they’re beautiful! But, the majority of us do opt to get married somewhere that has relevance to us. Being in a place with sentimental value seems right on your big day. It’s a good footing on which to start married life, especially if the place has relevance to the two of you as a couple. But, going to all that effort to have your wedding somewhere meaningful can seem to wasted if you don’t take efforts to capture the essence of that place in your photographs. If you opt for traditional pictures on a green backdrop, your wedding could have been in any old place. Instead, you should try to capture some of that place which means so much to you. Here are a few ideas about how you could achieve it.

DO YOUR RESEARCH

The first step is to do your research about the place you’ve chosen. Depending on its relevance in your life, you may already know a fair bit about it. If you grew up there, for example, you should already have an understanding of the culture. Even so, it’s worth researching. You could find out a lot of new things about a town you thought you knew! Interest aside, there is a practical purpose for taking this step. If you know the traditions and history, you can incorporate them into your photographs. Say your town is famous for a particular type of beer; you could make sure to get a picture of you all drinking it. This will be especially meaningful if it’s a beer you used to drink in your past.

GET A PHOTOGRAPHER WHO KNOWS THE AREA

Searching for a photographer who knows your chosen area will also help. They’ll already know the best ways to capture the essence of the place. Take a look at this photographer and others like him to get an idea of how much the backdrop of your destination can enhance your photographs. This option will also make your research that bit easier. You won’t need to find out what your photographer already knows! All you need to do is tell them what you’re after, and they should provide you with some stunning shots.

LET THE GUESTS GET INVOLVED

It’s always worth giving wedding guests a disposable camera when they arrive. It’s a fantastic and fun addition to any wedding. And, in this case, it could go a long way towards helping your case. Whether on purpose or by accident, your guests may well manage to capture the image of the place you’re after. In your wedding photographs, there will be a slightly more narrow view of what’s going on around you. But, if you have guests taking pictures of whatever takes their fancy, you might get some fantastic glimpses of the area that’s close to your heart. Of course, there’s no guarantee. But, you never know your luck!
