When you’ve never ventured to a place before, it can be hard to know where to find the most luxurious spots. There has been a rise in sites like TripAdvisor popping up in order to put our minds at rest and guide us to where we need to be going depending on our preferences, budget and lifestyle choices, but for those who want a little bit more, it can be hard to expand your knowledge – especially if the hidden luxuries are in places that most people don’t tend to travel to.

In The Animals

There’s a lot of color that Africa has to offer, with the majority of it being in the hoards of different species of animal that reside on the continent. Safaris are available for you to be able to witness it, whether you want to be up in the air with the birds within a hot air balloon, or down in the swamps with the crocodiles on a boat (don’t worry – you’ll be safe!). A lot of people find comfort in the little luxuries that the natural world has to offer, and none more so in Big 5 game viewing and luxurious accommodation to boot. A lot of safari trips offer great retreats for you to go back to after a hard day spotting all of your favorite animals, and they certainly don’t disappoint if you do your research into them. The season that you go in depends on just what animals you will see; there are different breeding seasons for different animals, so it’s a good idea to pick your favorite or the one that you most wish to catch a glimpse of when they’re tiny and go with that. A great tour guide will be able to take you to just the spots that you need to go in order to see them.

Piri Piri Seasoning – World Spice Blends

In The Food

Where else can you get little tinges of delight but in the food that you are eating? Different countries within Africa have their different cuisines, but as the original home of Piri Piri that is taking the world by storm currently, there is no better place to go to sample the spicy treats than on the continent. Luxurious cooking has been brought along by having to adapt to what’s around them, and you’ll find yourself eating rich, hearty meals prepared by those who have spent decades learning traditions that have been passed through the generations – definitely something to look forward to.

In The Accommodation

As well as the aforementioned safari accommodation, there are definitely other things which can pique your interest in terms of where you’re staying. Whether you want to hang out in the rain forest for a couple of days, relax in a fancy hotel or camp underneath the stars – whatever your definition of luxury  is definitely comes into play here. Don’t be afraid to have a look around online and get recommendations on where best to go. It’s dependent upon the reviews of others whether these places are still getting trade, so it’s best to have a good search and settle on something that ticks all of your boxes.

You may have noticed I’ve been posting a lot of a new brand on my Facebook page (give it a follow if you haven’t already). I am so proud to announce that Dirty Hippy Swag, the brainchild of  Marisa Rheem, one of my best high school friends, launches TODAY! Thank you to another St. Andrew’s classmate of mine, Kelly Stewart, who is working alongside Marisa, for penning the press release below.

Existential Crisis – White Sweatpants

Dirty Hippy Swag is an e-commerce startup, exclusively located online at www.dirtyhippyswag.com. With an ever-expanding collection, Dirty Hippy Swag specializes in comfortable street style apparel, as well as laser-cut designed and hand-beaded jewelry.

Founder and Designer Marisa Rheem believes in having clothes and jewelry that truly speak to her customers, making them feel safe and stylishly armored. As fellow millennial Madeline Harmon enthuses, “self-care and fashion have never looked so good!” It’s no accident that this company encompasses hoodies, sweatpants, and t-shirts: things we wear when we want to feel safe.

A fashion line emblazoned with cheeky, unwelcoming statements, Dirty Hippy Swag is the perfect platform to send a humorous yet powerful message. From their “Existential Crisis” sweatpants to their “Anti Social Club” necklace, Dirty Hippy Swag’s apparel and laser-cut designed jewelry allow you to clearly convey your mood to those around you without even needing to speak. Instead of feeling guilty and apologetic about needing time to unwind, slip into some Dirty Hippy Swag and let your clothes shield you from the outside world’s demands.

Oakland’s fresh new enterprise answers an unmet need for socially relevant fashion. Dirty Hippy Swag celebrates their customers’ purchasing power by transforming it into an opportunity to give back. By donating a portion from every purchase to trusted animal rescue organizations around the world, Dirty Hippy Swag bridges the gap between pursuing individual style and fulfilling our collective social responsibility as caretakers of this planet.

At the start of each new quarter, customers and fans can vote for their favorite animal rescue organization to become the next quarter’s beneficiary. This first season’s inaugural beneficiary is Rocket Dog Rescue, an all-volunteer nonprofit group dedicated to saving homeless and abandoned Bay area animals from euthanasia. Dirty Hippy Swag’s ultimate mission is to support the hardworking, silent heroes who dedicate their blood, sweat and tears to saving animals each and every day. By enhancing your wardrobe with Dirty Hippy Swag, you can help bring this vision to life.

For press inquiries, promotion opportunities, collaborative ventures, high-resolution images, or to book an interview, contact Marisa Rheem at 301-802-0551 or email, dirtyhippyswag@gmail.com, or visit the website at www.dirtyhippyswag.com. 8016 Shepherd Canyon Rd., Oakland, CA. 94611

Happy Friday! I’m home in Laytonsville today helping my mom decorate the house for the holidays. Tomorrow I’m heading up to Jersey for my Big’s baby shower, then on Sunday Kendall and I are hopefully decorating our own tree.

This week on The CaroLøve:

My cousin and her boyfriend are taking physical action and delivery supplies to water protectors at Standing Rock, and I couldn’t be prouder. If you can’t physically make it there and would still like to contribute, Eva suggests donating to OCETI SAKOWIN CAMP.

Have you gotten your holiday cards yet? If you’re looking to go personalized, I suggest Minted. I’ve seen some really gorgeous cards from there. If you want something a little bit different, fun, and a little naughty 😉 definitely go for Spaghetti Toes/ Harp And Squirrel, like the card featured above (now on sale!).

I’m a pizza FIEND, so I’ve been to most of these places around DC. Where do you get your favorite slice?

Kendall and I have been doing a little hiking recently, and while it’s getting chilly, I still wouldn’t mind hitting the outdoors closer to where I could grab Starbs after to warm up. Here are the top walks around the city.

This Spotify campaign is hilarious + smart. I wonder what my Spotify data would say about me… probably something about listening to punk covers of Christmas songs year round.

Whoever says that animals don’t have personality is so incredibly wrong. Check out these adorable puppers in a photo booth.

What are you all up to this weekend? Anyone else decorating?

Happy Friday! I’m hoping for nice weather on Saturday because Kendall and I are currently decided between hiking Shenandoah National Park and Calvert Cliffs State Park– taking advantage before it really does get too cold!

This week on The CaroLøve:

As we’re gearing up for Thanksgiving (less than a week away!) I’m trying to figure out my contribution to the big ole gathering at the Downing house. Maybe this pumpkin skinny dip from Suburban Simplicity?

If you’re like me you’re probably doing at least some most of your holiday shopping online. If you’re not using ebates, you should! I’ve earned about $100 back in the past year!

If you have, or know, any little ones, one of my favorite artists has put out a book of prose- Snips & Tails. I’m honestly thinking about getting it for a couple of new moms I know. The drawings + poetry are so sweet!

So I’m going with this dress from Rent The Runway- I tried it on totally out of the blue and it fit like a dream! I’m thinking about pairing it with funky navy velvet booties. What do you think?

Are you an ally of the District’s kitties? Contact your council member today to urge them to exempt cats entirely from the mayor’s authority to categorize invasive or nuisance species, and to keep Trap-Neuter-Return legal for all District residents.

Have a great weekend!

Happy Friday and see ya later, this week. I’m kind of starting my moving process this weekend- taking winter clothes home to my parents’ house, making a run to Uptown Cheapskate to see if I’m selling or donating some clothes I don’t wear anymore, and sneaking into The Container Store for some little things for the new place.

Yesterday I wasn’t feeling so hot. I was turned down for a job at my firm and while I understood why, it still hit me right in the pride. I took a few moments for myself and went to Kate Spade- while listening to Moon River because I am a drama queen. I swear I think Kate herself must be my fairy godmother- their Jazz Things Up collection is cats + music. I mean HULLO! Purrrfection. While I didn’t actually get anything from this line, I did pick up a purse I’ve been eyeing all summer one SUPER SALE. Coming to the blog soon!

Whirlpool has been donating washing machines to schools to help ensure kids make it to school feeling clean and proud. This instantly made me think of where my mom works. She often talks about how the parents of her students work 2 and 3 jobs to make sure their kids come to school happy, healthy, and well-dressed. There is so much that we take for granted, and I have never in my life needed to worry about having clean clothes. Well done, Whirlpool!

I love showing off my city to newcomers, but I have to say I could do without ignorant tourists. Some of these reviews of national landmarks/ museums are insane! Kind of like this expectation of bears.

And speaking of animals, we should all be like this sweet duck.

Summer is coming to an end. But before you PUMPKIN ALL OF THE THINGS, give the pineapple one last chance. Incidentally, I’m wearing my pineapple flats today.

I’m totally gunning for  Cheyanne Stonesifer, a little person, to be Miss Maryland USA this fall!

Have a great weekend! Remember to do something nice for yourself and for someone else.
