This may be my favorite shoot of all time ever for several reasons. Firstly, Dani of Blonde in the District is a joy to work with and a total sweetie. She actually organized the brunch for a little group of us at Ambar– there were new bloggers and experienced bloggers and in betweens, like me. No judgment of anything that anyone was doing, just advice and problems we’ve all had and a great feeling of girl-power. I actually got some amazing advice from Alison of Wardrobe Oxygen. I’m going to paraphrase here but when I told her that recently I’d felt discouraged and even considered saying goodbye to LBC1, she told me to not give up on my blog, but since it’s mine all mine, mold it to be exactly what I want it to be. There is no right or wrong here.

Secondly, Dani picked this amazing spot for our shoot. The Fridge is a cool gallery down by Eastern Market, and apparently their mural outside changes all the time. I can’t wait to go back.

Thirdly, I was kinda diggin’ my outfit. It was actually decently warm on Saturday, and I was so happy to be without the bulky coat.I’ve been doing so much business casual on my blog that it was fun to break away from that. I’m also obsessed with my little milk purse. For whatever reason, I’ve wanted a milk carton purse for like a year. Kate Spade had one, Betsey Johnson had one, SkinnyDip London had one… and I wanted one, but didn’t want to spend a ton on a novelty bag. Hi Amazon.com for under $10 🙂

ok- so this is technically an outtake- but this may be my favorite

I was born the day before St. Patrick’s Day, so I’ve combined the two holidays since I can remember. It started with green glittery sprinkled shamrock cookies for my birthday snack in grade school and evolved into (for the past couple of years) sharing a hat at The Madhatter with some close pals on the 17th. This year, I really did attempt to cancel my birthday, which is very unlike me, because I was feeling pretty overwhelmed. But I’m kind of surrounded by a ton of amazing people that wouldn’t let that happen. My parents, my friends- everyone I know has made this month special. I even got to see my favorite band and hang out with them for a bit after the show- that was a present to myself.

Parts of my look today were presents as well. The green dress is from my 21st birthday (edit: no it is not? I def got this dress for my 24th or 25th.) and has obviously become my St. Patrick’s Day dress. The jewelry set from Baublebar was a gift from two of my best friends and the tumbler was from my Little- one of my coworkers calls me kitten and I needed a new tumbler when the lid on my trusty giant mason jar broke. Perfect gift, perfect timing.

Anyway, it’s been a great March, and I’m feeling so lucky.

Up until last year, I was a total princess brat about my birthday. With my Year Of Weddings, I just didn’t have the energy and I tried to skip it all together. Even so, I ended up with a low-key bottomless pizza brunch with some of my closest pals and a v silly trip to Mission and Mad Hatter.

It’s no secret that I have a deep and unending love for Mission’s happy hour. Since my birthday is the day before St. Patrick’s Day, I wanted to go grab a drink there on the 17th to celebrate. A couple pitchers and a chorizo quesadilla later, we thought it would be brilliant to head down the block and split a Mad Hatter hat full o’ alcohol. I ended up wishing everyone a very happy Patrick De Queso and now I want to make it a tradition to head to my favorite Mexican spot on/ around my birthday/ St. Patrick’s Day. Makes sense, huh? Whatever.

This year, Mission and I are sharing a birthday party on the 16th. I’ll be working all day because it’s, like, on a Thursday, so no uber-cute St. Patrick’s Day gear for me. But if you’re doing something fun that weekend you probably need a fun top or a little something green so you don’t get pinched.

How ’bout this weather, huh? I’m currently putting this post together at 1:33PM on Wednesday and it’s 77 degrees and looks like  storm might hit in a little. There is also a chance of snow on Friday. WHAT?! And this is why everyone is sick and miserable.

Last Saturday, in the middle of my feeling pretty nasty, it was simply gorgeous out in the morning in DC. Because I wasn’t feeling so hot, I was actually extra warm and the thought of wearing much of anything was not appealing. Kendall was gearing up for his monthly trip to Mississippi for drill, and I was heading out to my meet my mom for lunch and light wedding planning. Of course I’m going to grab a good old Old Navy sundress and go from there. Urban Expressions had sent me a couple new pretty bangs to replace my broken Gia, and I couldn’t wait to take my Faith for a spin. The light blue + pink combo was giving me total rose quartz + serenity vibes. Of course my music-lovin’ self is adoring the guitar strap purse trend, and the studs make it even just a little bit edgier.

Something else I’m loving right now? I stepped from my silver to a lavender CELEB LUXURY VIRAL COLORWASH shampoo. It’s definitely more bold, but I love that it goes in and out of my hair so easily. In couple washes with “normal” shampoo, I can be back to blonde. I’m just having fun with it. I kind of like my unicorn/ fairy/ troll/ whatever hair, and I’ve been getting compliments from just about everyone but Mama D who I think is having flashbacks to when I was Avril Lavigne for several months in college. If you want to try it yourself in a more contained way, DCists can hop over to Illusions and get some fun color up in that hurr professionally. My DC stylist, Amanda, has me hooked! What do you think about it, honestly?

Recreate my look:

My 27th year has been my best one yet. The way it started honestly set me up the right way- an endless pizza brunch with my closest friends and my new boyfriend, followed by taking that new boyfriend home for Easter to meet my folks- everyone loved him. The boyfriend became the roommate in my sunny new apartment in September in a weirdly seamless transition. Then my roommate proposed to me on stage with my favorite band.

While Kendall has been a huge reason that this year has been so fantastic, I’ve made a lot of personal gains as well. It started with Dani, truly, and her organization of Bubbles & Bloggers. Without the network she started cultivating, I don’t know that I would have had to guts to relaunch my blog. I certainly wouldn’t have the main squad I run with in DC. I am forever thankful for my new friends. I am braver and more confident than I have ever been.

Speaking of friends, my 27th year also saw 3 of my oldest friends marry the loves of their respective lives. April, May, and June were a collective whirlwind of love and celebration.

Of course this year wasn’t all peaches ‘n’ cream, but the hard stuff that life always comes with makes the sweet stuff even better. As always, a huge thank you to my my parents for always being there when I need to come home, symbolically and literally.

My mom and Kendall have asked me what I want for my birthday. Honestly, I just kind of want to go to Mission for their own birthday celebration– yes I am twins with my favorite HH in the city- and celebrate with whoever is around and wants to join. I don’t need anything- I feel like I have it all! But since I’ve been making monthly wish lists anyway-basically craving all things soft + pastel, with a dash of… statement earrings? The funny thing is that I rarely wear earrings but I have been so drawn to several funky pairs recently.
