I’ve honestly just come to the conclusion that a I just need to try everything on. What looks good on one blogger person may not good on another. Pencil skirts are out for me, honestly, but MAN I can rock a skater skirt like nobody’s business. I tried a ruffle t-shirt dress I saw on another blogger that did absolutely nothing for me. That’s ok too. That’s what returns are for.

Does it not seem like all at freakin’ once ruffles have taken over, in a totally not-stuffy kind of way? I love it, but I have to be kind of careful with styling on my busty, curvy self. Last year, there was a J. Crew top that looked adorable on a lot of people. It was plaid with a ruffle kind of along the bust line. Real talk, it made my head look small and my chest look ginormous. I felt like a circus bear. But I tried two solid Halogen tops from Nordstrom that I absolutely love- here and here. The best thing is that they’re essentially sweatshirts but because of the ruffles, they’re ~FaNcY~. As I write this post, I’m wearing on with a statement necklace and jeans for an easy, fun, casual Friday look. How do you feel about the ruffles? I feel like they won’t be a trend for good, but they’re fun while they’re here!

I am kind of a nerd about the Pantone Color of the Year. I have patiently each year for the past few years for the colors to be announced.  Last year, I was let down with Greenery, especially after being so pleased with Rose Quartz + Serenity. This year, I actually found out early from an interior design friend. A few of us were having an intimate dinner/ drinks before a boozy 10 year high school reunion, and I’m not sure how Pantone was brought up but she proudly announced that her firm had a meeting and she was SO EXCITED for the new color.

Welcome, Ultra Violet.

I actually really love how Pantone seems to pick the colors based on what the world needs at the time.

(Note: after I typed the previous sentence, I found this quote: “The Pantone Color of the Year has come to mean so much more than ‘what’s trending’ in the world of design; it’s truly a reflection of what’s needed in our world today.” – Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute. So I was kind of dead on, huh?)

From their website:

A dramatically provocative and thoughtful purple shade, PANTONE 18-3838 Ultra Violet communicates originality, ingenuity, and visionary thinking that points us toward the future.

Complex and contemplative, Ultra Violet suggests the mysteries of the cosmos, the intrigue of what lies ahead, and the discoveries beyond where we are now. The vast and limitless night sky is symbolic of what is possible and continues to inspire the desire to pursue a world beyond our own.

Enigmatic purples have also long been symbolic of counterculture, unconventionality, and artistic brilliance. Musical icons Prince, David Bowie, and Jimi Hendrix brought shades of Ultra Violet to the forefront of western pop culture as personal expressions of individuality. Nuanced and full of emotion, the depth of PANTONE 18-3838 Ultra Violet symbolizes experimentation and non-conformity, spurring individuals to imagine their unique mark on the world, and push boundaries through creative outlets.

Historically, there has been a mystical or spiritual quality attached to Ultra Violet. The color is often associated with mindfulness practices, which offer a higher ground to those seeking refuge from today’s over-stimulated world. The use of purple-toned lighting in meditation spaces and other gathering places energizes the communities that gather there and inspire connection.

I mean… does this not sound like the recipe for a better planet? If Ultra Violet represents all of the above, bring it on. Not that I’m a huge fan of purple, but the symbolism is astounding. I kind of intend to surround myself with this color for 2018.

I seriously love all the plaid that’s everywhere during the Christmas season, but does anyone else feel like it has a really short shelf life? Like- I have a red and green and white plaid puffer vest that I feel like it can only be worn between Thanksgiving and Christmas because it looks too seasonal. Maybe that’s just me, but in any case, that’s where buffalo plaid (or buffalo check) comes in! It’s pretty and seasonal but not too Christmas, you know? And it’s everywhere- for home décor, for fashion, for entertaining- so you can have as much of it as you want and get a cozy lumberjack theme to carry you through the holidays and into the rest of winter (including using that nice red for Valentine’s Day).

A couple notes about my picks~ the Minted stamps are great for sending Christmas cards and those belated “holiday” or New Year’s Eve cards. The t-shirt is my own design, now available on Etsy AND Zazzle!

The older I get, the less I need and the less I want to ask for things for Christmas. Kendall had to put me on the spot to get me to tell him.  The funny this is that with my blog, I’m constantly scouring the internetz for pretty things to show you. Kendall asked me about my gifts under $25 post last week- “is this stuff you want?”

This funny thing is, yea, I want basically everything I post on my blog. But I know that there’s a difference between want and I need. I’m, once again, trying to control my spending so I really haven’t bought new clothes or shoes or bags recently. But I do enjoy doing these little wish lists and since I’ve been asked by more than one person for my Christmas list, here it is.

Let’s be clear though, my real Christmas wish is that everyone I love be happy, healthy, and safe in their holiday travels, especially my Kendall. We will not be together for Christmas day this year and I know I’ll miss him terribly. It’ll be OK though, we have forever to make up for it.

I am downright abusive to my sunglasses. I step on them, throw them into multiple purses, scratch them up as soon as I get them, etc. BUT at least I’m self-aware enough to know that it would be total, utter nonsense to drop big money on something that will last a year at best (if I don’t lose them first).

I have two requirements for sunglasses- that they be under $25 for the above reasons and that they have 100% UV protection. I may like ’em cheap, but I very much enjoy my green eyes and I want to keep them safe. Fun fact: if you have light eyes, they actually require more sun protection. Now, the source for that is my friend Patrick so I’m not entirely sure how accurate that is or how it works, but any reason to protect yourself seems valid.

So keep those peepers safe from the sun this summer without breaking the bank. All my picks in these post are under $25 and reflect my current fave trends in the glasses world! (I also did make sure that these all offer UV protection!)
