You’ve exhausted the chocolate supply in the cupboard and there aren’t many more series left on Netflix for you to binge on. You haven’t left the house in a week (and counting), also when was the last time you washed your hair? You’re getting through the initial trauma of a break-up and the time is coming for you to pick yourself up and move on. We have all been through a break-up before and if you have yet to experience one, take note for the future. The thought of watching happy couples saddens you when you’ve been dumped, but I’m here to help you feel strong, empowered and determined enough to get over your ex.

Breakup Care Package

Home Cleanse

One of the most difficult parts of a break-up is letting go of the memories that are scattered around your home. From photo frames shaped in a heart to ticket stubs from a concert you’ve been to together. It’s healthy to have a home detox and get rid of the reminders than make you sad every day when you look at them. Use this is an excuse to give your room a makeover too. You can buy new pictures for your walls and invest in some new luxurious bedding to completely overhaul your bedroom and erase the lingering memory of them.

This might be new-age of me, but I also suggest lighting a candle, collecting meaningful crystals, or even smudging with sage to get rid of negative energy. Who’s to say if it actually works but I know lighting a candle always helps my mood.

Body Beautiful

You’ve spend enough time eating your feelings post-break up, so let’s change your mindset and channel your anger into something positive. Head to your nearest dance class and shimmy your way to happiness, instead of punishing your body in a negative way. Maybe you have a personal tattoo on your body, which relates to your ex. If so, you need to get rid of it ASAP! Head to your local tattoo removal clinic get the everlasting mark on your body lasered away. You will soon feel brand new after a few sessions, so don’t delay in transforming your body back to its pure and powerful form.

Goodbye Gifts

Stop hanging onto the perfume he bought you for your birthday or the necklace you received for Christmas. You simply don’t need them, so throw them away and feel a sense of relief. There is no point in holding these possessions close to you, when the sentiment is no longer there. You will feel free again if you let go of the gifts from your ex.

Selective Socials

It is so important to get out of the house after you’ve had a break-up, but be selective about the social events you choose to attend. If you know your ex or their friends are going to be there don’t go! Choose a girly night with your besties instead of getting dressed up and trying to impress your ex.

Whatever you situation, you can get through it. Find your inner strength and display a proud smile. Now is your time to focus on yourself and do the things that make you happy. Take the chance to love yourself and don’t let anybody dictate how you feel.

My mom retired a couple of weeks ago after about 40 years of teaching. That means that she had a classroom to clean out and 40 years of stuff to go through. Most of it was given away, but she packed up her books to read with her future grand kids, and I ended up inheriting a great little shelf from her classroom that works perfectly in our entryway.

While I haven’t quite filled the shelf (I’ll document it when it’s all done and cute and up to my standards), I immediately knew that one of my Fresh Wave candles would be right on top. Although Pride Rock may not always be the tidiest of homes, I pride myself on it feeling fresh, so it would make sense that I put a candle to greet anyone who walks in the door. The Fresh Wave soy-based Candle is perfect for removing odors caused by cooking- and our kitchen is the first room you see when you walk into our apartment.

Keep in mind that Fresh Wave natural odor removing products use simple, pure and natural ingredients—water and a proprietary blend including natural extracts of lime, pine needle, aniseed, clove and cedar wood. There is a light fragrance to the candle, but without a perfume! We also keep the odor removing gel under our sink to help get rid of some pesky kitchen odors.

Since I’m still trying to figure out how the heck else to decorate our “entry shelf” (???) I’d love some comments below if you have something similar. How did you set yours up?

You may have had a long week at work, it might be your birthday, or you could just feel that you deserve it! Whatever the reason, we all wish we could be whisked away for a spa weekend every now and then. Unfortunately, it can often take time to travel to a spa. They’re usually set within beautiful grounds somewhere deep in the countryside. The time it takes to get there, coupled with the expense, is enough to put anyone off a massage! What if you didn’t have to travel anywhere for the ultimate spa experience, and what if it was a fraction of the price, would you do it…

Sage Candle

Setting the Scene

There are some essential things you’ll need to create the perfect atmosphere for your home spa. Let’s face it, children’s toys in the bath isn’t going to make for a very relaxing experience. The best way to transform your bathroom on a budget is to accessorize it. Buy items that will help turn the room into a tranquil spa, but can also be stored for everyday use.

Candles are a great first step. Buy scented candles to give a relaxing aroma. The key to any great spa is engaging all of the senses. Candles will help you to have dimmer lighting but also provide the key aspect of smell to help you relax and be transported. To create a really indulgent home spa, invest in some larger candles too. Little tea lights in jars are nice but some larger lanterns will really help to pull the look together. Make sure you have a good book, a stack of magazines, or a stereo outside the door. Whatever helps you to relax. Or you may just want to enjoy the silence.

Bath Bombs

The Perfect Products

Once you’ve set the perfect spa scene you’ll need to turn your attention to the products you’ll need. First and foremost make sure you buy a soap bubble bath. Choose a scented bath bomb or a simple bubble bath for you to relax and soak in. If you have any skin allergies or are worried about irritating your skin be sure to choose a hypoallergenic formula.

Next concentrate on the products you’ll need for your body. A body scrub is a good way to exfoliate and rejuvenate your skin. You only really need to exfoliate your body once a week, so incorporate this into your spa session. The next must-have product for the perfect home spa is essential oils. If you’ve been to a spa before you’ll know that these are everywhere. Used to perform relaxing massages and soften skin, essential oils have amazing benefits. After using these oils, which are extracted from plants and flowers, your skin should look restored and fresh.

Cotton Velour Robe

Finishing Touches

The great thing about a shower is the feeling of relaxation that washed over you and lasts even after the massages have stopped. What you don’t want is to undo all the stress releasing and unwinding that happened in your home spa. Make sure that when you step outside the door the feeling of calm can come with you! Invest in a great bathrobe. Richard Haworth have some which are worthy of any home spa. You’ll want one which is luxurious, absorbent, and comfortable. Similarly, make sure you’ve laid your pajamas and a pair of slipper out ready too. You don’t want to have to start searching for nightwear after your spa session.

So March was… in like… something and out like probably the same thing (a mess) because the freaking weather has taken us all on such an emotional roller coaster. But April showers bring May flowers and now I’m giggling to myself because next April, Kendall and I will be celebrating our wedding at The Mayflower and how perfect is that? April is a special time of year for my family. My mom’s birthday is April 9th, as is my parents’ anniversary (celebrating 29 years this year WHATUP!) and my Uncle Jay and Aunt Jeanie happened to pick the same date for their own wedding 6 years later! Lots of love, lots to celebrate in April!

It’s also usually the first month of the year to really feel like spring! As much as I love getting into the winter cozies, I’m over it. Bring on the sunshine. And in that vein, I bring you my April wish list.

the carolove april wish list

  1. I’m kind of digging this Cupshe Melodic Blues One-piece Swimsuit. Has anyone ordered from Cupshe before? Thoughts?
  2. Last year, Target had this amazing straw tote with pompoms that I really wanted… until I got to the store and it was big enough I could have put a couple toddlers or a weeks worth of clothes in it. The Rainbow Pom Pom Tote from t+j is a much better size AND I love the colors!
  3. I found the Women’s Wildfox More Glitter Manchester Tee last Friday when I was super sad that our CFO was retiring. “More glitter, less bitter” is the best sad day mantra.
  4. I’m still determined to try rainbow highlighter, and at under $10, I won’t mind this little purchase once Lent is over!
  5. This is one of the cutest collabs I’ve seen! If you can’t pick just one color, the Clinique Crayola(TM) Chubby Lip Crayon Box is just the thing for you!
  6. I love my nude studded heels, but they’ve been about run into the ground. Yay for
Betseyville Naveah Gladiator Sandals and their under $50 price point!
  7. Not going to lie, part of the appeal of the Shashi Caroline Necklace is the name. But I also obviously love the style!
  8. I keep going back to these Rachelle Tassel Chandeliers from Stella & Dot.
  9. Kendall + I kind of want to have a vintage picnic themed engagement photo shoot, but for a real picnic, the ban.do Watermelon Super Chill Cooler Bag is the cutest!
  10. Yes, I’m obsessed with going to Mission for margs with my girls. The Margaritas With My Senoritas Crewneck from Tees And Tank You seems appropriate.
  11. We’ve burned through almost all of the Christmas clearance candles I stockpiled, but it’s time for fresher scents anyway! Bring on the Mimosa Kiki&Me Tumbler Candle!
  12. Stripes. Always stripes. But it doesn’t hurt to have an unexpected detail like this Women’s J.crew Ruffle Sleeve Top.
  13. Candace and I never had jellies because my mom was smart and knew they were painful, sweaty, and not great for your feet. I got the adult version for a music festival a few years ago, and quickly learned that for myself. But the Kate Spade New York Fanley T-Strap Sandal seem like a great, slightly more grown up, option.
  14. Mint is a tricky color for me, but once I have a tan, here I come for this Pintucked Swing Blouse.

Last week, I brought you some fun gear for the bride/ Feyoncè. This week, I want to talk about the girls who keep it all going- the bridesmaids. I have been a bridesmaid 4 times, a flower girl once, heavily involved with a 5th wedding, and a guest at… I don’t even want to try to count. I’ve seen a lot of really cute gift ideas for the ladies who have spent so much time, and honestly, money, to make their bride’s day the best it can be. The fun thing is that every wedding I’ve been to, the gifts have been different, so I have a lot of ideas for my own ‘maids. Let’s break it down:

1||2||3

I was my friend TJ’s date for his girl friend’s wedding a few years ago. The bride had actually custom designed the dresses. They were champagne and emerald, a combo that I never would have even thought of but it worked! Then she got all the girls a set of earrings that were the same emerald color in the dress, but different for each girl. I thought that was the cutest idea! When I was MOH, my bestie gave us all Kate Spade New York Sailor’s Knot Stud Earrings, mine were rose gold, the other girls got silver or gold. That was super meaningful to me because we were there to help her “tie the knot”. Another wedding, we were given earrings that were all the same that the bride asked us to wear for the wedding. My only suggestion is that if you are to give jewelry for the ladies to specifically wear that day, communicate that clearly. It’s OK to do that. It’s your day.

Getting ready for a wedding is part ritual, part chaos, part slumber party. I think it’s such a nice touch to give the gift of comfort for the ladies because it also takes a hella long time to get ready. I’m talking ALL DAY. I actually wear my robes from my brides, and I really wear my pj pants from my Raleigh wedding. There are several options here. Robes seem to be the tradition, and the three I have are all different. I have a waffle-y one that’s monogrammed that feels like a day at the spa. I curl up with it on weekends, especially in the winter. It’s monogrammed. I have a thinner cotton one that’s great for the summer- that bride got our robes custom made so they would have pockets. This was great because we were running around the Ritz Bal Harbor like chickens with our heads cut off. Then I have a silky, sexy thing with my initial on it. Again, more of a summer robe and made for some cute pictures. My last bride got us pj pants from Old Navy, had them monogrammed, and added an oversized t for easy removal after hair and makeup. I like either the idea of a pj set or coordinating button down shirts, myself.

It’s always nice to give/ get an unexpected surprise. The wedding I was involved with, but not in, the bride gave all her ‘maids a selfie stick! This made for some really adorable pictures at the wedding. The couple had also set up a DIY photo booth, and they went nicely with that. I’m also a fan of customized cups or glasses for sipping (read: not chugging) champs while getting ready. Other cute little items I’ve received include nail polish, scented candles, and flip flops. Think grown up goodie bag which brings me to…

You have to put all these gifts somewhere, right? Not saying you have to get your bridesmaids a monogrammed tote like my bestie MOH did, but it was definitely and really nice touch AND I used it for my other weddings to carry gear for the bride and the other bridesmaids. A cute gift bag is  another option- maybe in the colors of your wedding. The one thing I would steer away from here, and maybe with the other gifts as well, are pieces that actually say bridesmaid on them. I feel funny using the one tote I have like that, and chances are somewhere along the line your girls received something that does indicate that they are, in fact, part of your bridal party. Let the gifts you give them that day reflect a thank you for all the work they’ve done leading up to your big day- and that everyone’s almost done with all the hard parts!
