Last Wednesday, Bubbles & Bloggers had one of our coolest meetups yet. We headed down to Ivy City to Republic Restoratives to enjoy our custom Fresh In The District cocktails, learn about how Fresh Wave works, snack on some delicious treats from Homeshed Kitchens, and leave with the cutest Scout gift bags. While I’d certainly heard of Scout, I didn’t know much about the other brands an d it’s always fun discovering new places and products with my favorite ladies.

Republic Restoratives is woman-founded, “community funded and community driven,” making it the perfect place for a gathering of community minded women to get together. The space itself is really awesome- Dani and I were brainstorming future events while we were still there. Our Fresh In The District was delicious and made just for us! I’m not sure if they’re keeping it around as a permanent item on their menu, but I would recommend if you can get down there to try it!

Fresh Wave is a new-to-me company, but many of the ladies at the event had heard of them and love their products. I’m huge on candles, fragrance, and freshness in my home, but the difference between some of the scents that I use and Fresh Wave is that their products are all-natural. No harsh chemicals. No heavy perfumes. No toxic ingredients. While it was brought up that this is great for pets and kids, let’s be real- natural is better for everyone! I’m currently using the odor removing gel that came in my gift bag and I love the scent!

Thank you to Republic Restoratives, Fresh Wave, Homeshed Kitchens, and Scout for a wonderful night out, and of course to Dani for planning!

We like to have themes for our meetups which makes for awesome pictures in semi-coordinating outfits, and our theme was green. Weirdly enough, I don’t actually own a whole lot of green, so I went for greenery instead with my tropical dress from Old Navy. I love love love the pattern on the dress but the dang thing shrank in the wash, making it a cute tunic.

I don’t typically wear a lot of blue, much less blue on blue, but this has been one of my favorite casual Friday outfits in a long time. The top is from Shoptiques, which I had heard of but never shopped at until my awesome cousin Dionne sent me a certificate for Christmas. The idea behind Shoptiques is pretty awesome-5,000 BOUTIQUES, 2,000 CITIES, 30 COUNTRIES, all in one place! I ended up with the top in this post, a striped dress, and a mini perfume (on major sale!)to keep at my desk. I love the way this top fits- I’m a big fan of the loose peplum look.

The sweater is actually from LuLaRoe. I’ll be honest, I hadn’t heard great things about this brand except from Gentry + one of my coworkers who lives in their leggings. I’d been invited to a couple LuLaRoe parties on Facebook but I never really got it. (Gentry explains how LuLaRoe typically works in her post linked above.) My church does an annual holiday bizarre and there was a LuLaRoe consultant there with a ton of merchandise. I tried on a couple things- the dresses hung (hanged?) really weird on me but I instantly fell in love with this buttery soft kimono/ cardi situation. Seriously one of the softest things I’ve ever owned. I also got a crazy pair of leggings which might not ever make their way on the blog but they are SUPER soft.

2 new (to me) brands that I tried and loved. New year, new shopping- what’s a brand that you’ve discovered recently? I’d love to know!

Happy New Year!

With the arrival of 2017 comes a whole new bunch of glitzy, glamorous trends as well as bold innovative twists on old favorites. Finally, the fashion world will see a move away from the skinny jean, de rigueur for many seasons, and see the introduction of  structured tailored trousers as well as loud stripes, cute sneakers and artistic prints. These pieces are perfect for relaxed lunches, casual catch ups with friends and laid back board meetings, you’ll be able to dress them up and down all year long as well as mixing them with some wardrobe staples.

J.Crew – Polka-dot Tulle-trimmed Striped Jersey Top

Stripes

Known in the industry as the ‘new white T-shirt’ stripes will continue to dominate the catwalks and thus the shop windows this year. A smart monochrome striped shirt dress paired with chunky silver accessories and black wedges is perfect for work, while you’ll feel casual yet fashionable in a simple striped T-shirt, boyfriend jeans and nude ballet flats out on a coffee run. If you’re cute and curvy avoid horizontal stripes as they can make you look bigger than you actually are, for those who wish they had a more defined waist chevron stripes will help to give the illusion of an hourglass figure.

Cute Sneakers

Long gone are the days of plain white pumps. This is the year of the glitter, colored, and even cartoon style emoji patterned sneaker so the busier the better. Think purple satin, wild leopard and jewel coloured tones as well as embracing your creativity by planning your outfits around you snazzy sneakers. Bring out your inner dancing queen with a tulle skirt, lace top and silver glitter sneakers for a twist on the date night LBD. When summer comes step out in your satin sneakers paired with gorgeous Maxi dresses for beautiful, boho looks and don’t forget your cat eye shades.

Elie Tahari York Sleeveless Watercolor Maxi Dress

Artistic Prints

Unleash your inner artist by wearing one of 2017’s best trends yet comprising of pastel colored prints, watercolor inspired dresses and swirling multi-colored patterns. Designers continue to be inspired by past masters, new contemporary painters and even student art shows when it comes to creating these artsy, flowing garments. Pair a gorgeous silk print blouse with a pair of wide leg white trousers and statement cherry red mules for the ultimate outfit of the day.

Prada Suede Bow Mule Flat

Magical Mules

This year 90’s favorite the mule is once again going to dominate the street with high heel mules, flat mules, low block mules, velvet mules, sneaker mules and print mules all fighting for our love. The mule started making a comeback late last year, taking over from the impossibly high stiletto heel and women everywhere breathed a sigh of relief. Over the next few months you’re going to see every style, color, and pattern of mule imaginable and you’re going to want every single pair!

Women’s Current/elliott Cable Knit Cardigan

Easy Elegance

We saw a glimpse of casual athletic wear on the runway last year and you’ll be pleased to know it’s making a welcome return. Structured shirts, slouchy cardigans and cropped trousers will be among the rise of easy elegance clothing which finally satisfies our desire to feel comfortable while looking gorgeous.

One of my favorite words is darling, and if there was one word to describe this Old Navy dress, darling would be it. The fit is perfect and the pattern is so sweet. I didn’t realize until my haul came in from my sale purchases, but there are actually little bunnies hidden among the flowers and leaves in the pattern.

You know what drives me nuts though? Fast fashion as a concept. This dress, for example, I’ve had for less than a month and it’s already sold out in most sizes- so if you like it and they still have it in your size, grab it quick. I’m a medium petite. I ordered something in the wrong size for someone for Christmas and went to exchange it for size and it’s already gone. I find this from almost everywhere I shop!

I’m not saying that the clothes are necessarily cheap quality. Cottony basics are cottony basics no matter where they’re from. My mom has said so many times that if Target had been around when Candace and I were little that that’s what we would have worn, rather than, say, Children’s Place, which has essentially the same stuff at double the price. I just hate that the cycle of clothing goes so fast. It’s not just inexpensive retail either- J. Crew, Ann Taylor, etc. I find the same thing! Fast fashion is actually made to make you feel out of trend quickly, according to this article from Huffington Post, and while I don’t wear a whole lot from stores known to be fast fashion (think Forever 21), I have been trying to set my eyes on more quality and timeless styles.

Mini-rambling-rant aside, this is definitely my new favorite dress. My firm has a Thanksgiving luncheon and I always try to look extra cute on days where I see the whole firm- I’m usually tucked away in my cubical, and I’ll probably wear it for the big Thanksgiving gathering at my parents’ house.
