It was one of those weeks that dragged so badly that I thought it was Wednesday for half a day on Thursday. This weekend includes catching up with Kendall after a week of opposite schedules, shooting with Sarah on Sunday morning, a music meeting with my wedding church, and stuffing some wedding invites with my mom. Very grateful for some fam time on Superbowl Sunday as well. I honestly couldn’t care less about football, but I love eating with my family so there.

Have you ever heard of Brandless? All of their products are $3, good for you, and good for the planet! I plan on making the switch to Brandless products ASAP, the next time I need anything around the house. I’ll let you know how that goes!

Swoozies has an amazing selection of Kate Spade gifts for spring. All of it is adorable, obviously.

How freakin’ cute are these little love potion bottles? Perfect for a wedding or Valentine’s Day party favor!

Kendall and I decided we are going to get serious about being healthy and fit. I hopped to Trader Joe’s to get fruit, almond milk, and other fixins for smoothies. I found this guide to making the perfect smoothies but I want to know- what’s yours? via Yogurtiamo

How awesome does Dani look with this vintage styling?

Rox dropped some pretty great golden birthday wisdom that I can totally get down with!

I’m pretty sure that every party should have an herb wall for surprise cocktails like the Segura Viudas Open Up Cava Event at Heist that Sarah went to.

Last Friday before 2018! Kendall and I opted for a romantic night with dinner at Hunting Creek and fireworks to bring in the new year. We’re going to play with my new camera this weekend and hopefully I’ll have lots of fresh content soon! Absolutely psyched we might get some snow this weekend too!

Lately on The CaroLøve

Since I have barely posted this week, I thought it would be interesting instead to see my top nine most popular posts from the last year, partly because I want to see what got your attention and partly to just look back and reflect on this insane year. Oddly enough- no outfit posts made it! In ascending order (9 ~~> 1):

  • Engagement session with Darrell McDavid– We absolutely love our wedding photographer! He really captured us well and I can’t wait to see his work on the big day!
  • Cupshe swim– This kind of goes to show you that women just want affordable swimwear that makes them feel confident!
  • Gifts for her || stocking stuffers under $25– This was a weird one to make the list, especially since it came so late in the year! But it makes me happy because I love putting together this post annually!
  • Posypaper planner– This is still my favorite planner that I’ve used thus far. I’m trying a new one this year… wish me luck!
  • Introducing Dirty Hippy Swag– It warms my heart that this one made the list! So proud of my friend Marisa for designing her own line!
  • WCW: Sophie Pyle of Rosé Media– I have a feeling that this one has been viewed so many times because the subject has her own media company (and knows everyone in DC). Also her sister shared it. Sophie gets a lot of love 😉
  • Buyer beware– This one actually surprised me! I thought it was kind of a ranty mess but I guess others trying to scope out a weird scam situation have stumbled upon it and I guess that was kind of the point!
  • Left behind– I wrote this post after a classmate of mine passed. His funeral hit me really, really hard. I want to give a huge heartfelt thank you to every person who read or shared this. I just hope it can be of some help to other siblings who have lost siblings
  • I CHECKED YES– My engagement announcement seemed to mean the most to you all as well! It was truly a magical way to start off the year and I can’t wait until April when I finally get to be Mrs. Caroline Suzanne Downing Price.

I’d love to hear about your top moment from 2017!

I’ve got my eye on…

Not sure if it’s fair to say I’ve got my eye on them since I already bought them with some Christmas money from my gramma but I can’t wait for my Zeke Booties to come in! via DSW

I know it’s listed as nursery décor, but I would seriously love this deer print for our bedroom! Would it be weird to register for it? via DannyBStudios

Literally every bride I have asked has told me I don’t need a wedding purse. But I so love this Dyed cotton clutch… and everything else in this shop. via DDSLLGirlsStore

Paris Hilton, a personal fave of mine (jokingly, kind of) has come out with a rose water spray called Unicorn Mist and I must have it.

If you’re not big on Ultra Violet, no worries. Here are the biggest color trends we have coming at us for 2018. via Popsugar

I downloaded the Wish App but have yet to pull the trigger on actually buying anything. I’ve been researching reviews because the prices seem too good to be true a la those fast fashion websites based in China. I found a pretty decent review on YouTube where Julia Elise reviews a variety of items. Bottom line- you get what you pay for and pay attention to the dimensions.

Will we look back on 2017 trends with the same love/ hate with which we look back on the early 2000s? Only time will tell. But what do you think of these 10 Fashion Trends That Need to Die in 2017? (My personal opinion is wear what you want and you can pry my cold shoulder tops and dresses out of my cold, dead little paws.) via Cosmopolitan

…charcoal that is. I’ve been naughty- to my skin. Let me explain.

Just when my skin was happy, soft, and clear… I messed up. I read a blog post from a British blogger about a Korean BB cream with tea tree oil in it. I was intrigued, as tea tree oil is supposed to be very good for the skin. I found it on Amazon for under $10 and decided to give it a go, even though I was perfectly happy with my Neutrogena Healthy Skin Enhancer  for every day.

Ladies, if I teach you nothing else in the whole of this entire blog- let me tell you that once you find something that works for your skin, don’t mess with it! Especially if the ingredients are in another language because who the heck knows what I was doing to myself.

I went from having skin complimented by makeup friends to the return of the cystic acne all over my chin and neck. It’s horrible. I call it uggo-face and I feel like I’m back in middle school. And my stubborn ass just FINALLY threw the stuff away because I didn’t want to waste it. Yes. I KEPT using it like an idiot until I finally started getting itchy hives on top of the breakout. No. More.

I told you yesterday about my online Etsy community. I have found some of the nicest little extras for Christmas from that group, but I also went to these makers with my skin problem. Not only did I receive a bunch of product suggestions, but an aesthetician also answered my plea for help. She said to monitor my stress levels, monitor my cycle (hormones have a lot to do with chin acne), pay attention to my diet, and watch my routine for talking on the phone more, etc. She also suggested a mask and an exfoliator one to two times a week.

Based on her suggestions for a routine and the recommendation of products from other Etsy sellers, I think I’ve come up with a new skincare routine. I’m wanting to go more natural with my skincare, because forget ingredients being in another language, even if they’re in English I don’t always know what they are and that’s probably not good.

Check out the products on my wish list to help get me glowing again:

Anti-Acne and Facial Cleansing Mask

Tea tree oil, Vitamin E, Honey, Cinnamon, Witch hazel

Activated Charcoal Scrub

organic Shea butter, sunflower oil, mango butter, colloidal oatmeal, activated charcoal

peppermint charcoal goats milk soap

EDTA, Triethanolamine, sorbitol, Titanium Dioxide, goats milk powder, Lauric acid, sodium hydroxide, aqua, coconut oil, palm oil, glycerin, peppermint essential, activated charcoal

Frankincense Face Cream

frankincense essential oil, meadowfoam oil, vitamin E, jojoba oil, citric acid and sunflower oil, goats milk

I can’t wait to try out my more natural skincare routine, and I’ll keep you updated on what works (hopefully all of it). Plus I love that I’m supporting small businesses and let’s be honest… the packaging is way cuter than anything you’d find at a drugstore!

Ok so remember when I said that having my own Etsy shop would be a learning experience? It has been, believe me.

One of the best things I’ve done is join a Facebook group devoted to Etsy buyers and sellers. I say this as not only a seller- but as a buyer I found a few really perfect Christmas presents/ stocking stuffers that I might not have found otherwise. It’s a funky little community, but mostly supportive, and very forthcoming with the advice.

It’s not a secret that I’ve wanted to have my own t-shirt line since… forever? The rise of graphic tees when I was in middle school probably really kicked it off. Logistically, I didn’t think I’d really be able to make it happen for a quite a few years. There’s the cost of production, keeping track of inventory, and shipping- not to mention the upfront cost of all of that- just is not feasible for my current budget and lifestyle. Playing around with Amazon and Zazzle, I got a couple things going. I’ve even made sales on Zazzle- and not just from myself! It didn’t seem quite right having two totally different shops though- Etsy for my digital prints and Zazzle for my shirts, but I would make it work. Until, from the aforementioned Facebook group, I found a place that could integrate my designs into products and link directly to my Etsy, even pricing the products for me. HOLLAH! Printify makin’ my dreams come true.

Here’s the short version of how it works- I decide what products I want my designs on, upload the designs to that product, and then Printify links the product directly to my Etsy. I can edit the product description, title, etc. on my Etsy once that’s finished, and it’s right there in my shop! They take care of the production and shipping.

Somewhat related, I also bought a Print On Demand License from my favorite graphic shop on Etsy. I chose WriteLovely to be my exclusive design “partner” for many reasons: she has a huge selection of gorgeous graphics, they’re inexpensive, buying a license from her insures that all my designs are legally mine, and having one graphic person I work with will make my shop more cohesive. I’m not going to close my Zazzle shop, because what’s the point of disregarding all the work I’ve already put into that? But going forward, my Etsy will be my focus, along with, of course, continuing to build my blog brand.

Thank you for sticking with me as I figure this all out!

I’ve been pretty equally split this year buying Christmas presents from department stores and small businesses (mostly Etsy), and honestly I’m the most excited about the small shopping I’ve done. Not only because the gifts are personalized and unique, but also I’m proud to support small and local businesses, and wanted to highlight a few women I know personally IRL who have hustles and heart. Consider shopping with them this holiday season because you’ll be supporting a woman making moves for herself, and often her family.

Boss Babe 10×8 Digital Print

Brittneigh: Limelight by Alcone

I’m a Beauty Guide for Limelight by Alcone. We’re a Chemical Free professional grade cosmetic and an all natural skincare line! To sum it up, we bring What the professionals use straight to your home!

Our Holiday Lip Ornament is my go too gift this season which includes a mini Enduring Lip Color which goes on creamy, dries matte, and can last between 6-8 hours! And also a mini lip gloss which has a super cute blingy applicator and pairs perfectly with our Enduring Lip Color. Perfect stocking stuffer or gift for the holidays for only $24!

Olivia: Crimson Treasures

My business Crimson Treasures is just my idea of interesting handmade jewelry that I myself would wear. I like quirky and out of the box things so I try to make my pieces very unique. My pieces also all include crystals that have unique healing properties which adds to the quirkiness. Crystals have always been a big part of my life and I love to use them in every piece that I make.

The only recommendation that I have for other women owned businesses is just to do what you feel is right. Make and produce things that you love and never change for anyone. You created your business for a reason and you need to stick to it. Also, have fun!

My favorite product is this rainbow titanium aura quartz necklace. I love rainbows and these crystals are just amazing with their colors.

Julie: Mary Kay

I started my Mary Kay business 4 years ago. I used Mary Kay makeup prior and liked the quality of the products. It wasn’t until I became a consultant that I started using the Timewise Miracle Set skincare line.

My favorite pamper my skincare gift bundle is the Mix & Mask, it is a Hot new multimasking trend!

You use different Mary Kay masks to target different areas of your face and address specific skin needs all at once.

The bundle includes:

  • Clear Proof Deep-Cleansing Charcoal Mask: This triple-action charcoal mask deeply cleanses skin and helps clear the way to beautiful, clearer-looking skin.
  • Timewise Moisture Renewing Gel Mask: Instantly hydrates, locks in moisture, de-stresses, purifies, nourishes, calms, firms, smooths, softens and minimizes pores.

If you’d like to purchase from Julie, please contact her via her Facebook!

Erica: Stella & Dot

I’m a stylist with Stella & Dot! I absolutely love helping others to have fun with accessories and find amazing style-even on a budget! Reach out with any and all styling needs!

This Rosé all day gift set is a chic and affordable holiday treat! Featuring best-selling luxe studs and the perfect pouch to pair it with.

After Christmas, I’ll highlight where and what I got from small businesses, but I don’t want to accidentally give away any surprises. What’s your favorite way to shop small?

Don’t forget you can also shop small from ME on my Etsy & Zazzle shops!
