I cannot start today’s post without first thanking everyone for the support on my post yesterday. It meant the world to me how receptive and understanding folks were to my thoughts on a subject that is on my mind each and every day. It actually opened the door to a couple conversations that I think needed to be had as well. Thank you, sincerely, from the bottom of my heart.

Ok- so back to the regularly scheduled programming.

I have described the town where I grew up as equal parts Lilly Pulitzer and camo. I have a Realtree camo hat with a pink monogram. A little bit country, a little bit preppy. Now engaged to an Army man, I actually asked Kendall what he thought of camo clothes, because I would never want to offend him by turning what he works for into some fashion that he finds frivolous.

“I don’t like it.”

“Can you elaborate?”

“It’s green.” (green is his least favorite color)

He also thought it was RULL dumb when Forever 21 was selling what were essentially recently retired PT (physical training) t shirts for $40. (He said he’d sell you his for $20. He also said they’re like $7 for a pack of them so he’s price gouging you too). But I look good in green and he doesn’t mind me wearing camo and I still like it so there you go.

Last Wednesday, Bubbles & Bloggers had one of our coolest meetups yet. We headed down to Ivy City to Republic Restoratives to enjoy our custom Fresh In The District cocktails, learn about how Fresh Wave works, snack on some delicious treats from Homeshed Kitchens, and leave with the cutest Scout gift bags. While I’d certainly heard of Scout, I didn’t know much about the other brands an d it’s always fun discovering new places and products with my favorite ladies.

Republic Restoratives is woman-founded, “community funded and community driven,” making it the perfect place for a gathering of community minded women to get together. The space itself is really awesome- Dani and I were brainstorming future events while we were still there. Our Fresh In The District was delicious and made just for us! I’m not sure if they’re keeping it around as a permanent item on their menu, but I would recommend if you can get down there to try it!

Fresh Wave is a new-to-me company, but many of the ladies at the event had heard of them and love their products. I’m huge on candles, fragrance, and freshness in my home, but the difference between some of the scents that I use and Fresh Wave is that their products are all-natural. No harsh chemicals. No heavy perfumes. No toxic ingredients. While it was brought up that this is great for pets and kids, let’s be real- natural is better for everyone! I’m currently using the odor removing gel that came in my gift bag and I love the scent!

Thank you to Republic Restoratives, Fresh Wave, Homeshed Kitchens, and Scout for a wonderful night out, and of course to Dani for planning!

We like to have themes for our meetups which makes for awesome pictures in semi-coordinating outfits, and our theme was green. Weirdly enough, I don’t actually own a whole lot of green, so I went for greenery instead with my tropical dress from Old Navy. I love love love the pattern on the dress but the dang thing shrank in the wash, making it a cute tunic.

Getting to dress up in a theme is one of my favorite things to do, and the 4th of July is one of the best holidays for that. In DC, it’s already heating up and I’m trying to figure out how to wear as little as possible while still representing that red, white, and blue. I’m especially excited that I get to celebrate with my army guy since he’ll have returned to me. (EEK! He’ll be home Friday/ Saturday and I CANNOT WAIT!)

While his outfit is probably consisting of either this shirt or these shorts I picked up for him the last time he was away, I haven’t figured mine out. I kind of want to wear this dress or this one, but I can’t find either. I’m starting to think there’s a troll in my closet eating my clothes- either that or there’s a purple bin I haven’t touched since I moved in. REGARDLESS- what is this patriotic princess to do?

If you’re trying to figure out an insta-worthy outfit on a budget, I’ve rounded up some of my favorite pieces under $50 to help get you started. I can’t wait to see all that red, white, and blue!

We’re all familiar with that one line from Devil Wears Prada:

Yes- florals are all over for spring and yes this isn’t exactly new news, but I can’t help but love a good flower print this time of year. It doesn’t even have to be a print, tbh. Anything flowery to celebrate that small amount of time we get between too cold and too hot is a good thing.

Besides that, it’s be relatively dreary out. April showers are supposed to bring May flowers… but showers it is. And has been for what seems like an eternity. Even this past weekend, DC was treated to mostly showers and cool weather, keeping this salty biotch out of the pool and shopping instead. I guess that’s a sign that it’s time for me to start making my own sunshine, or flowers as the case may be.

You know the type site- they pop up on your Facebook with too-good-to-be-true prices promising the trendiest pieces + free shipping. I have, unfortunately, fallen victim to sizing that makes no sense and quality deficiencies that you can’t see online, but I’ve learned my lesson. Read the reviews, check and double check the sizing chart, and don’t spend a ton of money if you’re unsure. Sarah did a great review of one such site when she had some great luck with StyleWe, so i figured I’d let you in on my new summer lifesaver: Cupshe.

I’ve ordered inexpensive bathing suits before and ended up with ill-fitting, unlined messes. This is not the case with Cupshe. I have a difficult time finding bathing suites that fit me anyway, usually having the best luck at (surprise!) Target. But the Cupshe Melodic Blues One-piece Swimsuit caught my eye and I knew I had to at least try it. AND GUESS WHAT! Even though it’s white and I’m a funky shape, it fits like a dream! The off-the-shoulder makes it sexy but I still feel covered enough to be confident. I’m a solid medium. Just for fun, I also got the Cupshe Cute Succulent Plants Floral Bikini Set because I lurve the design on the top. Again, perfect. I don’t think I’ve been the same size on the top and bottom since 8th grade, but the medium worked so nicely! 10/10 recommend this site. Make sure to check the size chart, because I thought I would be a large. And your suit(s) may take a bit to come in, but I promise the wait is totally worth it for the quality/ price (all under $30!)

Check out some of my faves!
