This post is so tardy to the party and I apologize. A few weeks ago, for our October meetup, Bubbles & Bloggers hosted and intimate chat at Mission with Ashlee of Cobolt Chronicals and Contracts for Creatives.

Bloggers are told time and time again that they should have a contract when working with brands. This is something I have ignored the teensy-est bit, and I’ve gotten away with it because the brands I work with an myself have been good at delivering our end of the bargain. Plus, I figured that since our terms are outlined in an email, that’s basically a contract, right?

Wrong.

While I was totally stoked to find out that a contract doesn’t have to be created by a lawyer to make it binding, it does need to be signed and dated by both parties.  Ashlee filled us in with what it takes to have a good contract in the blogging world, and I feel confident that I can put together a contract of my own. However, I would probably have her review it to be safe, which is one of the services she offers. Definitely check her out if you need legal help with your blog!

But let’s go back for a second to “I can put together a contract of my own”. This blog, and the ones that came before it (Getting Warped, Case of the Mondays, and Little Bitty City One) has been a total learning and growing experience. Yes, I was inspired by bloggers to start my own, but I’ve done it pretty much solo since then. This is absolutely not to discredit the friends I’ve bounced content with, traded photo-shoots with, and shared resources with, but when it comes down to it, The CaroLøve is all me.

I’ve figured out how to do a little bit of coding, found the plugins to make my blog go my way, played with what works and what doesn’t. When I grew out of Little Bitty City One, I started The CaroLøve as a blank canvas. Even that has evolved. I don’t want my blog or myself to stop growing and I probably spend about 5 hours a week reading articles on blog growth or technology etc.

So hear this, fellow bloggers- when you’re feeling a little slumpy, look back on everything you’ve done, achieved, created. Be proud of it, but don’t become complacent. Thank the friends who have helped you along the way, but don’t discount how much you really have done on your own.

A couple weeks ago, Kendall + I had a serious discussion about adventuring. With his work schedule,  it’s harder to plan weekend romps and day trips, so we decided we need to at least explore this great city that we live in more. My old roommate was having a birthday get together, so we decided to take the morning for us and just walked around the DuPont/ Logan Circle area.We grabbed sushi at one of the few places that is open between 2 and 5, and Kendall asked if he could take some pictures for my blog since he’s noticed that I haven’t been doing many outfit posts. (He’s such a great insta-husband-to-be.)

So, I actually got this top thinking it was a dress. I put it on, and Kendall was visibly confused. I stuck my white jeans on under it, and it definitely looked better. This is one of those outfits I think my mom will hate- it features skulls, ripped jeans, and a cold shoulder. But I think it’s fun! It makes for a great weekend outfit especially if I’m stuffing my tum full of sushi, cupcakes, and drinkies from Orange Anchor, like I did that day.

I’m so into the western skull motif kind of out of nowhere- see my other western-inspired picks below my outfit details!

My love-hate relationship with Forever 21 started in middle school. I was obsessed with New York because Dream Street was from New York and one of my close friends got me and I HEART NY t-shirt from Forever 21. Previously, Mama D. had me steer clear of the trendy mess of a haven for teeny-boppers because their clothes were, well, cheap. Case in point, the shirt turned everything we washed it with pink. That didn’t stop me from shopping there for years for clothes to wear for one night or to try the latest trend at a low price.

The Forever 21 at Metro Center is huge and intimidating (3 floors and employees that have no idea where anything is because how could they), but I’ve run in for little gifts, workout gear on the fly, and even one night when I had an impromptu date after work but was looking EXTRA Friday casual and wanted to jazz up my look.

This is actually a pretty funny story. I had a guy on Tinder message me and ask me out one Friday night. We agreed to meet at Hank’s Oyster Bar but when I got there after getting myself a new little outfit from Forever 21 after work, he told me he hated seafood. So then he took me to a a gay bar. When he left for a moment to use the restroom, a couple celebrating their anniversary with their friends came over to me, told me they loved my romper, got me a shot, and made sure I was ok because I guess it was obvious that I was naht having a good time with this guy. Thank you Forever 21 for one of my weird DC date stories. Glad I’m past all that.

Anywhooo… I’m kind of loving Forever 21 again now. True to form, they have all the most popular trends at price points that make sense for styles that may be long gone by next year. And here’s a fun fact: if you buy online, you can return via mail. Yup. Forever 21 does sneaky returns if you buy online. So go ahead and shop away from the comfort of your couch in your pjs.

So March was… in like… something and out like probably the same thing (a mess) because the freaking weather has taken us all on such an emotional roller coaster. But April showers bring May flowers and now I’m giggling to myself because next April, Kendall and I will be celebrating our wedding at The Mayflower and how perfect is that? April is a special time of year for my family. My mom’s birthday is April 9th, as is my parents’ anniversary (celebrating 29 years this year WHATUP!) and my Uncle Jay and Aunt Jeanie happened to pick the same date for their own wedding 6 years later! Lots of love, lots to celebrate in April!

It’s also usually the first month of the year to really feel like spring! As much as I love getting into the winter cozies, I’m over it. Bring on the sunshine. And in that vein, I bring you my April wish list.

the carolove april wish list

  1. I’m kind of digging this Cupshe Melodic Blues One-piece Swimsuit. Has anyone ordered from Cupshe before? Thoughts?
  2. Last year, Target had this amazing straw tote with pompoms that I really wanted… until I got to the store and it was big enough I could have put a couple toddlers or a weeks worth of clothes in it. The Rainbow Pom Pom Tote from t+j is a much better size AND I love the colors!
  3. I found the Women’s Wildfox More Glitter Manchester Tee last Friday when I was super sad that our CFO was retiring. “More glitter, less bitter” is the best sad day mantra.
  4. I’m still determined to try rainbow highlighter, and at under $10, I won’t mind this little purchase once Lent is over!
  5. This is one of the cutest collabs I’ve seen! If you can’t pick just one color, the Clinique Crayola(TM) Chubby Lip Crayon Box is just the thing for you!
  6. I love my nude studded heels, but they’ve been about run into the ground. Yay for
Betseyville Naveah Gladiator Sandals and their under $50 price point!
  7. Not going to lie, part of the appeal of the Shashi Caroline Necklace is the name. But I also obviously love the style!
  8. I keep going back to these Rachelle Tassel Chandeliers from Stella & Dot.
  9. Kendall + I kind of want to have a vintage picnic themed engagement photo shoot, but for a real picnic, the ban.do Watermelon Super Chill Cooler Bag is the cutest!
  10. Yes, I’m obsessed with going to Mission for margs with my girls. The Margaritas With My Senoritas Crewneck from Tees And Tank You seems appropriate.
  11. We’ve burned through almost all of the Christmas clearance candles I stockpiled, but it’s time for fresher scents anyway! Bring on the Mimosa Kiki&Me Tumbler Candle!
  12. Stripes. Always stripes. But it doesn’t hurt to have an unexpected detail like this Women’s J.crew Ruffle Sleeve Top.
  13. Candace and I never had jellies because my mom was smart and knew they were painful, sweaty, and not great for your feet. I got the adult version for a music festival a few years ago, and quickly learned that for myself. But the Kate Spade New York Fanley T-Strap Sandal seem like a great, slightly more grown up, option.
  14. Mint is a tricky color for me, but once I have a tan, here I come for this Pintucked Swing Blouse.

Originally posted on Little Bitty City One 3/24/16

I was born the day before St. Patrick’s Day, so I’ve combined the two holidays since I can remember. It started with green glittery sprinkled shamrock cookies for my birthday snack in grade school and evolved into (for the past couple of years) sharing a hat at The Madhatter with some close pals on the 17th. This year, I really did attempt to cancel my birthday, which is very unlike me, because I was feeling pretty overwhelmed. But I’m kind of surrounded by a ton of amazing people that wouldn’t let that happen. My parents, my friends- everyone I know has made this month special. I even got to see my favorite band and hang out with them for a bit after the show- that was a present to myself.

Parts of my look today were presents as well. The green dress is from my 21st birthday (edit: no it is not? I def got this dress for my 24th or 25th.) and has obviously become my St. Patrick’s Day dress. The jewelry set from Baublebar was a gift from two of my best friends and the tumbler was from my Little- one of my coworkers calls me kitten and I needed a new tumbler when the lid on my trusty giant mason jar broke. Perfect gift, perfect timing.

Anyway, it’s been a great March, and I’m feeling so lucky.
