November really kicks off the season of holiday visiting with Thanksgiving and friendsgivings and “let’s do something before the holidays” get together which are really just holiday get togethers incognito. I never like to arrive empty-handed, and while I’m certainly guilty of “let’s just bring a bottle of wine,” I want to do better. I love making people laugh, and for the right people, here are my picks to give a gift with a giggle.

I watch entirely too much Housewives. I’m working my way through the franchise and just finished every New York season on Hulu. These cocktail napkins were inspired by probably the best Dorinda moment of all history.

Candles make a home. I stand by this. The scent of champagne is pretty inoffensive as scents go, and this candle don’t lie!

If you do want to go the wine route, check out these instant download labels to sass up your bottles!

Butter my butt and call my a biscuit. This is something that is actually said quite often at Pride Rock. A butter knife would be adorable to bring to Thanksgiving with something homemade to spread butter on.

Another gift that would be cute to bring with something hot and yummy you make yourself-  a potholder with Nelly lyrics!

Olives are one of my favorite snacky foods. Tie an olive fork to a jar of olives for something for your hostess to put out pre-dinner.

Dish towels are great because they get used. Bonus points if you help your hostess with cleanup.

Hangry is one of my favorite words and a serving spoon is another great gift to accompany a homemade dish.

What’s your favorite kind of gift to give or receive?

Last week, I brought you some fun gear for the bride/ Feyoncè. This week, I want to talk about the girls who keep it all going- the bridesmaids. I have been a bridesmaid 4 times, a flower girl once, heavily involved with a 5th wedding, and a guest at… I don’t even want to try to count. I’ve seen a lot of really cute gift ideas for the ladies who have spent so much time, and honestly, money, to make their bride’s day the best it can be. The fun thing is that every wedding I’ve been to, the gifts have been different, so I have a lot of ideas for my own ‘maids. Let’s break it down:

1||2||3

I was my friend TJ’s date for his girl friend’s wedding a few years ago. The bride had actually custom designed the dresses. They were champagne and emerald, a combo that I never would have even thought of but it worked! Then she got all the girls a set of earrings that were the same emerald color in the dress, but different for each girl. I thought that was the cutest idea! When I was MOH, my bestie gave us all Kate Spade New York Sailor’s Knot Stud Earrings, mine were rose gold, the other girls got silver or gold. That was super meaningful to me because we were there to help her “tie the knot”. Another wedding, we were given earrings that were all the same that the bride asked us to wear for the wedding. My only suggestion is that if you are to give jewelry for the ladies to specifically wear that day, communicate that clearly. It’s OK to do that. It’s your day.

Getting ready for a wedding is part ritual, part chaos, part slumber party. I think it’s such a nice touch to give the gift of comfort for the ladies because it also takes a hella long time to get ready. I’m talking ALL DAY. I actually wear my robes from my brides, and I really wear my pj pants from my Raleigh wedding. There are several options here. Robes seem to be the tradition, and the three I have are all different. I have a waffle-y one that’s monogrammed that feels like a day at the spa. I curl up with it on weekends, especially in the winter. It’s monogrammed. I have a thinner cotton one that’s great for the summer- that bride got our robes custom made so they would have pockets. This was great because we were running around the Ritz Bal Harbor like chickens with our heads cut off. Then I have a silky, sexy thing with my initial on it. Again, more of a summer robe and made for some cute pictures. My last bride got us pj pants from Old Navy, had them monogrammed, and added an oversized t for easy removal after hair and makeup. I like either the idea of a pj set or coordinating button down shirts, myself.

It’s always nice to give/ get an unexpected surprise. The wedding I was involved with, but not in, the bride gave all her ‘maids a selfie stick! This made for some really adorable pictures at the wedding. The couple had also set up a DIY photo booth, and they went nicely with that. I’m also a fan of customized cups or glasses for sipping (read: not chugging) champs while getting ready. Other cute little items I’ve received include nail polish, scented candles, and flip flops. Think grown up goodie bag which brings me to…

You have to put all these gifts somewhere, right? Not saying you have to get your bridesmaids a monogrammed tote like my bestie MOH did, but it was definitely and really nice touch AND I used it for my other weddings to carry gear for the bride and the other bridesmaids. A cute gift bag is  another option- maybe in the colors of your wedding. The one thing I would steer away from here, and maybe with the other gifts as well, are pieces that actually say bridesmaid on them. I feel funny using the one tote I have like that, and chances are somewhere along the line your girls received something that does indicate that they are, in fact, part of your bridal party. Let the gifts you give them that day reflect a thank you for all the work they’ve done leading up to your big day- and that everyone’s almost done with all the hard parts!

Getting married isn’t just pricey for the happy couple! Obviously, they foot the majority of the bill for the festivities, but guests, and especially bridesmaids, can have a pretty seriously expense on their hands too. Even if you’re not in the strongest financial situation, it’s difficult to turn down the honor of being bridesmaid for one of your dearest friends, but it can be a real panic trying to get the requirements to fit your budget. There are three main expenses, the look, the gift, and the big day itself – here’s how to keep those within your budget.

The look

Many brides will contribute towards the cost of their bridesmaid’s dresses, hair, and makeup if there is a certain look they want to be achieved for the big day. For more laid-back weddings, these costs sometimes have to be picked up by the bridesmaid herself. The dress is by far the biggest cost, and depending on your budget you might want to consider going second-hand (let’s call it vintage) to help your money go further. As for hair and makeup, if the bride is happy for you to do your own, it could save you a whole lot of cash. Speak to her about her expectations for your style, and spend some time practicing with the equipment and makeup you have available to ensure you can get the look just right, without the extra cost.

The gift

Some brides and grooms insist that their wedding party do not bring gifts as their presence is more than enough, but others like a treat of two, and who can blame them? Wedding gifts aren’t cheap, though. There are some great tips for carefully budgeting a special event on the internet – why not split the cost of a larger gift with some friends to save money? Or spend a while on the lead-up to the wedding shopping around for their dream gift in the sale?

The big day

From the cost of accommodation to keeping your vodka and tonic topped up, the big day doesn’t come without its own costs. If the wedding location is far from home, you’re going to have to pay for somewhere to sleep for the night; it’s an unavoidable cost. Remember, there will be other people in your position – you could split the cost of the room between yourself and some other bridesmaids if you’re going without partners, which can significantly keep the costs down. As for the drinks, short of finding a kind man to keep your glass topped up, it’s a cost you might just have to bear. Drinking tap water occasionally throughout the night will help to keep you hydrated, stop things getting messy, and it will also help to slow your drinking down too, keeping the costs a bit lower.

This is one of your best buddy’s biggest days, so you don’t want to have to skimp on the big stuff – budgeting carefully and saving where you can is the key to having the best time, without having to worry about the finances.

We spend so much time thinking about what presents to buy our nearest and dearest, but when was the last time we bought something really special for ourselves. Whatever your reason, go for it.  We all need to spoil ourselves a little.

If you want to really want to push the boat out then buy yourself something that will last you a lifetime.  Diamonds are rumored to be a girls best friend, but unless you have one? You won’t know if this is a myth or not.  You don’t have to go super extravagant here, there are lots of items with this precious stone in that won’t shatter your credit card.  A small ring, a tiny pendant or a pair of earrings will be enough for you to appreciate the natural beauty of this stone.  You could even look at buying something second hand or some loose gems which you could have made into something later on.  Companies such as James Allen Review can offer you lots of advice when investing in a diamond.

Another brilliant purchase you can make yourself is a timepiece.  Having a good quality watch is something you can hold onto for a lifetime.  It is also something which can be engraved to remember the reason for buying it and could be passed down your family over the generations, so a future heirloom.  There are some traditional brands which hold their value and popularity, such as Rolex or Cartier however if you have a more modest budget there are some newer brands which are starting to make a name for themselves.  Seven Friday is an exciting contemporary watch maker or Bell&Ross who, whilst renowned in luxury watch circles, have a more affordable price tag.  If you can’t afford a watch, there are other ways of getting a little arm candy, like these ideas from Boho Betty

There is something incredible about buying a designer shoe.  From the smell to the feel and the look.  Christian Louboutin is a very popular brand due to the signature red sole which is unmistakable to any fashionista who happens to walk past you.  There are a variety of styles which he makes limited runs of and prices start from £350 then stretch all the way to £3000.  It may seem like an awful lot to spend on pair of shoes but you probably don’t think twice about spending this on ‘shoes’ for your car.  Plus Louboutins are made with such care they will last you a lifetime, or until you get to the age you can’t walk in heels.  It happens … apparently!

Don’t wait for someone else to spoil you rotten.  Even if it’s a weekend trip to Paris or a night in a spa, making a special effort to give yourself a treat will have a positive impact on your mental health.  It is also a great way of giving yourself a boost if things get tough or your self confidence takes a knock.  You can look at that special gift and remember, you earned that.

Now, get shopping!

Just because you are single at this time of the year, it doesn’t mean you have to be miserable when 14th of February rolls round. Here are some ways to ensure you don’t feel blue that you are single this Valentine’s Day.

Eat Pray Love

Watch some anti-romcom films

Of course, when Valentine’s Day is on its way, you will have to face a wealth of rom coms on the TV. And while some of them can be funny, it can also make you feel miserable there isn’t a special someone in your life. Therefore, it’s time to switch off those cringy films and go for a film which is all about independence. For example, you might want to watch How To Be Single which focuses on the fact you need time to be yourself. Or you might even want to watch Eat Pray Love with the amazing Julia Roberts which sees her leaving her husband and discovering the world. Go for a film which leaves you filled with confidence and happiness at the end.

Have a fun evening in with friends instead

Even if you don’t have a special someone to shower the love to this Valentine’s Day, you can still have a wonderful evening with your mates. After all, you probably will have a better time than a lot of couples out there! Arrange a fun activity that you can do from the comfort of your home. For example, you might want to opt for a fun pamper session where you can all get some relaxation in your life. Or you might even want to do something old-school like looking at horoscopes to see what’s going to happen in your future! Even some baking might be fun to take your mind off the day’s events. Make it a sleepover if you want to have a fabulous night with your beloved friends. And by the time the party has finished with your girls, you will be filled with love for your mates!

Buy yourself a gift to spread the love

It’s common to buy your loved one a gift for Valentine’s Day. Therefore, you might feel left out when you see the presents your friends got from their other half. But rather than feeling blue, you should buy yourself a present! After all, you are the best person to know exactly what you want. So get yourself something as a treat when it’s time for Valentine’s Day. It might be a new item of clothing or a piece of jewelry you want. And it will definitely leave you with a smile on your face once you have opened it!

And rather than trying to avoid the holiday, the best way to deal with being single on Valentine’s Day is to embrace it. After all, who cares if you are single at this time of the year. Go out to clubs with your mates which will be full of single guys who are looking for love. And go and have a meal with your friends at a restaurant full of couples. It’s much better than hiding at home until the day passes!
