When it comes to our style, confidence and overall look, hair is so important. We all know how rubbish a bad hair day makes us feel, and how a swishy new style fresh from the hairdresser can give us a spring in our step. Since most of us dye or chemically alter our hair in some way these days, caring for it can mean a little extra work. Colored hair is more prone to dryness and damage, so you need a good routine to keep it at its best. Here are some points to bear in mind if you have colored hair.

Get It Colored Professionally

Home box dyes can be great these days if you want one solid color. However if you’re thinking of doing something dramatic with your hair then it’s worth seeing a professional. Messing around with bleach for example is likely to end in tears, since it can be incredibly damaging- to the point that all your hair could quite literally snap off at the roots! Attempting things like highlights and cutting techniques aren’t likely to end well either. Sites like BeautyShed have more information and advice about this. It’s always best to visit someone who has the education and experience needed to do a good job. It’s not worth ruining your hair to save a bit of cash!

Coqui Coqui – Shampoo & Conditioner Set, 2 X 50ml – one size

Use The Right Shampoo and Conditioner

Are you guilty of grabbing the first shampoo and conditioner off the shelves that you see? Each product will be formulated for certain types of hair. If yours has been chemically altered it’s best to choose one for colored, dry or damaged hair. These will be more hydrating so will nourish and protect the strands. Steer clear of volumizing products since these will be very lightweight and in some cases strip the hair too making it even drier.

Oribe Women’s Gold Lust Nourishing Hair Oil

Invest in Oils and Masks

Along with a good shampoo and conditioner that’s formulated for your hair type, it’s also worth investing in pampering hair oils and deep conditioning masks. A mask applied once or twice a week will give your hair a huge boost of hydration, if it’s feeling a little dry it can perk it back up and give you a healthy and glossy finish. A light oil applied to the mid-lengths and ends of the hair will protect and nourish between washes, and add a gorgeous shine to the hair. You might have to experiment with different oils to find one which is right for your hair. It should absorb nicely without looking greasy or leave it feeling weighed down.

Tangle Teezer Original Detangling Hair Brush

Brush Carefully

Since colored hair is more prone to dryness and damage, more breakage is likely to occur. Therefore handling it as gently as possible is a must. Use gentle brushing techniques, starting at the ends to carefully untangle any knots. Choosing a brush like a Tangle Teezer will be much kinder to the hair and is less likely to tug and rip out knots and cause further damage.
