Back when I was shooting with Nicole, I lost my SD card with a shoot on it that then never made it to the blog. Somehow, it resurfaced when Kendall and I moved. I hadn’t given it a lot of thought until I lost ANOTHER SD card (those tiny little suckers!), ordered a new one with a mini, then Kendall needed the mini for our GoPro. So I stuck in the SD card I found, complete with my Taylor Swift concert outfit from two summers ago.

So much has changed in the past 2 years- I moved out of my first apartment and into a new one with a boy. I got engaged. My blog has changed and grown immensely. I was witness to some of my best and oldest friends getting married. I’ve made amazing new friends, fallen out of touch with others, acquired more self-confidence than I’ve ever known, and finally feel as settled as I’m going to be as a millennial in kind of a crazy time.

But so many things have also naht changed. I still get panic attacks, but I know how to deal with them and surround myself with people who help me through them, whether they know it or not. I refuse to give up my quirky and somewhat juvenile style, I’ll rock the hell out of my sneaker wedges, and I’m still obsessed with weddings. I still don’t love my job, but I’m going to keep working my ass off and giving it my all (and interviewing elsewhere when something interesting comes up).

Think back over your last two years- what has changed for you? What hasn’t? I’d love to know in the comments!

I am downright abusive to my sunglasses. I step on them, throw them into multiple purses, scratch them up as soon as I get them, etc. BUT at least I’m self-aware enough to know that it would be total, utter nonsense to drop big money on something that will last a year at best (if I don’t lose them first).

I have two requirements for sunglasses- that they be under $25 for the above reasons and that they have 100% UV protection. I may like ’em cheap, but I very much enjoy my green eyes and I want to keep them safe. Fun fact: if you have light eyes, they actually require more sun protection. Now, the source for that is my friend Patrick so I’m not entirely sure how accurate that is or how it works, but any reason to protect yourself seems valid.

So keep those peepers safe from the sun this summer without breaking the bank. All my picks in these post are under $25 and reflect my current fave trends in the glasses world! (I also did make sure that these all offer UV protection!)

We overheard a conversation recently about traveling alone where both of them were against the idea of it. But you never really travel alone – not really- because the world is jam-packed full of people, friends you haven’t made yet, adventure buddies that you have yet to laugh with.

Don’t get us wrong, running off with your childhood sweetheart, vacationing with your family, a weekend away with your BFFs; it’s all amazing. But there is an ocean of stars out there, and each star represents a reason to go it alone.

Single, loved-up, outgoing, introverted, lost, happy, newly-wed, bereaved; it doesn’t matter, there are so many reasons that make traveling solo a must-have experience. And here are the best of the bunch:

You Get Around

The one thing a group of travelers doesn’t have is the privilege of spontaneity. The more of you there are, the harder it becomes to move around. Booking a trip becomes harder. Planning a tripper becomes needed. Flights, boats, buses, hitchhiking, it all becomes more challenging when you are in a group. But not when you’re riding solo. You pick a time and place and ba-bye everything else.

It’s Your Bucket List

When you try to please everyone you rarely please anyone. Yes, we know life is all about sacrifice and compromise, but it doesn’t have to be, not when you are traveling by yourself. If there is somewhere you want to go then go. You can work through your bucket list in the order you want to do it. Want to see Canada, then Petra, followed by the Maldives and then get to Aus by working your way there on a boat because, well, because you can, then do it. You can entertain your dreams and no one can stop you.

Make The Heart Grow Stronger

We’re not saying you should spend all of your weekends and all your allocated holiday time going it alone, just every so often. Trust us, it will be an incredible thing for you and those you are leaving behind, whether family, friends, loved ones or whatever. Your heart grows stronger, your trust increases, your independence gets that kick it needs. You could use it to your advantage too. How? Well, imagine you find paradise somewhere. That place you love. That place you need to share with that special someone. Why not take them there. Send a personal invite. Get yourself a postcard maker and use an image of your new paradise on the cover, an address and a date and have them meet you there, or book a holiday to come back and show them. What’s more romantic or special than that.

Make New Friends

Half hour friendships or lifelong bonds, it doesn’t matter; meeting new people is one of the greatest things any of us can do, and traveling alone almost forces our hand. It’s incredible how a simple hello can lead to a thousand possibilities, and it is incredible how your perspective changes when you take that experience home. All too often we tell ourselves we are too busy to meet new people, but that shouldn’t be the case. So travel alone and strike up conversations with random people; locals, the person sat next to you on the bus, people in your hostel, that backpacker that’s by themselves. Everyone has a story and it those stories you hear while traveling that tends to be the best.

I think the worst part of seasonal transitions (besides the allergies) is trying to figure out how the heck to dress. When I put this outfit on last week, it wasn’t because it was perfect planned. It was a happy accident after standing in front of my closet in silence for approximately 20 hours and trying on several million combinations or skirts and tops and tights and boots. That may be an exaggeration- but this was at least the third outfit that I attempted. I was pretty happy with it.

The coat actually made its debut last year, but I upgraded the buttons to a tortie/ gold combo and it just feels way more lush. If there has been an upside to this drawn-out winter, it’s that I’m actually getting to wear the coats that I couldn’t when, you know, it was 75 degrees on Christmas.

Happy last day of January! With February coming in fast, all I’ve been thinking about is Valentine’s Day, so I apologize if you’re not into it because I have at least a few more Valentine’s Day related posts coming your way.

I came across this adorable sweater last year around Valentine’s Day, but I wear it year round as coze clothes or over my yoga tanks. I wanted to try dressing it up for work, and since I’ve been playing around with pattern-mixing, the gingham in the same red + white seemed like just the thing. There was actually snow on the ground in DC yesterday morning, then it got progressively colder as the day wore on- reminding me just how wonderful the whole button-down-under-a-sweater layering thang could be. And don’t worry ma (or Kendall), I’m not barelegged, I just found the most amazing nude pantyhose at Macy’s this year. They’ve held up better than most of my sheer tights and I still get to show off my legs without freezing. Win/ win.

I am pretty obsessed with this poppin’ red though. This time of year, when it’s so gloomy and chilly, it’s nice to put on something bright and top it off with a smile.
