A girl and her pearls: a love story.

I mean, seriously, can you think of a more timeless accessories that can come in all shapes and sizes? I have a nice little collection: a black pearl necklace with matching earrings, my Chunky Pearl Necklace, a few long strands in a rainbow of colors, a couple classic white chokers, and The Sari c/o Pearl & Clasp.

That is to say I’m a huge fan of pearls and I have discovered a new way to rock them: on my sweaters. Now, I do think that if you’re rocking an embellished top, a necklace is not needed, so a pearl sweater may be the perfect way to jazz of  up a pair of jeans effortlessly for a casual brunch or easy date night look now that (I think it’s safe to say) that fall is really here. It’s not fussy, but still creates a look that’s more thank just jeans and a sweater. If this is a look you want to try guilt-free, great! because Shein has them at treat yo’self prices. I’m partial to the grey sweater with the rainbow sprinkle of pearls myself, but what do you think or wearing your jewelry on your clothes rather than around your neck?the carolove pearl sweaters

Remember last year when Bubbles & Bloggers took a field trip to my old neck of the woods to get some of that country fall goodness you can’t get in the city? Well, when we were at Rocklands, I picked up some farm fresh pork for Kendall and now we’re spoiled and the stuff from the grocery store just doesn’t cut it. Since this past weekend was so gorgeous, we decided to take a little field trip of our own.

Content warning: if you’re a vegetarian who has a problem with my purchasing farm-fresh meat, you might want to stop reading. Nothing graphic, I promise, but I do love eating meat, and I’m a huge fan of buying local.

I didn’t realize this because last fall we made other stops, but Rocklands Farm is only about 40 minutes outside of DC, with a gorgeous drive to get there. There’s plenty of parking, and the farm isn’t so massive that you feel overwhelmed- everything for visitors is pretty much contained. Because it was such a beautiful day, there were a ton of families enjoying the sunshine, wine, and nibbles from the market- lots of littles running around.

Since we were going to my parents’ for dinner after, I picked up a bottle of their Sandstone to take my dad, and some fresh flowers for my mom. You can check out all of their wines here.

Kendall had never been to Rocklands before so we carefully took our time selecting the cuts of pork to take home. While they don’t deliver, you can order your meats/ poultry online and select a designated drop-off spot to pick up your product. Another option is to sign up for the Rocklands Meat CSA, which is a club for pasture-raised, grass-fed & finished, nutrient-dense and humanely-raised meats. The meat CSA share includes a monthly selection of a diverse variety of cuts, flash-frozen & vacuum sealed, of beef, pork, lamb and chicken, varying month to month.  We considered it, but it’s so nice to get out of the city occasionally and hand-select whatever it is you want that I don’t know if we’ll end up doing that.

I clearly decided to go all country girl for mu outfit. I may be mostly city-fied, but I do love my fresh air and wide open spaces from time to time.

Our best friends are there for us when we need them the most. They’re there for the good times and the bad times. Even if they’re not with you all the time, you know you can always rely on them. Whether you want to say thank you for some help they’ve given you or just to show that you care – a special gift and unexpected gift makes a lovely surprise. Here are some great picks for thoughtful gifts to give to your best friend.

Day at the Spa soy candle

A spa day

Between busy work and family lives, it can be difficult for you to spend quality time with your best friend. Buying you both a gift certificate to a spa offers an excellent opportunity for you to relax and take some time to get away from it all. A friend who’s been going through a tough time can benefit from a de-stress and a spa day is a gift that will always be appreciated. If the spa isn’t her thing, do some research on best friend dates to find an activity you’ll both enjoy. You might even find a new hobby you can take up together!

Personalized Name Jewelry

A name necklace

Personalized jewelry is a thoughtful gift that shows that you really care for the recipient. If your friend is a fashionista, she’ll appreciate a Sex and the City-style ‘Carrie’ necklace – a simple but stylish piece that goes with everything. For beautiful and chic personalized name necklaces – Soufeel is a great retailer that offers them in different styles and colors. Get one for yourself too for a cute reminder of the special friendship you both share.

Anti-Ageing Facial Serum

Some luxury skincare

It’s important that we look after our skin, and if you’ve been raving about a new skincare product recently – why not give one as a gift to a friend? Being able to say, ‘I thought you might like this,” shows that you think about your friend and that you know about her likes and dislikes. There are some amazing skincare products available at the moment, including skincare made from natural ingredients that make an excellent gift that she’ll love to keep on her dresser.

Blonde Brunette Frame

A framed photograph

This might be considered a bit of a retro gift, but how many of us take the time to print photographs anymore? With phones and Facebook to share photos on there’s a very real possibility that you don’t have any photos up in your home of the two of you together. Pick a stylish frame or fill an album with some of your favorite memories for a gesture she’ll really appreciate.

Treating your best friend is a wonderful way to lift her spirits or show her how much she means to you. If you struggle to think of ideas, look back at some of your favorite memories and let the inspiration hit you – an inside joke might be all that’s needed to spark an idea. Sometimes it’s the smaller gifts that we appreciate the most, and in the end – it’s always the thought that counts.

Last weekend, Bubbles & Bloggers had our July meetup- a shopping tour with Shop The City (more on that in a later post) that ended with the last Whistle & Wild popup before founder Amanda scoots down to Texas in a move that has been a long time coming. While I’m sad to see my friend go, I am SO excited for her journey. You may remember this, but Sarah and I modeled her clothes to help launch Whistle & Wild back late last summer, and the following of Amanda’s online boutique has grown exponentially and nation-wide. There is no question that Amanda is one bad boss and she’ll do great things!

This popup had a little somethin’somethin’ extra though! Marisa was there to help style summer Whistle & Wild pieces for fall. I was so inspired that I wanted to share with my readers some of the great ideas Marisa gave to help transition their own wardrobes. The best part is that I found the pieces I was missing at the #NSale and can share those with you too! These are just a couple of pieces we looked at to move from summer into fall. Make sure you check out everything Whistle & Wild has to offer!

Although the booties that Marisa showed us with this outfit had a little more of a heel, I love love love the perforated look on this Tom’s booties. Put those toes away once the temps drop, ad some sleeves to the slip dress with soft cotton underneath, and add burgundy to the blush to make a great fall outfit!

“Gingham is summer through and through.” This is a gingham rule that I’ve already talked about breaking myself. While Marisa said that leather is still a bit much for early fall, olive utility/ military style jackets are universally flattering. Add a riding boot with a low heel for just a little bit of height. I actually got these exact boots for myself after hearing how long my legs looked with just a bit of heel. At the risk of looking too matchy matchy, I kind of love it with the blue bag too! And I think the boots make it a day or night outfit.

How do you transition your summer clothes to fall?

If you’re friends with me or follow me on any of my social media, you may have gotten an invite to my Stella & Dot online style session. If not, feel free to invite yourself now! I’m hosting it along with my friend and Stella & Dot stylist, Erica. There’s nothing you have to do and nowhere you need to go- just style inspiration and some of the cutest accessories you’ve ever seen! I’m a huge Stella & Dot fan and have been for years. My of my favorite pieces are from there!

I’ve actually considered becoming a stylist myself and talked about the perks of becoming a Stella & Dot stylist a while back on my blog. While I still don’t feel like I have the time to devote to being a great stylist, I can borrow Erica and pretend I’m a stylist during my virtual trunk show. And that doesn’t mean I don’t like to look for myself.

I want to share some of my all-time favorite pieces to get you in the mood to shop my Stella & Dot online style session! I have the pieces in the top row on heavy rotation. The bottom row is my wish list!
