Last Wednesday, Bubbles & Bloggers had one of our coolest meetups yet. We headed down to Ivy City to Republic Restoratives to enjoy our custom Fresh In The District cocktails, learn about how Fresh Wave works, snack on some delicious treats from Homeshed Kitchens, and leave with the cutest Scout gift bags. While I’d certainly heard of Scout, I didn’t know much about the other brands an d it’s always fun discovering new places and products with my favorite ladies.

Republic Restoratives is woman-founded, “community funded and community driven,” making it the perfect place for a gathering of community minded women to get together. The space itself is really awesome- Dani and I were brainstorming future events while we were still there. Our Fresh In The District was delicious and made just for us! I’m not sure if they’re keeping it around as a permanent item on their menu, but I would recommend if you can get down there to try it!

Fresh Wave is a new-to-me company, but many of the ladies at the event had heard of them and love their products. I’m huge on candles, fragrance, and freshness in my home, but the difference between some of the scents that I use and Fresh Wave is that their products are all-natural. No harsh chemicals. No heavy perfumes. No toxic ingredients. While it was brought up that this is great for pets and kids, let’s be real- natural is better for everyone! I’m currently using the odor removing gel that came in my gift bag and I love the scent!

Thank you to Republic Restoratives, Fresh Wave, Homeshed Kitchens, and Scout for a wonderful night out, and of course to Dani for planning!

We like to have themes for our meetups which makes for awesome pictures in semi-coordinating outfits, and our theme was green. Weirdly enough, I don’t actually own a whole lot of green, so I went for greenery instead with my tropical dress from Old Navy. I love love love the pattern on the dress but the dang thing shrank in the wash, making it a cute tunic.

When you’re into fashion, summer really is the perfect time to have fun with your look. You don’t have to worry about wrapping up in layers to keep warm and dry, so no throwing on a big coat and boots with every outfit you put together. Instead, you have far more flexibility/ Plus Summer clothing tends to be more colorful and bold than anything you can find over the autumn and winter, so fantastic for really making a statement. There are certain accessories and trends that have trickled down from the runway and into our favorite stores, if you want to get on board here are a few things to try this summer!

Frasier Sterling Party Like It’s 1999 Silver Choker Necklace

Chokers

Chokers have been on trend for some time now, and aren’t set to go anywhere just yet. While big statement jewelry chokers are popular (and can look fantastic on a night out) when it’s warm in the daytime you could go with something lighter and more comfortable. Even bootlace style tie chokers can bring something to an outfit but won’t feel like it’s weighing you down. Other jewelry trends include asymmetrical earrings– something to try if you’re feeling really brave! And bold pendant necklaces. These are a great way to perk up any plain looking summer outfit.

Eye Catching Belts

Designers such as Alexander McQueen and Balenciaga accessorized their outfits on the runway with old, eye-catching belts- so expect to see similar kinds of styles hitting the stores this summer. Again it’s another easy way to perk up a simple outfit. Denim shorts, a tank top and sandals make a simple summer outfit- a statement belt could really bring it to life. If you keep everything else quite simple and go for one bold piece it brings personality without being overkill.

Oversized Sunglasses

Oversized sunnies continue to stay on trend in 2017- great news since they’re a flattering and easy to wear style giving you instant glamor. Plus larger sunglasses protect the eye area better meaning fewer UV rays to damage the delicate skin around the eyes. Be sure to try on a wide selection of sunglasses to find a pair that really suits your face size and shape. Aviators are a classic and are a style you can wear time and time again if you want something that makes less of a statement.

Knee High Athletic Socks

Knee high socks look super cute, the perfect addition to a pair of shorts. They’re ideal if you’re not too keen on your legs since they covered them up- and they also protect them too if you’re going on hikes or playing sports (or if it gets a bit chillier one day). All in all, they are a fun way to accessorize an outfit and can be practical in some cases too. Some designers have even showcased them with wedges and sandals, but if you’re not quite on board with this trend, you can play it safer with a pair of sneakers.

What trends and accessories are you most excited to try out this summer?

We’re all familiar with that one line from Devil Wears Prada:

Yes- florals are all over for spring and yes this isn’t exactly new news, but I can’t help but love a good flower print this time of year. It doesn’t even have to be a print, tbh. Anything flowery to celebrate that small amount of time we get between too cold and too hot is a good thing.

Besides that, it’s be relatively dreary out. April showers are supposed to bring May flowers… but showers it is. And has been for what seems like an eternity. Even this past weekend, DC was treated to mostly showers and cool weather, keeping this salty biotch out of the pool and shopping instead. I guess that’s a sign that it’s time for me to start making my own sunshine, or flowers as the case may be.

A couple weeks ago, I sent a text to some of my best girls to find out if anyone wanted to shoot. It’s been harder for me to get blog pics since Alex, the girl who used to take my pics, left my firm. Sarah told me she had plans but I’d be welcome to come along and she would snap for me while we were there. I had a totally free afternoon and the plans… oh ma goodness!

Pints & Puppies

Literally. I spent the day in the sun with one of my closest friends, day drinking and petting dogs and looking at dogs and contemplating kidnapping some dogs. A portion of the proceeds went toward local charities supporting dog rescue. Can’t get any better than that. I wasn’t even thinking about it at the time but I was rocking my Turquoise & Yellow Sporty Chic Hippy – Hand-Beaded Necklace c/o Dirty Hippy Swag and they donate a portion of their proceeds to help animals too! So it was a day celebrating our furry friends.

In that vein, I have a little call to action for you guys. I have been following Hannah Shaw aka Kitten Lady on Instagram for quite a while now, but one of her newest tiny but mighty rescues has totally broken my heart. Little Chloe has a damaged spine due to abuse and no use of her back legs, but Hannah has not given up on her. It’s likely a long, expensive road ahead for this little one, who through no fault of her own is in a very rough spot. If you can, I am encouraging you to donate to help save not only Chloe but the other little lives under Hannah’s care. I myself am a new monthly donator- think about it like this- 2 trips to Starbs or help save a little life. It took me less than 5 minutes to sign up.

Choosing an outfit is always a tough decision that takes a lot of time. But, choosing a summer outfit is even harder as there are so many different things you can wear! Today, I’ve got six ideas that you can use to help your summer outfits stand out from the crowd:

Custom Personalized Sun hat

Put On A Summer Hat

Back when we were little, a summer hat was something your mom made you wear to keep you safe from the sun. Nowadays, they’re very trendy and can give your outfit a serious boost. As mentioned in this previous article thecarolove.com/simple-ways-to-up-your-style-game/, you need to get some accessories if you want to up your style game. A hat is the perfect place to start, and there are so many different varieties that are gorgeous and will liven up your summer style.

Decorated Pink Heart sunglasses

Rock Those Sunglasses

Sunglasses are a staple in any summer outfit. They’re a fantastic accessory and can take your outfit from an 8 to a 10 real quick. There are, of course, plenty of  styles out there, but which one is great for summer? For me, some big aviator shades are perfect if you want to stand out in style and get loads of heads turning.

Long Rainbow Tassel Earrings

Get colorful

Wearing bright and vibrant colors is always a great way to stand out, and it fits in with summer fashion trends too. As you can see on sites like paisleygraceboutique.com, there are loads of colorful and floral tops that are in fashion right now and would be good for summer. The great thing is, it doesn’t matter what type of tops you like wearing, you’ll always find a colorful variation that will help you stand out.

Lilly Pulitzer Lindamarie Silk Caftan

Wear A Dress

The great thing about summer is that it makes certain outfits far more appropriate and acceptable than they would be in other months. For example, go out for lunch in a dress during the winter, and people look at you funny. But, don a nice colorful dress in the summer, and you’ll stand out for all the right reasons. Don’t be afraid to show off your legs either, flaunt the gifts you’ve got, it’s summer baby!

CACTUS NECKLACE

Get Something Shiny Around Your Neck

I’m a big fan of necklaces and think they make the perfect summer accessory. Especially if you wear something shiny as it will glisten and sparkle in the sunlight. A subtle diamond necklace is perfect, you really don’t need to go overboard here. Sometimes, less is more!

Katy Perry Geli Novelty Beach Sandals

Slay In Sandals

Throughout the year we’re pretty much confined to wearing standard shoes or trainers whenever we want to go anywhere. However, if you want to give your outfit a boost this summer, why not wear some sandals? They’re great for adding something extra to your look and making the whole get-up feel more summery and sweet.

Use these ideas and apply them to different outfits so that you stand out in style this summer. You can combine every idea to create the perfect summer outfit, or just pick a couple and use them to add something extra to your existing outfit.
