Tag Archives: pajamas

I don’t know what it says about me that one of my sorority sisters said I inspired her to wear cute pajamas. You know I love when my friends ask me for styling help, and Erin wanted pajama sets under $50. Girl you know I gotchoo.

I’m personally a huge fan of pajamas. My freshman year of college, the girls in my hall, every Sunday, would have a pajama brunch. It was really just going to the dining hall in coze clothes. Honestly, it started out as laziness then became one of those silly traditions of friendship.

Last year, Kendall got me LLAMA JAMAS from Old Navy which are my fave, (this year’s version here for $5!!) and my dad got me a flannel set when I was in college with Andy Warhol-ish puppers all over it. Those are my special Christmas pajamas.

I think we underestimate the power of pajamas. Pajamas are almost a signal that ok, it’s time to be cozy and relax. And putting on a set it like putting on an outfit- but for bed.  I’m all about ritual and I think getting ready for bed is just as important as getting ready for the day- cup of tea, something cute and cozy, and sign to yourself that you worked hard today and it’s time for rest.

Last week, I brought you some fun gear for the bride/ Feyoncè. This week, I want to talk about the girls who keep it all going- the bridesmaids. I have been a bridesmaid 4 times, a flower girl once, heavily involved with a 5th wedding, and a guest at… I don’t even want to try to count. I’ve seen a lot of really cute gift ideas for the ladies who have spent so much time, and honestly, money, to make their bride’s day the best it can be. The fun thing is that every wedding I’ve been to, the gifts have been different, so I have a lot of ideas for my own ‘maids. Let’s break it down:

I was my friend TJ’s date for his girl friend’s wedding a few years ago. The bride had actually custom designed the dresses. They were champagne and emerald, a combo that I never would have even thought of but it worked! Then she got all the girls a set of earrings that were the same emerald color in the dress, but different for each girl. I thought that was the cutest idea! When I was MOH, my bestie gave us all Kate Spade New York Sailor’s Knot Stud Earrings, mine were rose gold, the other girls got silver or gold. That was super meaningful to me because we were there to help her “tie the knot”. Another wedding, we were given earrings that were all the same that the bride asked us to wear for the wedding. My only suggestion is that if you are to give jewelry for the ladies to specifically wear that day, communicate that clearly. It’s OK to do that. It’s your day.

Getting ready for a wedding is part ritual, part chaos, part slumber party. I think it’s such a nice touch to give the gift of comfort for the ladies because it also takes a hella long time to get ready. I’m talking ALL DAY. I actually wear my robes from my brides, and I really wear my pj pants from my Raleigh wedding. There are several options here. Robes seem to be the tradition, and the three I have are all different. I have a waffle-y one that’s monogrammed that feels like a day at the spa. I curl up with it on weekends, especially in the winter. It’s monogrammed. I have a thinner cotton one that’s great for the summer- that bride got our robes custom made so they would have pockets. This was great because we were running around the Ritz Bal Harbor like chickens with our heads cut off. Then I have a silky, sexy thing with my initial on it. Again, more of a summer robe and made for some cute pictures. My last bride got us pj pants from Old Navy, had them monogrammed, and added an oversized t for easy removal after hair and makeup. I like either the idea of a pj set or coordinating button down shirts, myself.

It’s always nice to give/ get an unexpected surprise. The wedding I was involved with, but not in, the bride gave all her ‘maids a selfie stick! This made for some really adorable pictures at the wedding. The couple had also set up a DIY photo booth, and they went nicely with that. I’m also a fan of customized cups or glasses for sipping (read: not chugging) champs while getting ready. Other cute little items I’ve received include nail polish, scented candles, and flip flops. Think grown up goodie bag which brings me to…

You have to put all these gifts somewhere, right? Not saying you have to get your bridesmaids a monogrammed tote like my bestie MOH did, but it was definitely and really nice touch AND I used it for my other weddings to carry gear for the bride and the other bridesmaids. A cute gift bag is  another option- maybe in the colors of your wedding. The one thing I would steer away from here, and maybe with the other gifts as well, are pieces that actually say bridesmaid on them. I feel funny using the one tote I have like that, and chances are somewhere along the line your girls received something that does indicate that they are, in fact, part of your bridal party. Let the gifts you give them that day reflect a thank you for all the work they’ve done leading up to your big day- and that everyone’s almost done with all the hard parts!

During the winter, there’s often nothing that you want more than to be cozy. It’s not always an easy feeling to achieve, especially when it’s cold out. But, it is possible to transform your home into a comfortable and comforting paradise. You might need to invest a little bit of money and think outside of the box, but you can change the way your home looks and feels in very little time.

It might help to talk to friends and see what they recommend, or even pick up your favorite interiors magazine for their top tips, but you if you want an instant fix, there are seven main areas that help you can achieve a cozy home vibe before winter’s out.

Set The Ambiance

First up, you’re going to want to set the mood. Whether you choose to do it in one set room, or you cozy up to the whole house, you can make an instant difference by manipulating the atmosphere. When you’re looking to achieve a cozier home, you’re going to want to create a welcoming vibe – not only for yourself to enjoy, but your guests too. Lighting is an incredible aid in setting the right atmosphere, but music can help too. Ensure that your lighting is low and warm, and keep your music calm and relaxing.

Light A Fire

One of the easiest ways to create an immediate cozy effect is to light a fire. You may not have an open fire or a wood burner in your home, but it is likely that you have some working fire in your fireplace, even if it’s electric (and if not, it’s time to get one installed). So, crank it up and let the warming heat and roaring flames relax you and let your mind and body unwind.

Texture Up

Right next to atmosphere and warmth on the cozy scale is texture. If your decor is very minimal, with clean lines and straight edges, you might feel a little cool – even when the heating is on. So, you need to head out to your favorite home store and start shopping for the perfect soft furnishings to cozy up your home with. Have the perfect image of a cozy home in your head to guide you. Think thick wools, fluffy faux furs, decadent velvets and fun fleeces.

Scent The Space

Then, as your rooms are coming together, you’re going to want to add in the perfected finishing touches. You might have the ambience just right, thanks to your lighting and music, but there is another sense that we can cover off to keep your home as cozy as possible – smell. So far, your home looks, sounds and feels just right, but it can smell it too. Pick up some scented candles or home fragrances that put you in a relaxed mood and will set your mind at ease.

Run A Bath

Now that you’re home is pretty much finished, you’re going to want to get yourself ready to enjoy it. You could just lay on your couch and rest, but, there are a few more steps left to ensure your cozy experience is the best that it can be. By having a bath, you’re not only going to make your skin glow (which will make you feel incredible), but you can use bath oils that will relax you ready for the cozy night ahead.

Dress Up

After your bath, you’re going to want to get dressed for the occasion. Just like you’d get all dolled up for a night out, you’re going to need to get all dolled down for a night in! When you’re trying to relax and feel as cozy as possible, you need to be wearing the right thing. Invest in quality nightwear and lounge-wear products, like those by Vanilla underwear, that are not only comfortable but easy to cuddle up in too.

Snuggle Up

When you look and feel the part, it’s time to enjoy your surroundings – you’ve haven’t worked this hard to create your cozy corner of the world and not do it right. When you want to be comfortable and calm, some of the best ways to enjoy the space are to have a movie night or even a little date night. Now that you’re feeling soothed and stress-free, and you’re in you comfy casuals, you can pick the perfect movie, make your favorite food and lay back on the couch to enjoy it all. As long as the mood is right and you’re ready to unwind, your cozy paradise will do the rest.
