I’m a huge fan of saving money on clothes, shoes, and accessories. My running shoes and my Uggs are childrens’ sizes because it’s about half the price. After working retail, I never bought anything full price because I know there is always a sale coming. This also means that I don’t have to shop every sale because there will be another one next week LOOKING AT YOU, ESPECIALLY, LOFT! If there’s a trend I want to try, I’ll Amazon Prime it. One of my favorite dresses this summer was $17 with free shipping and I have no shame in that. Most of my dresses for work are Old Navy t-shirt dresses that hold up forever and was like a dream. And I will brag about the deal I found because let’s be real most of my friends are in their 20s and we all have rent to pay and Ubers to take and overpriced coffee to grab on our way into work. I love sharing a good deal with my girls! It’s not to say I don’t love quality things. Kate Spade is a personal favorite and that ish does not run cheap. Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger dresses fit me really well, but their outlet selections, for me, are even better than most department stores. My best work bags are structured, real leather, and top brands. Up until last year, I only wore real leather boots, but vegan leather has come a long way since the pleather of the 90s.

This is all to say that there is no shame in finding a deal if there’s something you love but you can’t quite spring for the full-priced fandango. I read a fantastic blog post in defense of the dupe that basically breaks it down like this: there is a difference between a dupe and a fake. A fake is saying that the product is the designer. A dupe mimics a design. So where a fake will have an Hermès sticker that might fall off one day when it’s tired of pretending to be the real thing, the Jane bag here is just a quality leather bag in a style that we recognize.

When I was younger and had less of an appreciation for copyright, trademark, and creative property, I was all about fakes. I had a great fake Chanel wallet that I got in the Bahamas for like $10. I have a few Louis logo bags from the beach that are of questionable origin. (I can’t part with them because they’re super colorful and fun!) While I stay away from straight knockoffs now because I think they look cheap, I’ve come to appreciate the well-done dupe if there’s a style I like but can’t afford. What surprised me is that dupes are actually good for fashion economy. I found an NPR article highlighting this, but I am definitely going to get my paws on The Knockoff Economy: How Imitation Sparks Innovation.

Below are just some examples- what’s your opinion on the fake vs. dupe argument?

Hermès Matte Alligator Birkin 35||The Essential Jane Bag With Scarf Croc Leather Green||Valentino Garavani Rockstud pumps||VASHOP Women’s Gladiator Rivets Buckle Studded Sandals T-strap Kitten Dress Sandals||Céline Nano Luggage Tote||Vanessa Medium Tote In Smooth Leather Black And White||Princetown leather slipper||Black Faux Leather Rose Embroidered Slip-on Shoes||Chanel Quilted Medium Old Boy Flap Bag||Ingrid Quilted Medium Leather Bag Black

I didn’t even realize that we’d hit September until late Friday night, but isn’t it kind of cool how as soon as September hit, so did some fall weather? I’m not going to be fooled- I know we’ll probably have a few more summery days before fall actually hits later this month, but it’s o much fun to start thinkin’ boots and sweaters and all. pumpkin. everything.

September is going to be a super fun month. Kendall and I are road-tripping down to Charleston, NC for a wedding and stopping to see family in Myrtle Beach on the way down and back. Then the following week, I’m going on my annual girls trip to Chowderfest on Long Beach Island, NJ. I just want to buy Tiffany and I all matching outfits and wear our boots and tromp around eating seafood for a weekend. It’s going to be great!

What do you have planned for September?

I’m no stranger to animal print, and I think I want to add a leopard clutch + leopard booties to my arsenal of accessories. Actually, lets throw in a leopard puffer vest too! Not to wear together. I’m not that crazy.

Homegirl was literally just gluing her makeup brushes back together this weekend. Perhaps I need a new set that matches my cute pink, black, and white bathroom?

I keep saying I want another pair of loafers since I have just about worn through my gold Coach pair and I’m considering getting a pink pair just because pink isn’t a traditionally fall color BUT WHY CAN’T IT BE?

This is a purse shaped like a PSL. That is all.

Speaking of PSL- my future Sissy in law and I are getting matching basic fall extravaganza sweatshirts.

I’m also really, really wanting a monogram sherpa situation. How cozy, amiright?

I haven’t found a pair of nude heeled boots that fit my foot right, so I might try the Via Spiga Beckett Tall Boot.

My first blog post would include a bottomless mimosa brunch.

Did you know in Portland, Oregon, they simply brunch with really awesome, organic everything food? I was shocked to hear that my co-worker, the birthday boy, had never heard of bottomless brunch until he moved here, and I was delighted that he wanted bottomless mimosas included in his birthday weekend.

Brunch is not only just an excuse to day drink, but also an excuse to day drink while dressing up for breakfast food. This combines at least three of my favorite things. It wasn’t unbearably cold in The District yesterday, so I could have a little bit more fun with my outfit.

With it being winter, I’m into layers. On top I wore a plain black long sleeve under a slouchy sweater from Loft (my staple store). The skirt is actually a child-sized Ralph Lauren (my staple brand). Boots are Etienne Aigner from Piperlime. I got them last year but it seems like the two-tone trend has hit BIG time in the city this year. I’ve become quite a fan of boot socks as well- I have about five different colors from Target. Threw on two long strands of mama’s pearls (a huge perk of living at home still is shopping in her closet) and moved all my essentials into my adorable new Kate Spade bag (guys- THERE ARE SPADES ON IT!) and I was ready to go.

NoPa is nestled in Chinatown a couple blocks from the Verizon center and right near the Spy Museum. I was the first one to get there and we had a private room, which was really nice as we were a big, loud group. Almost all of us ordered the mimosa brunch: “infinite” mimosas (which they cut off at three in the afternoon), and two three we’re not really sure how many courses since the waiter told us something different from the menu. The food was INCREDIBLE. I had the smoked salmon appetizer, the eggs Benedict, and the mulled cider dessert. All of it was fantastic. I will say, the boys on either side of me ordered pâté and it seemed weird it didn’t come with crackers or bread or anything. I don’t even eat the stuff and knew that was off. Our service was a little weird. The waiter asked the birthday boy to let him finish talking before he asked questions. Rude. My eggs Benedict came out wrong as did the girl’s down the table, so by the time we got our right order, everyone else was almost done. And don’t call your mimosas infinite if they are not. But all in all it was a good time and who doesn’t enjoy getting mimosa buzzed all Sunday? I’ll give them a 3 out of 5 and maybe try going back with a smaller group.

Snag the Look (more of a focus on the navy color)

Add accessories liberally! Let your Blair Waldorf flag fly free!

I have a thing for novelty bags- mostly Betsey or Kate but I’m not picky. On one of our first dates, Kendall and I were just casually strolling through Georgetown and ended up in Kate Spade. I immediately went for the grapefruit collection and he was like, “Oh. Ok. So if I can’t figure out what to get out ever I should just get you something that’s shaped like something else?” Yup.

I ended up with that beautiful bag at the end of the summer. I also have a sparkly pizza clutch, a chocolate covered strawberry, a boombox, and a doughnut- just off the top of my head. For summer, just like my food cravings, I’m loving watermelon and ice cream. I mean, these bags are cute enough to eat, right?

This may be my favorite shoot of all time ever for several reasons. Firstly, Dani of Blonde in the District is a joy to work with and a total sweetie. She actually organized the brunch for a little group of us at Ambar– there were new bloggers and experienced bloggers and in betweens, like me. No judgment of anything that anyone was doing, just advice and problems we’ve all had and a great feeling of girl-power. I actually got some amazing advice from Alison of Wardrobe Oxygen. I’m going to paraphrase here but when I told her that recently I’d felt discouraged and even considered saying goodbye to LBC1, she told me to not give up on my blog, but since it’s mine all mine, mold it to be exactly what I want it to be. There is no right or wrong here.

Secondly, Dani picked this amazing spot for our shoot. The Fridge is a cool gallery down by Eastern Market, and apparently their mural outside changes all the time. I can’t wait to go back.

Thirdly, I was kinda diggin’ my outfit. It was actually decently warm on Saturday, and I was so happy to be without the bulky coat.I’ve been doing so much business casual on my blog that it was fun to break away from that. I’m also obsessed with my little milk purse. For whatever reason, I’ve wanted a milk carton purse for like a year. Kate Spade had one, Betsey Johnson had one, SkinnyDip London had one… and I wanted one, but didn’t want to spend a ton on a novelty bag. Hi Amazon.com for under $10 🙂
