I sometimes think of my blog as a paper doll or a mood board. It’s a place for my to put together looks that I may not ever wear IRL and that’s ok. Finding inspiration from other bloggers, or even one element of an outfit online can spark a whole look for me. This is one of those looks.

I have said multiple times that dressing for work is hard for me in the summer. I’m just kind of hot and miserable. Kristyn posted this Embellished Sheath Dress on Instagram a couple weeks ago and I haven’t stopped thinking about it. I haven’t pulled the trigger on it because I haven’t decided about shopping for new work clothes before I start my new job, but it’s definitely on my wish list!

A dress like that doesn’t really need a necklace because of the embellishments, but I think the Piña Studs compliment the beading on the dress perfectly.

The bags I use for day-to-day need to be big enough for my planner, my wallet, phone, ipod, headphones, and “social pouchy” (the silly name by bestie and I call the pouches we move from purse to purse that’s pre-packed with essentials like mini-brushes and perfume samples). The Ted Baker London Blossom Leather Tote fits the bill AND it has cherry blossoms on it’ so this DC girl approves.

I’m kind of a little booboo b*tch when it comes to wearing heels. Just not a fan and I complain about my feet hurting and it’s bad time for everyone involved. The exception comes in two forms: a low, block heel, or a sweet pair of espadrilles like these Caterina Scalloped Cutout Suede Wedge Espadrilles.

It’s cooling down a bit (for now) but aside from that, offices are always chilly. I always keep a cardigan or a scarf like the Badgley Mischka Ocelot Jacquard Wrap at my desk. And don’t forget a great pair of sunnies like these Round Cat Eye Sunglasses, which have 100% UV protection.

Have you ever seen a piece that inspired a whole look?

I’ve been limiting my shopping recently because Kendall + I have some wedding expenses we need to save up for. This jives weird with my new job because I just want to stock my closet with new clothes for work. I’ve been on a total work wear kick recently, but I also know myself and that I wear dresses 90% of the time. From what I can tell, my new position has a similar dress code to my firm, but I don’t want to buy anything before I kind of feel it out (for example-sleeves- are they mandatory?).

That being said, I do have my eye on some budget pieces. I have found that as I get older I’ve been looking for more versatile, classic pieces for work that can go from season to season. Bonus points if it looks good with a button-up underneath and a cardigan over for layering once it gets cold. I also look for a length that works with flats and my trusty OTK black boots.

Love is in the air with Valentine’s Day coming up tomorrow so I thought I would get onto one of my personal favorite subjects- weddings! So far I have two in 2017, possibly a third because one of my bests from just got engaged. One is in New York over the summer and the other is Charleston in September. Also- Kendall’s sister has a wedding in the works as do a couple of his friends, potentially. Never-ending love, folks!

I don’t know about you all, but I consider goings to weddings almost like having adult prom. It gives me a chance to get dolled up and dance the night away- whether stag or with my handsome date. Kendall and I love getting dressed up together and we actually coordinated really well for my sorority sister’s wedding this past December.

The first wedding I’m going to the bride told me is going to be “garden cocktail.” I freakin’ LOVE the sound of that. I’m actually going to be wearing a dress I wore in another wedding that I’ve had shortened to cocktail length. I’ve already re-worn it once- the a country farm wedding with cowgirl boots. I’m thinking pairing it this time with pastel heels maybe like these and a floral necklace like this. I am getting my wear out of this dang dress. But I love the idea of garden cocktail. It makes me think of Gatsby parties!

The other wedding is black tie optional for men, gowns for women. The bride, the lovely Sahra, put it this way: I don’t want to see your knees. Hey- the girl has a flair for the dramatic and I respect that! This is a little trickier since at this point the only floor-length formal dress I have is ivory, and even if she says that’s ok, I would still feel so funny about that. One of my cardinal rules of wedding going is that guests should not wear white or white adjacent dresses. To Rent the Runway I will likely go, but I’m going to keep my options open because with my height I often  always need alternations on long dresses.

Is anyone else gearing up for weddings in 2017? I’d love to know all about them! I could trade wedding stories for days! In the meantime, check out my picks for Garden Cocktail + Black Tie! My “budget” picks are under $50!

When I was in college, there were 3 of us who did pretty much everything together, or at least two at a time. Jennifer, Greer, and I were the Sassy Bitties, a subset of the broader Homegirls, members of Phi Sigma Sigma. All three of us were lettered (honorary brothers) of Tau Kappa Epsilon. My college boyfriend was in that house, as was Jennifer’s now fiance, Andrew. Andrew practically lived in our house and even wrote a song about us.

While I was downstairs in a single, you could probably find me in Greer + Jenn’s room chasing shots of Pinnacle Whipped with nachos. Gross. Or napping in one of their beds. Or, most likely, all three of us were at TKE. Those fun times I wouldn’t trade for anything! And now Andrew + Jenn are getting married in December an I am so thrilled that not only two of my best friends from Rider University are getting married, but that I get to bring Kendall to meet some of my best friends from Rider.

Since I’ll be seeing a lot of old friends, many I have not not seen in years, I want to look especially fab. The wedding is in December, so I can’t just “recycle” any of the pastel dresses I’ve worn in the weddings I was in this past year.Thank goodness for Rent The Runway. My only issue is that there are SO MANY CHOICES and I want them all. I need help picking a dress! I love love love the RED Valentino Fancy Flower Printed Dress but I’m not sure if I can pull off florals that time of year. I also adore the Badgley Mischka Fifth Avenue Showstopper Dress, but is rose gold too light for winter? All thoughts appreciated!
