It might surprise you to learn that there are four distinct types of skin. Each one will need a different kind of makeup, cleaning and care products and other items that are specific to a certain skin type. Here are the four types of skin you have on your face.

Best moisturizers for normal skin

Normal Skin

The term normal skin is used to describe regular, well-balanced skin. This means that it isn’t too far one way or another. It sits nicely in the middle of all of the skin types and is often seen as the optimum type of skin as it is the most balanced. This means that normal skin has a good balance of moisture which in turn means that it isn’t too dry or too oily. You can tell if you have normal skin because you will have all of or some of the following: a lack of blemishes, soft and smooth skin, decent blood circulation and fine, difficult to see pores.

Best face toner for oily skin

Oily Skin

Oily skin is where the body is producing too much sebum. This is the chemical that your body produces to make your skin waterproof and people who have oily skin produce too much of it. The reason for this overproduction can be due to genetics, a change or imbalance in your hormones, stress, the makeup you are using or a medication that your taking. You can spot oily skin in several ways, but the most common one is that you have large and easy to see pores. Other ways of identifying oily skin include: the skin being shiny and regular outbreaks of spots or acne.

Best dry skin face moisturizers

Dry Skin

Dry skin doesn’t produce enough of the waterproofing chemical known as sebum. As you get older, skin naturally becomes drier, but it can occur for other reasons. This could be due to a lack of hydration or a diet that lacks ceramides, fatty acids and cholesterol as all three are used to keep the skin healthy. Generally, you can fix both of these by changing your diet or drinking more water. You can tell if you have dry skin by it feeling rough, itchy or tight and if it starts to flake and fall away easily. Dry skin can be irritated easily, so you should use a skin care product for sensitive skin to avoid any irritation and to help improve your skin. If you are young and you notice that your skin is regularly dry despite a healthy diet and drinking enough water, then you should visit a doctor as your skin may be ageing prematurely.

Exfoliating face scrub

Combination Skin

Combination skin is exactly as it sounds. It combines the above skin types in certain areas of your face. Combination skin can usually be spotted because you will have oily skin along your forehead, chin and nose, but have dry skin on your cheeks. It is caused by the same reasons we have already mentioned, but for specific people, certain areas are more susceptible than others. This will mean that they might need to drink more water or use products that deal with oily skin and apply them to the affected areas.

…charcoal that is. I’ve been naughty- to my skin. Let me explain.

Just when my skin was happy, soft, and clear… I messed up. I read a blog post from a British blogger about a Korean BB cream with tea tree oil in it. I was intrigued, as tea tree oil is supposed to be very good for the skin. I found it on Amazon for under $10 and decided to give it a go, even though I was perfectly happy with my Neutrogena Healthy Skin Enhancer  for every day.

Ladies, if I teach you nothing else in the whole of this entire blog- let me tell you that once you find something that works for your skin, don’t mess with it! Especially if the ingredients are in another language because who the heck knows what I was doing to myself.

I went from having skin complimented by makeup friends to the return of the cystic acne all over my chin and neck. It’s horrible. I call it uggo-face and I feel like I’m back in middle school. And my stubborn ass just FINALLY threw the stuff away because I didn’t want to waste it. Yes. I KEPT using it like an idiot until I finally started getting itchy hives on top of the breakout. No. More.

I told you yesterday about my online Etsy community. I have found some of the nicest little extras for Christmas from that group, but I also went to these makers with my skin problem. Not only did I receive a bunch of product suggestions, but an aesthetician also answered my plea for help. She said to monitor my stress levels, monitor my cycle (hormones have a lot to do with chin acne), pay attention to my diet, and watch my routine for talking on the phone more, etc. She also suggested a mask and an exfoliator one to two times a week.

Based on her suggestions for a routine and the recommendation of products from other Etsy sellers, I think I’ve come up with a new skincare routine. I’m wanting to go more natural with my skincare, because forget ingredients being in another language, even if they’re in English I don’t always know what they are and that’s probably not good.

Check out the products on my wish list to help get me glowing again:

Anti-Acne and Facial Cleansing Mask

Tea tree oil, Vitamin E, Honey, Cinnamon, Witch hazel

Activated Charcoal Scrub

organic Shea butter, sunflower oil, mango butter, colloidal oatmeal, activated charcoal

peppermint charcoal goats milk soap

EDTA, Triethanolamine, sorbitol, Titanium Dioxide, goats milk powder, Lauric acid, sodium hydroxide, aqua, coconut oil, palm oil, glycerin, peppermint essential, activated charcoal

Frankincense Face Cream

frankincense essential oil, meadowfoam oil, vitamin E, jojoba oil, citric acid and sunflower oil, goats milk

I can’t wait to try out my more natural skincare routine, and I’ll keep you updated on what works (hopefully all of it). Plus I love that I’m supporting small businesses and let’s be honest… the packaging is way cuter than anything you’d find at a drugstore!

Skin issues are normal. Irritated and problematic skin most often includes blackheads and whiteheads, acne and pimples. It can affect everyone, no matter the age, skin color or gender. Those  conditions mostly are caused by one small, dull and persistent skin bacteria, medically known as Propionibacterium. Hormonal changes in our body, poor diet and neglect of self-care and hygiene are also included but it is important to emphasize that these are all connected. Your body is a machine- make sure ALL the parts are working.

Getting enough sleep and having healthy diet can help you get to flawless skin. By healthy diet I mean eating raw food (vegetables and fruits) and drinking plenty of fluids. Going to bed with makeup on is a total no-no, and I keep face wipes in bulk so there are no excuses. I also don’t usually wear a ton of makeup, opting for the natural look most of the time- my fave Healthy Skin Enhancer and a little bit of mascara.

I think that giving your skin a healthy treat is an indulgence we can all afford. For example, peeling masks are one of the easy ways to have a perfect skin. Using a facial peel off mask once per week will help you remove dead skin cells and blackheads which in fact are clogged pores. My recommendation, and also a great experience would be the Crystal Secret Black Mask. The product can be found online here: https://www.thecrystalsecret.com/products/black-mask, and surprisingly with a reasonable price. You will notice the outcome the very first time you try it. All in all, my advice is going to be very short and sweet:

Sleep, Drink water and don’t forget to treat your skin!

An issue with your skin can really alter both your look and the way you feel about yourself. Even a small issue can make you feel as though everyone is looking at you, watching you, honing in on that exact spot on your face that is making you feel embarrassed. Does that sound familiar? Of course, it does because we all experience this type of issue at one point or another.

You can go to bed in the evening with no blemish in sight and in the morning wake up with a face full of spots. Or, if you have been sunbathing the night before you might even wake up with an age spot.

Thankfully, there are options to deal with issues like this. So, let’s look at some of the fixes you can consider for common skin problems.

Anti-Aging Fading Serum

Vanquishing Age Spots

Yes, age spots are a nuisance and one that you may encounter if you spend too long lying underneath the sun, perhaps on your beach vacation. This leads to the discoloration of the skin and essentially the death of the skin cells leaving behind a nasty blemish. While you may hate seeing a mark like this on your face, it can be dealt with. To do so, you just need to look for a beauty product that is high in vitamin C.

The benefit of vitamin C is that it causes skin cells to replenish and replace quicker than usual. As such, it will lead to the blemish on your skin fading at a faster rate.

Blemish Face Oil for Acne Scar Treatment

Acne Scars

Anyone who has had acne will have at least a few scars from the condition on their face. The issue with this then is that even though acne is generally considered to be a pubescent issue, the effects can follow you long into adulthood. But again, there are treatment options like Dore Aesthetics. They can help rejuvenate your skin, smoothing over the scars and eradicated the issue completely.

Petechiae

Petechiae are annoying, harmless little red dots that appear on your skin and can be on your face. While annoying they are, virtually harmless. You don’t need to worry about them causing issues with your health, but they can look rather unpleasant, depending on how large they are and how many are there. They can be up to the size of a fingernail in diameter. They aren’t raised like acne but they are bright red and as such are very noticeable. Usually, these are caused by burst blood vessels.

That can happen due to a high level of strain on the body from an activity like lifting weights. The good news is that they can quickly be depleted with cold pressure. You just need to apply and ice bag to your face for ten minutes. If you do this, you should find that the redness disappears. If it doesn’t, and there are numerous red dots, you may want to contact a doctor. It could point to a more serious issue.

As you can see then for every complexion catastrophe, there is a solution. You don’t have to live your life embarrassed by the state of your skin.

Your skin can be your biggest beauty feature or your biggest pet peeve. In a world where women are made to think that makeup is an absolute must – and where wearing makeup can be fun and pretty – more often or not, your skin takes a beating. Forgetting to go through a skin care routine once or twice might be okay, but not to do it at all is the worst thing. Not only can it clog up your pores creating those pimples everyone hates, but it can also age you prematurely and create blemishes and discoloration.

Type of Skin

The first thing you need to do is recognize what sort of skin you have;

  • Oily skin is greasy, shiny and can have large pores.
  • Dry skin can be flakey, scaly and rough.
  • Combination skin can have both of the above, usually oily centers around the nose and forehead, and the dry skin stays on the cheeks and chin.
  • Sensitive skin can react to different products and can be a result of asthma or Rhodesia.

You should always buy products that are right for your skin type. If you’re unsure which, then ask a beautician or a trained someone at your drugstore of choice.

Skin Care Routine

A daily skin care routine doesn’t have to be complicated or time-consuming.

  • AM: wash your face with lukewarm water and pat dry with a clean towel – change your towel daily to avoid dabbing bacteria on your clean face. Washing first will rinse off the sleep and sweat from the night. Then apply a cleanser that is right for your skin type. Once this has been absorbed or washed off, continue with a toner, this helps to reduce any blemishes or discoloration. Next, apply a face moisturizer – these are different from what you would put on your body as it is lighter and conditioned to not clog up your pores.
  • PM: Wipe off your makeup with a makeup cloth or good old water – no soap and try not to scrub at your skin. Then repeat your morning routine, after your moisturizer has absorbed apply any particular skin treatment you might need. This might be some Marine collagen treatment or localized acne treatment.

Never go to bed with makeup on.

Makeup

When choosing your makeup make sure you avoid oil-based products, you want something water based and light for your skin. Again check if there are any that suit your skin type.

Apply an SPF primer before putting on your makeup, this helps to even out any blemishes and protects your pores from the worst of your makeup.

If you need to cover up, then use a green concealer for redness, purple for yellow undertones and peach or yellow for dark circles or bruising.

Avoid layering your makeup throughout the day, and try to not redo your makeup multiple times. The act of scrubbing clean your face and immediately applying chemicals will just irritate your skin.
