Back when I was shooting with Nicole, I lost my SD card with a shoot on it that then never made it to the blog. Somehow, it resurfaced when Kendall and I moved. I hadn’t given it a lot of thought until I lost ANOTHER SD card (those tiny little suckers!), ordered a new one with a mini, then Kendall needed the mini for our GoPro. So I stuck in the SD card I found, complete with my Taylor Swift concert outfit from two summers ago.

So much has changed in the past 2 years- I moved out of my first apartment and into a new one with a boy. I got engaged. My blog has changed and grown immensely. I was witness to some of my best and oldest friends getting married. I’ve made amazing new friends, fallen out of touch with others, acquired more self-confidence than I’ve ever known, and finally feel as settled as I’m going to be as a millennial in kind of a crazy time.

But so many things have also naht changed. I still get panic attacks, but I know how to deal with them and surround myself with people who help me through them, whether they know it or not. I refuse to give up my quirky and somewhat juvenile style, I’ll rock the hell out of my sneaker wedges, and I’m still obsessed with weddings. I still don’t love my job, but I’m going to keep working my ass off and giving it my all (and interviewing elsewhere when something interesting comes up).

Think back over your last two years- what has changed for you? What hasn’t? I’d love to know in the comments!

I tweeted about this a few days ago, but for whatever reason, I find myself dressing more preppy in spring. This started in high school, and I have no idea why. I didn’t even know I was doing it until a friend of mine told me he was glad about it- he wasn’t a huge fan of my band shirt/ tutu combos. But it was true, I did trade in my skinny jeans and skate shoes for Rainbow flip flops + J. Crew shorts. Something about warmer weather made me want to dress more streamlined. In the fall it’s like how many layers can I possibly put into one outfit and then in the spring it’s like ok how can I wear less but still not freeze on the chilly days? I put together my top basics for the season in both splurge + save, and frankly, I like the entire save side better. But the looks are ultimately the same. What do you think?

It’s kind of funny, as I was thinking about writing this post I got a text from Roxanne, who is Jewish, asking if I grew up shopping for Easter dresses, since this is obviously not something she’s experienced. And WOW that takes me back- shopping for Easter dresses used to be such. a. big. deal. And for whatever reason (maybe it was just cute) Candace and I had to agree on dresses so we would match. For many years, there was a little hat involved in the situation too. We would go out to Tyson’s Corner or Montgomery Mall (usually not Lakeforest- BLECH!) and hit up all the department stores and it was always, at least from what I remember, a fun girls’ day with Mama D.

Now that I’m older, there isn’t such fanfare around the actual shopping for the dresses, but I always dress up extra nice for Easter, usually in something I get for my birthday. Since Rox asked, this year I’m wearing the Camilla Shirtdress from Cabi- probably with nude mules and a cardigan.

Sidebar: I actually always dress up for church in general. I know it’s more important that you be there at all, but I will never be there in jeans. No sir no how.

Anyway, I guess I’m just saying that it’s fun to dress up for what’s really the most important holiday (at least to me) in the Christian church. But that’s not to say you have to break the bank doing it. I tend to have a lot of luck at Charming Charlie, and as I’m actually home in the ‘burbs this weekend and doing some shopping with Mama, I might take a little looky-loo.

If you’re not familar, Charming Charlie is also a one-stop shop. Think Forever 21 prices, slightly better quality, and organized by color. That’s right. COLOR. So you can run in and find your coordinating pieces ASAP. Since you have barely a week to figure out your Easter outfit situation, this could be helpful. And no, this post wasn’t sponsored, I just love how their stores are set up, the price point, and the endless collection of their cute little pieces to complete an outfit. This is just one outfit I’ve put together, but the options are infinite!

Who else gets a little complacent with their outfit choices in the week? We can all be a little guilty of sticking with the same choices that we know works well, often to save us time in the morning or even to just help ease us into the day a little slower. But, there are so many fun ways we can take our normal everyday outfits to the next level that none of us really have an excuse not to feel amazing each and every day. So I thought it would be worth sharing with you some of the ways you can do that yourself. I hope it offers you a little outfit and day to day wear inspiration.

Steve Madden Knit Pom Pom Hat

Up your hat game

Are you a hat person? Or are you one of those people that think a hat just won’t suit them? You are not alone. So many people will avoid wearing a hat because they think it won’t work out it just won’t look right, but the truth is, we can all up our hat game and embrace this look. There are so many wearable styles for the whole year round you are bound to find something that works for you. Why not be a little outrageous this week and try wearing a hat for a change. It could certainly transform your everyday look.

Kimball glasses

Let’s make a spectacle

Whether you need them for your eyesight anyway or just like the look of them, wearing glasses can really make a difference to your whole outfit. There are some beautiful and quirky designs on websites like Eyewearhaus that could really make a statement with your normal everyday look.

Smashbox Cover Shot Eyeshadow Palette – Bold

Try fun looks with makeup

How you wear your makeup can take an outfit from normal to glamorous with a few simple changes. So why not try out a few different looks and see the difference it could make? Maybe choose a full coverage foundation or try your hand at contouring. Or why not work on your eyeshadow and eyeliner skills and create a few different smokey eye effects. Thankfully places like YouTube are stacked full of tutorials with video step by step guides for all kinds of makeup looks.

Kate Spade New York Dotty Ice Cream Wedge Sandal, Mint Liqueur

The shoes can really make or break an outfit

Shoes can be a real statement when it comes to an outfit, they can certainly dress it up or dress it down. So why not take advantage of this and mix things up a little. Wear your usual casual attire and team it with a pair of heels instead of a comfortable pair of converse. Or wear your favorite dress with a cute pair of ankle boots or flats instead or heels. Who says there are rules for things like this?

Betsey Johnson Rose Gold-Tone Imitation Pearl and Stone Cluster Statement Necklace

Make a statement

Finally, the last way you can change up your outfit is to add a statement feature. This might be your choice of handbag, the coat or jacket you wear or even subtle details like the jewelry you choose to model. All of these statement pieces can transform an everyday look into something special.

I can’t believe I almost turned down this dress while shopping with my mom before Christmas at the new Clarksburg Premium Outlets. We were in Ralph Lauren, and I’d actually wanted to try on another dress that they didn’t have in my size when my mom pulled this stunner off a rack. I tried it on and wanted to cry- I felt huge. I felt like my arms were gigantic and I had stubby legs. But my mom told me it was actually a slimming cut for me and, after seeing these pictures, I’m going to have to agree. Why is it that sometimes it takes someone else to tell us we look good to believe it? I’m short and I’m curvy but I take care of myself and dammit if I’m not feeling great right now.

And something about leather- I felt like a total bad-ass when I wore this outfit to work. I wore the jacket like a blazer- it was light enough to wear under my winter coat + keep me comfy in the office AC. Because of the length of the dress, OTK boots kind of cut off my legs, which just gave me an excuse to rock a pair of heels, something I’ve been trying to do more. The necklace was just a treat to myself because I’ve been eyeing blue statement necklaces and this one happened to be half off. Unfortunately, the sale is over, but T+J Designs is constantly having sales, so I’m sure it’ll come back around.

I think the sparkle/ leather/ polished look worked for me. I’m finding that the more polished I am for work, the better I feel. Fitted and professional wear just makes me feel good. What do you wear to feel confident at work?
