I’ve been kind of mushing about Valentine’s Day for a couple of weeks now, and I’m so thrilled that January is finally over and February is here. This month, it’s Kendall’s birthday, Valentine’s Day, my shower/ bachelorette party, and my dad’s birthday. And no leap-year this year (I just checked) so February is going to fly. Clearly, I had to do a pink on pink on pink theme for this month’s wish list!

  1. One of my favorite perfumes now comes in PINK. Didn’t think the bottle could be any cuter than the original but here’s MOSCHINO Moschino Pink Fresh Couture.
  2. My bridesmaids poo-pooed the kate spade new york Lotus Slip-On Sneaker as a wedding shoe, but they all agreed that the classic car nod to my granddaddy would be cute for the rehearsal dinner or after party.
  3. I just got a new phone. (RIP 6s) Maybe a cute new Portable Charger to go with it?
  4. The reviews for Too Faced Glow Job Radiance-Boosting Glitter Face Mask aren’t stellar, but between the cheeky name and the fact there’s glitter in it I think it would be fun to try. I’m also very into (probably because of the packaging) their:
  5. Diamond Light Multi-Use Diamond Fire Highlighter and
  6. Love Flush Long-Lasting 16-Hour Blush
  7. Rox got a Baby G watch in a review box and I was reminded how the cool girl freshman year of high school had one. Especially loving the BABY-G G-Shock ‘Ana-Digi’ Resin Watch.
  8. Totally typical Caro. Halogen + ruffles- Halogen Velvet Ruffle Top.
  9. Honestly I’d never given Ted Baker bags much of a though until I snagged the perfect black tote from the Nordstrom sale a couple years ago but their bags are stunning! Super into this extra af Icon Faux-Pearl and Crystal Large Tote.
  10. The Sadie sunnies in pink on pink have be discontinued so they’re under $10!
  11. Let’s honest, this Free People Bell Sleeve Swing Dress is going to be a hit or miss. I’m def going to order to try it on though!
  12. Between Etsy, Picmonkey, and Zazzle, I have DIYed quite a bit for my wedding. This includes stationary of all kind and t-shirts for my bachelorette party/ getting ready on the big day. This Mrs. Price Sweatshirt is my most recent creation and I feel like even though it is somehow extra and basic, I kind of need it.

What’s on your February wish list?

I told you last year how stockings are the biggest deal in the Downing household. I’ve picked up a few things already, but collecting those bits and baubles for my family is so much fun! This year for friend gift exchanges, why not try putting together a little stocking rather than one big gift? I find that tiny surprises can be the most fun! And all of these gifts are Secret Santa approved under $25!

  1. Remember when you were a kid and socks were, like, the worst Christmas present ever? NO LONGER! Get these Doughnut Socks 20% off with the code thecarolove20.
  2. I love a good dupe. These earrings look so much like Kate Spade but they’re under $10!
  3. A chronic ruiner of sunnies, I can’t help but love the fact that the Marina shades are budget friendly for when I inevitably step on or scratch them.
  4. Anyone else use over-ear headphones as earmuffs?
  5. My friends and I are, for the most part, a little extra and would at least try this rainbow highlighter (I know I would).
  6. I have no idea how this works but this lip gloss is so pretty and apparently the color changes depending on who’s wearing it!
  7. I actually have quite the collection of ornaments and I could have a whole box of baubles inspired by sweet treats like these  Kurt S Adler Xmas Claydough Macaroon Ornaments.
  8. I’m such a sucker for mixing metals and, actually, the rose gold ring in this set of three rings is the style I want for my wedding ring!
  9. Bring the sparkle and stay cozy with this Mixit Jeweled Pom Beanie And Glove 2-pc. Cold Weather Set.
  10. I like the idea of a perfume bar because it won’t spill in your travels. Plus I mean how stinkin’ cute?
  11. I honestly think if I HAD to pick a favorite color, Candy Shop by Deborah Lippmann would be it.
  12. Fun fact: instead of using a wallet I just usually carry a change purse attached to my keys with my ID and important cards in it.
  13. For the friend who is always losing her keys, a big ole fluffy key chain should do the trick.
  14. Kendall and I had concert ticket save the dates for our wedding. Along with that theme, loving the Kate Spade New York Women’s Admit It iPhone 6 Case.
  15. Can totally vouch that Sugarfina Baby Champagne Bears are SUHGOOD!
  16. The best part of the Old Dutch DuraCopper Heart Hip Flask Set is that it allows you to be classy while still doing shots.
  17. Anyone else adore milky pens when they were younger? These gel pens are for the girls with the planners that want to take them to the next level.
  18. I don’t think one can possibly have too many little treat trays.
  19. Coffee is awesome but merlot flavored coffee is in another stratosphere! I mean how perfectly cozy does a cup of that sound on a Sunday?
  20. Keep your favorite gal hydrated in a glam and eco-friendly way with a Kate Spade New York Glitter 16-Ounce Glass Water Bottle.
  21. I dare you to tell me that the description for this candle isn’t scrumptious: Prosecco Rose contains notes of brut rose champagne, chilled and poured over cassis berries and edible white rose petals.
  22. Totally fangirled over this Moonrise Kingdom journal. Anyone else catch this adorable Wes Anderson flick?
  23. A fashion dictionary would be the sweetest gift for your chic chick.
  24. A fitting tribute to all things British, this Royal Albert mug features the girly Cheeky Pink pattern in a Union Jacket design.

Let me first say that there is literally nothing wrong with being basic at it’s most *ahem* basic level. I like what I like and if a trazillion other girls are also wearing riding boots and herringbone vests and sipping pumpkin spice lattes, so be it. My former roommate and I actually threw a Pumpkin Spice Friendship party. I kid you not. And everyone had a blast!

I found an old-ish Cosmo article that defends basic-ness and my favorite line is:

Liking something popular doesn’t make you lame. Discounting someone for having those same interests, however, does. Own your basic-ness, find your tribe…

(My tribe has a new uniform: my Sissy in law, Phi Sig Little, and I all just got this sweatshirt.)

But Fall has always been my favorite time of year- I hate being hot and love Halloween. I read once, I think in Cosmo too actually, that dressing in fall should actually be more fun because fall clothes have more substance than the dresses we throw on in the summer. I totally agree! I love sweaters and scarves and vests and textures and layers. I also look great in fall colors, tbh. Olive green, deep burgundies, amethyst purples. And with that, I bring you the basic essentials you should probably have for fall.

When I was little, my mom used to literally pack laundry baskets to take my sister and I to the beach for weeks at a time. As we got older, the kids got more involved in things at home (swim team mostly) and we went to the beach less and less. The upkeep of the house was too much for a place that, all told, was being used for maybe a couple of weeks out of the year. My family ultimately sold our little cottage on stilts by the sea that had been in the family for three generations- right before Hurricane Sandy hit. I don’t get to the beach nearly as much as I’d like to, but a girl can still dream about packing up and shipping off to the shore.

Strapless open-toed sandals

This summer, I’m going to find some stylish strapless open-toed sandals. The less strap, the better, to prevent blisters + hot feet. There are already hundreds of different designs in most stores.  I plan to look for something in a light brown color because that tends to go well with almost anything.

Designer swimsuits

I’m not one to spend a fortune on designer clothes if I can find cheaper alternatives. However, I rarely cut back when it comes to buying swimsuits. That is because even the designer brands are often affordable.  Fella Swim swimsuits online seem to fit the bill. Still, there are lots of other brands I’m going to consider. I just happen to think that it’s worth spending a little more when you’re buying something so delicate and revealing.

Essential beach accessories

No beach outfit is complete without a makeover and a few essential accessories. Firstly, I hate carrying things around, and so I’m always one to throw everything in a beach bag. It’s sensible to get something much larger than your handbag if you want it to hold everything you require.

I’m also prudent to invest in some sunglasses to protect your eyes. If you’re going to buy sunglasses from The Sunglasses Warehouse, you just need to find a style you enjoy. The same applies when you buy from any well-known retailer. Many ladies are opting for aviator-style glasses this summer, but you should choose whatever frames your face nicely.

At the end of the day, it’s possible to make substantial savings if you shop around. For that reason, it’s sensible to check online before you head out to the retail stores. Sometimes you’ll find better deals and offers using the internet. Whatever you decide to do, I hope you look amazing on the beach.

I’m sorry for the things I said when I got too hot. July is here and things are heating up-literally- for the summer. If it was completely up to me, I would spend all of July down the shore in a bathing suit drinking out of the hose at my beach house and living on local shellfish. However, I’m developing a shellfish allergy, that house is gone, and adults don’t get to go away for a whole month. WOMP.

My goal is to enjoy summer locally the best I can, despite hating the heat and being swamped as heck with work. July 3rd is very big for the Downings, so Kendall and I both took the day to sit my the pool, enjoy a few beverages, and take in the fireworks a day early at Montgomery Country Club with my family. For the 4th, we went with some of my best ladies and our menfolk to Red White and Fuego 2017. I’m still in a bit of recovery mode. Not sure of any other definite plans for July yet, but hand me a shady spot and a cold glass of rosé I should be fine.

the carolove july wish list

  1. You know what goes really well with rosé? Rose gold torti Forrest glasses.
  2. I’ve been really down on myself the past week or so, but luckily I have a world of amazing cheerleaders. Sometimes I just have to remember to take a step back and realize that my bad day is really nada in the scheme of things. Here ya go with the ban.do Cotton No Bad Days Graphic Sweatshirt.
  3. One of my bridesmaids sent me these Barbie Women’s Barbie Shoe Print Canvas Sneakers on Pinterest. Gimme.
  4.  It’s crazy to me that I used to hate on gingham so much because now I find myself looking for gingham. I like this unexpected embellished look on the Floerns Women’s Bell Sleeve Embroidered Tunic Dress.
  5. This pattern is kind of cray but I think this Allover Banana Print Buttoned Keyhole Top And Shorts set is super fun!
  6. Cold shoulder is how I do off the shoulder and the Tropical Print Open Shoulder Dress With Frill is perf for summer date nights.
  7. The stone in these Women’s Kendra Scott Dani Stone Drop Earrings is gorgeous~ so sparkly!
  8. The beads on this Women’s Panacea Beaded Statement Necklace look like candy and I’m kind of digging tribal-y inspired jewelry for summer.
  9. We could all stand to remember the words on this Women’s Mantraband Have Courage & Be Kind Engraved Cuff.
  10. I got pretty badly burnt on Monday… and now Kendall is gone on a business trip. Herbivore Botanicals After Sun Skin Soothing Aloe Mist would make it so I don’t have to try to rub aloe on my back right?
  11. On top of the burn, my face is feeling pretty dull and gross after sweating through my makeup and too much sun. I’m all about honey everything and would love to try the Farmacy Honey Potion Renewing Antioxidant Hydration Mask with Echinacea GreenEnvy.
  12. My blush is almost completely out. I like a bit of shimmer in mine so I’m down to try Too Faced Sweethearts Perfect Flush Blush.
