One of my favorite tops in high school was actually my mom’s Easter dress from when she was about the same age. It was a really light chiffon material with dainty red embroidery. I loved wearing it was a shredded denim micro-mini and my cowgirl boots. I was certainly finding my own style at the time, but it was cool to be wearing something that my mom also wore in high school.

Embroidery has been coming around in a big way. I actually fell in love with an embroidered utility jacket, but according to the size chart I’m like a large and that particular size is all gone so there we go. I’m especially loving the peasant-y dresses and floral shoes though! Such a pretty look for summer! (And the Betsey sneakers are a total dupe perfection move in case you don’t want to shell out the cash for the Gucci version!)

There is a very silly video that has made its way around the interwebz a few times- for girls who wear activewear, to do not-active things. I, admittedly, can be one of those girls. For the past two weekends, I’ve slid into yoga pants and a fun tank, covered up with a cardi, and ran all my errands that way. Yes, I actually made it to the gym (eventually), but I also didn’t mind being out and about in leggings with Uggs.

In my opinion, yoga pants are never for work (unless you work at a gym, yoga studio, etc.) but for weekends, it’s all good. Activewear also tends to run a little steep, so I’ve taken to checking out sites like Zaful. However, you do get what you pay for, and the pants don’t stay up as well, for example. Great for an easy Vinyasa flow, but maybe not for a sculpt class or anything with a lot of cardio or jumping.

When I was little, I lived in denim dresses + overalls the way I live in striped t shirt dresses + AEO jeggings now. When I got a little older, honestly, after September 11th, I wore only patriotic themed clothes from Limited Too and Tommy Hilfiger. This was around the time I really started going to concerts and my concert uniform was this great pair of TH jeans that were inappropriate for a 7th grader low cut with the American flag spray painted down one leg and bedazzled with a peace sign. I liked to wear them with a white longsleeved t that said THTHTHTHTH all over it in red, white, and blue sparkles. I was stylin‘. I’m sure Aaron Carter, Jump 5, and Dream Street appreciated my fashion sense every time I finagled my way on or backstage.

I adore that fun denim is making a comeback. I think the most fun thing about fashion right now is it’s kind of anything goes. We can all admit the the 90s/ 2000s were not the best places on the fashion timeline, but crazy pieces that we remember with disdain are coming back retooled and restyled to fit better and look more chic,  although it is a little crazy to me that the same look I got from Limited Too is going for upwards of $300.

Between patches, frays, flairs, and overalls- I can’t decide what my favorite flashback style is! I might just need to try them all. Heaven knows that my short frame combined with my booty makes denim difficult, so likely they won’t all work for me. One of my best friends has been telling me for years that overalls aren’t flattering on anyone, but I’m going to politely disagree until I can try on a pair for myself. I’m also making myself a new patch jacket since the one I’d had for.ev.er. literally disintegrated on me last spring. Can’t wait to debut it!

Remember last week or whenever how it got nice? And then it freaking SNOWED at the end of the week? And it wasn’t even nice snow it was gobs of slush. Gross. I was so ready for the week to end already and that was just the ice(ing) on the cake.

Anyway, I guessss it’s ok because it gave me a chance (maybe my last one of the season) to rock my Topshop from Nordstrom leopard fur coat (last seen here). I wanted to be both cozy and cute as I slid into the weekend and I think I got this.

Now, let’s talk weekend essentials. You know I love a good backpack, but the one I got last year was a little small. Hi gorgeous Eddie Borgo for Target Backpack in Thunder. The backpack so nice that my mom bought me the same one. And if you’re constantly on the go like me, you probably have a snack or two in your bag. When Myprotein asked if I could try some of their products, I jumped at the chance. I ordered Protein Cookies in white almond, Protein Chox in caramel nut, and their 100% peanuts peanut butter. I’ll be honest, the cookies were a little too almond-y for me, it was almost overpowering. And I could really taste whatever extra protein was in it. But the chox were great! They taste like a heartier snickers and are definitely better for your if you’re like me and have a 3:30 in the afternoon chocolate craving. The peanut butter? On apples, one of my favorite snacks/ deserts.

How do you get ready for the weekend?

Last week, I brought you my gifts for guys. This week, I’m showing love to my GALentines. Before our girl Leslie Knope made it popular, I was hosting little dinners for my best gal-pals in high school around Valentine’s Day. My family has belonged to Montgomery Country Club since I was in kindergarten, and they always helped me set up the cutest events- big or small. For this particular dinner, we bought in balloons + decor, plus they made us a special, personalized menu.

Not saying you have to go all out and host a dinner, but I do think it’s important to remember the ladies who make a positive impact on your life- supporting, uplifting, and generally making your world a brighter place. I know that Valentine’s Day is often dismissed as being created by card + candy companies, but I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again- there is nothing wrong with any day that is marked by the message of love.
