If you’ve recently got engaged or you’ve been thinking about your wedding for as long as you can remember, you may be considering lots of options when it comes to choosing a venue. With so many wonderful places around, it can be tough to decide where to host your special day. If you’re thinking of going outdoors, here are some pros and cons to bear in mind before you make a decision.

The pros

Stunning scenery

Nothing beats rolling hills, dramatic mountains or sweeping golden sands. Not only can you tie the knot surrounded by incredibly beautiful scenery, but your photographs will also look spectacular.

Making the most of the weather

If you’re getting married in a hot country or sunny skies are forecast, it’s a shame to be cooped up inside on your wedding day. Getting hitched outdoors enables you to make the most of the weather and enjoy the fresh air.

Individuality

When you get married in the great outdoors, there’s scope to make your celebration truly unique. Most of us have been to a wedding at a hotel, a golf club or a castle. But have you ventured into the forest for a wedding, watched a couple say their vows by a lake or watched the sunset over the ocean after a ceremony before?

The cost

The cost of every wedding varies significantly, but often, hosting an outdoor wedding works out cheaper than hiring a venue. If you’re working on a tight budget and you’ve only looked at indoor venues, it may be worth visiting some outdoor options.

The cons

The weatherThe weather can be both an advantage and a disadvantage thanks to its unpredictability. A splendid setup could become a complete nightmare if the weather doesn’t play ball. If you’ve got everyone sat patiently outside or you’re planning an al fresco party, the last thing you want is torrential rain and high winds. If the weather isn’t guaranteed, try and come up with a plan B, just in case.

The practicalities

When you’re getting married outside, there may be some practical issues you need to consider, such as your electricity supply and where your guests are going to go to the toilet. Port a potty rental is a great solution for the latter while hiring a generator could work if you’re tying the knot out in the sticks. If you’ve arranged for caterers to prepare food on-site, they may have their own power supply, so liaise with them in the run-up to the big day.

Choosing a location for your wedding is one of the most exciting parts of wedding planning. If you’re considering hosting your ceremony and reception outside, there are lots of pros and cons to think about. If you’re struggling to narrow down your options, write a list, and see which venue comes out on top. Think about what you want to your day to look like, and the kind of tone you want to set. Celebrate your style and personality, and have fun adding some unique, personal touches.

Roughly one in four engaged couples now choose to have an overseas wedding. Traveling abroad for your nuptials can be a great way of avoiding the stress of a home-based wedding, and it sure does make for some spectacular photos, but you need to make sure that you cover the bases if you want your destination wedding to go off without a hitch.

From transporting your wedding dress to making it legal, here are the essential tips to making your overseas wedding a success:

Boarding Pass destination wedding invitation

Is it Legal?

You don’t want to go through the whole process of getting married only to find out that the ceremony wasn’t legal, so the number 1 thing you should do before planning an overseas wedding is check whether your vows will be valid in the country you are traveling to, as well as back home.

If you really want to get married at a particular destination, whether it be Denmark or Dominican Republic, but your marriage would not be recognized back at home, you could always have a quickie wedding at home before flying out for the big event.

Hiring a Wedding Photographer

It is much easier to get what you want from your wedding photographs if your photographer speaks your language, so it might be worth finding the perfect wedding photographer at home and flying them out. Sure, it’s one extra expense, but it’s worth it if it means you’ll get perfect photos of the occasion.

Transporting Your Wedding Dress

The majority of airline companies will enable you to take your wedding dress on board as hand luggage, and I suggest this is something you do if you want to avoid a dress disaster. Luggage in the hold goes missing so often that it really isn’t worth the risk.

Bespoke or Package

Do you want a completely unique wedding or one that is offered as part of a package? Many exotic resorts have a wedding ‘menu’ where you can choose various options to design your dream wedding, but obviously, there are limits to what is on offer. So, if you would like a really unique wedding, you may have to arrange each element separately. This is a lot of work, so you might want to think about hiring a wedding planner to take care of the logistics for you.

Consider the Weather

If you’re planning an Indian beach wedding, the last thing you want to do is book it for Monsoon season. Monsoon Wedding might be a great film, but it’s hardly a suggestion!

Get Wedding Insurance

As well as travel insurance, it is a good idea to purchase wedding insurance when traveling abroad to get married. There are so many things that can go wrong from missed flights to lost and stolen rings, that you need insurance if only for your own peace of mind.

These tips cover the basics of preparing for an overseas wedding, but the process is much more involved, which is why it is suggested that you start planning for an overseas wedding even sooner than you would a wedding in your home country.

You’re going to the chapel and you’re going to get married… you know the song! Getting engaged is an exciting and scary experience and can throw you into a planning frenzy. When most people start organizing a wedding, they rarely think about what they want, but start thinking about a wedding to impress everyone else. Allow me to stop you right there. Put down the pen, step away from the list and think. Think about who is getting married: you. Think about who the wedding should be for: you. This isn’t about your mother or great aunt who can’t get to the church because there’s no transport. Your wedding day isn’t about seating two hundred in the church and hosting a huge event for two hundred and fifty people, complete with owls bringing the rings.

Your wedding day is an event, yes, but it should be about what works for you and your fiancé. You’ll learn very quickly that everyone and anyone will have an opinion on where you should get married, when you should get married and what song you should glide down the aisle to. It’s for these reasons that many people are choosing to flee and get married abroad. Well, perhaps not flee – you’re not eloping. However, the people who will assume an invitation for your wedding will quickly learn that you are having your wedding the way you want it. You may come across some resistance; other people will be cranky that you didn’t make your day convenient for them to attend. So here are five supremely perfect reasons you should get married abroad:

Boarding Pass Save The Date

The Place

Exotic locations, warm weather, beautiful memories created in the form of Wedding Photographers (should you choose it as your destination).

The Specially Selected Invite List

It’s really appealing for most people to just invite people they truly want. So no second or third cousins invited out of familial obligation, just the best friends and family members you love the dearest.

The Weather

A wedding abroad can mean no panic about rain on the big day. You can choose to have an outdoor wedding and not worry that the June weather may send you a tornado and hail stones that will rip the marquee out of the grass. There’s little to no worry about whether you’ll get sunshine.

The Cost

Destination weddings are – strangely enough – cheaper. You also get a built-in holiday out of it, which is just a bonus!

The Memories

You’re going to have a truly unique experience and it’s not something any other holiday will be able to replicate. The weddings of friends you’ll attend will also be incomparable to your own, so you have that to hold like a gem!

Destination weddings are usually run by package providers who are there for you to make your big day everything you wish it to be. Get married in the way you and your fiancé wish and the rest will simply fall into place.
