Sometimes I see outfits on my friends and immediately wish they were on me. My girl Amanda of Whistle & Wild looked absolutely adorable at a casual friends meet-up a couple of weeks ago, and I thought I’d take a stab at recreating the look of this outfit with different pieces (and maybe without the hat because my moon face looks even rounder in hats like that.) I love her graphic tee tied into a crop with the maxi skirt + statement necklace, but then I flew off the handle with the accessories I chose. As a shorty, I have to pair maxi anything with heels or  wedges, and the more rose gold the better, in my opinion.

This kind of look is so fun for summer brunch or rooftop drinks. While we were all about the red, white, and blue for Red White and Fuego at Mission, I would wear this for margaritas with my señoritas any day. Clearly I’m into bright colors + playful prints, and now that I don’t have my sorority advisor telling me to “take one accessory off before you leave the house,” I have thrown that advice completely out the window.

I have  decided that I’m going to try something new- one month where I’m allowed to shop then one month where I’m not. I’m going to attempt that for about a year, and after kind of enjoying my Lent of no shopping I think I can do it. I haven’t decided yet if wedding stuff counts, but it certainly does mean that I can’t just clickclickclick whatever I want into my cart, you know?

Annnnyway– June is officially OFF, but I wanted to gather some of the fun things I’ve been eyeing on SheIn.

I discovered SheIn a couple of years ago, and honestly there have been a few huge hits… and some abysmal misses. While I immediately donated a couple things, one of my favorite work dresses. for example, came from the international fast fashion powerhouse.  What I’ve learned about fast fashion is this: be more critical that you even think you need to be. Read the reviews. Scrutinize the size charts. Know that the quality probably won’t be the best.

But for the prices- sure! Go ahead and try that trend. Rock that dupe. Getcha self a little something for that vacation (but just make sure you give yourself enough time for that order to come in.)

It’s kind of funny, as I was thinking about writing this post I got a text from Roxanne, who is Jewish, asking if I grew up shopping for Easter dresses, since this is obviously not something she’s experienced. And WOW that takes me back- shopping for Easter dresses used to be such. a. big. deal. And for whatever reason (maybe it was just cute) Candace and I had to agree on dresses so we would match. For many years, there was a little hat involved in the situation too. We would go out to Tyson’s Corner or Montgomery Mall (usually not Lakeforest- BLECH!) and hit up all the department stores and it was always, at least from what I remember, a fun girls’ day with Mama D.

Now that I’m older, there isn’t such fanfare around the actual shopping for the dresses, but I always dress up extra nice for Easter, usually in something I get for my birthday. Since Rox asked, this year I’m wearing the Camilla Shirtdress from Cabi- probably with nude mules and a cardigan.

Sidebar: I actually always dress up for church in general. I know it’s more important that you be there at all, but I will never be there in jeans. No sir no how.

Anyway, I guess I’m just saying that it’s fun to dress up for what’s really the most important holiday (at least to me) in the Christian church. But that’s not to say you have to break the bank doing it. I tend to have a lot of luck at Charming Charlie, and as I’m actually home in the ‘burbs this weekend and doing some shopping with Mama, I might take a little looky-loo.

If you’re not familar, Charming Charlie is also a one-stop shop. Think Forever 21 prices, slightly better quality, and organized by color. That’s right. COLOR. So you can run in and find your coordinating pieces ASAP. Since you have barely a week to figure out your Easter outfit situation, this could be helpful. And no, this post wasn’t sponsored, I just love how their stores are set up, the price point, and the endless collection of their cute little pieces to complete an outfit. This is just one outfit I’ve put together, but the options are infinite!

You know those pieces that you find and fall in love with immediately? I had two of those in this in outfit I wore for my friend Joanne’s bridal shower in Annapolis this past weekend. Both the clutch and the romper are from Francesca’s, and both were love at first site. Did you see my post on Tuesday? The clutch sold out almost immediately, and the romper is already gone from their website. Basically, ladies, in this world of “fast fashion” you better grab it if you love it.

Actually though, this was not the outfit I had originally planned. I have a hot pink blazer that I love and somehow missed right in front of me- literally hanging in the center of my closet. Luckily, one of the best parts of being home in Laytonsville is that I have two wardrobes. (Thanks, Mama D!) I grabbed the red blazer from her closet and slipped into the red wedges I’ve had since I was 18. Boom. Good to go- the blazer is mine now. 😉

I was so glad that the weather held out for Jo’s day. We had an amazing tea party at Reynold’s Tavern and then her parents were sweet enough to lend out their Annapolis house for a bridesmaid slumber party. We hit my personal favorite bar, Pusser’s, and danced the night away. A special thank you to her MOH, Gabbi, for taking charge of the organization that weekend AND for taking my pictures!
