If you already have your summer holiday booked, good for you! The sun is fast approaching, and you’ll be jetting away before you know. For the less lucky among us, we have yet to book. Deciding where to go isn’t always easy, especially for those who jet away often. The travel inspiration well doth run dry, and it’s hard to know how to satisfy that travel bug. The good news is, there’s plenty of travel inspo out there if you know where to look. And, if you don’t, we’ve got a few tips to help you out!

World Scratch Travel Map

LITERATURE

Literature may not be the first place many of us go to find travel inspiration. But, there’s a lot to be learned about every subject in a good book, even traveling! If you’re not sure where to jet to next, turn to the people in the know. You could opt for classics, like Kerouac’s ‘On The Road,’ or a more literal travel memoir, like Gilbert’s ‘Eat, Pray, Love.’ Getting lost in travel writing is sure to lead you to your next ideal location. You might want to get reading, though. You don’t have long to decide!

ONLINE, OF COURSE

Nowhere gives us such easy access to destinations as the internet. We have the whole world at our fingertips. So, make use of it when searching for new locations. Travel blogs can be a fantastic way to read up on a variety of destinations. They’re a good place to head if you have no ideas. Or, if you’re having trouble deciding between a few locations, research each. See what they have to offer, and compare. The good news is, you can book a trip to the loser next year!

MAGAZINES

Never underestimate the power of travel magazines. Many of us forget about these gems because of our internet exploits. But, there’s something about a travel magazine that can’t be beaten. They outline locations in a way a lot of websites fail to, and come complete with pictures. You could opt for a general travel mag, or something more specialized, like a ski or cruise magazine. These are a fantastic way to gain inspiration throughout the year. That way, you won’t struggle when next summer rolls around. A subscription would find a little piece of travel inspiration landing on your doorstep all year round.

TELEVISION AND FILM

For the more visual, television and films may be the first port of call. There’s no denying that this can be a fantastic way to see the scenery of a place. If you make your travel choices based on appearance, this would be perfect for you. Turn to programs set in other countries. With film, there are plenty to choose from. Some worth mentioning are ‘Into The Wild.’ ‘Seven Years In Tibet.’ and ‘Midnight In Paris.’. And, if you’re not keen on reading, skip the literature step and see if there are any movies of the books that appeal. Most of the time, you’ll find there are!
