I’ve never been much of a business traveler. Back when I worked for a financial advisory firm, the most exciting trip I ever took was to Toronto for our Christmas party—a festive jaunt, but hardly what you’d call frequent flyer status. Fast forward to my new(ish) role, and things are looking a little different. Now, I get the opportunity to assist with conferences, visit different locations, and potentially participate in out-of-town Community Days. It’s an exciting change, but one that called for a serious luggage upgrade.

Let me paint you a picture of my previous travel gear: a rose gold rollaway suitcase I received as a wedding gift (RIP, as it finally cracked after plenty of adventures) and an adorable pink Sloan Ranger overnight bag adorned with woody wagons. While I absolutely loved that bag, it wasn’t exactly screaming “professional.” Plus, the company seems to have vanished, taking that print with it.

So, with a travel-packed 2025 calendar on the horizon—four confirmed conferences, likely six, trips to a manufacturing plant a few hours away, and some potential Community Days—I needed to revamp my travel arsenal. Traveling to a new country can be very exciting but also daunting. It is essential to take the time and learn about the culture before you arrive and understand how different it will be from home. Here are some steps that will make your trip more enjoyable:

When you are packing for a holiday, you need to ensure that all of the belongings packed in suitcases or bags aren’t too heavy. All luggage should also have wheels attached so they can easily be pulled along behind when needed

West Virginia

If you’re looking for a great place to go white-water rafting, be sure to head on down to West Virginia. One of the best places for rafting is the Gauley River, it’s about 105 miles long, eventually becoming part of New River, and forming Kanawha River. If you’re a thrill seeker there’s nothing quite like a white-water rafting trip to get the blood pumping.

I just got back from a much-needed vacation. I realized it was my first since the Bahamas in 2019, and that was just a long weekend. Having a week off gave me time to recharge and reconnect with a couple of my best friends. Of course travel depends on the safety of the situation, mandates, etc., but there are other places I want to go.

And this year, I promise myself I will use my vacation time.
