A graduate of prep school myself, I adored reading, and then watching Gossip Girl. While Blair was a clearly favorite, followed closely by Little J, I just took a quiz and I was disappointed to find out I’m actually a Serena. I can’t say I’m totally surprised (I’m not as mean-girl or conniving as B), I would much rather shop Blair’s closet than Serena’s. I have a bit more of an edge than Blair, but  I think of this little lace shift dress as my Blair Waldorf dress. Preppy, definitely not stuffy.
I had a bit of a Blair moment last week that I’m actually quite proud of. I had an interview for a really fun, exciting job. It went so incredibly well and I was feeling great… until the end of the interview and I was asked about salary.
I never feel comfortable here, in fact, I think I cut myself shorter than necessary coming to the job I have now. And I’m not alone. Apparently, according to surveys, 2.5 times more women than men said they feel “a great deal of apprehension” about negotiating. But I had a split second to say what I wanted, what I felt like I deserved. For the first time in my life, I truly feel like I did just that.
And then I was told that I was the perfect candidate, would be successful in the field I want to be in, and that she wished she could afford to hire me.
I left not feeling bad for myself, or that I’d wasted my time, but proud that I knew my worth and added tax. Every interview I have I feel like I’m one step closer to getting out of desk job land and into somewhere I can be creative and appreciated for my creativity and love of connecting people. Blair Waldorf would never sell herself short. Neither should I, and neither should you.
Segue– Blair Waldorf would probably also love Tulips. Yes, I was just there with Bubbles & Bloggers, but I actually won a contest which included a $100 gift certificate generously given by the restaurant. As I’ve said, Kendall and I have been trying to have more date nights since the wedding, and it’s about halfway between our offices. While we missed their dollar champagne (M-F 4-5) we did, in fact, make it for dollar oysters (M-F 4-7). I love oysters and Kendo doesn’t but I could guilt-free order them all I wanted.
There was nobody in the upstairs bar when we got there, which was kind of cool because we could take pictures and hang out with Kevin, bartender extraordinaire. It has a bit of a speakeasy vibe- shabby chic with cozy corners. I got the salmon toast + and amazing watermelon/ feta salad and Kendall got the steak. We also got complementary cupcakes for dessert and Kevin brought us off-the-menu Ben & Jerry’s as proverbial cherry on top.
We’ve decided that Tulips is going to be one of our go-to date spots, but it’s also super fun for a double-date or a group. Have you been yet? Do you love it as much as we do?
