Thanksgiving is barely a week away- the holidays are about to be in full swing. This year, Kendall and I are driving (yes, driving) to Baton Rouge after dinner at my parents’ house for a wedding on Saturday morning. It’s a 17 hour drive on a good day. Seeing as how it’s Thanksgiving weekend, I’m guessing we’re going to spend upwards of 40 hours in the car together next weekend. Jesus take the wheel.

Usually, Black Friday is a girls’ day situation with my mom and Auntie Steph. We go to Columbia Mall, early-ish, have lunch, shop until around 4. It’s relaxed but we definitely have a mission and a list. We never, ever shop on Thanksgiving Day.

Fist of all, it’s family time for us. Second of all, I cannot and will not go into a store staffed with employees who are not able to go home and spend time with their own families. It was hard enough on me working black Friday and the day after Christmas when I was in retail, but thankfully Pier One is one of the stores that shuts its doors completely for the holiday.

Check out my list of retailers who have pledged to stay closed on Thanksgiving, and consider giving your patronage to them!
