Weddings are something that take quite a bit of planning – despite that fact that it’s only one day, and not everyone has the need or desire to hire a wedding planner to do it for them, so if you’re recently engaged and are a bit overwhelmed with how to get started with planning your wedding, then in this post, we’re going to share with you exactly how to do that.

Set a budget:

Weddings are not cheap things to organize, but you’ll also want to ensure that the costs don’t get out of control as they can easily do sometimes, so the very first thing you’ll want to do is set a clear budget for your wedding.

The thing with a budget is that it will be unique to everyone, because not everyone has the same amount of money available and not everyone will want the same things, so your budget may be higher or lower than someone else’s, but it’s important to set your budget according to what works for you.

When setting your budget, it’s important to involve your future spouse in the process so that they’re not feeling excluded since this is a day that’s about both of you and since you’re likely going to be paying for it yourselves, it’s important that you keep communication around finances open and are able to agree on things like your wedding budget.

Look for a venue:

The next step is looking for the place you actually want to get married and have your reception. If you already know you want to get married in a specific church, then you can simply make an appointment to speak to the priest about this and book your wedding date, but the actual reception venue is going to take a little more planning. Many people now have the ceremony and reception in the same place, so it’s up to you if you want to do this, but hotels are often a popular place for wedding receptions, so if you want to start looking, you should make sure you do it as soon as possible after you know when you want to get married because there’s often a long waiting time of sometimes up to 2 years – sometimes more for really popular places.

Shop around:

When you book your wedding venue, they will often offer you packages that have many extras, such as décor, catering and other things included, so if you want to go with these packages you can sometimes save quite a bit of money rather than booking everything individually. However, there are always going to be other things you’ll be responsible for, such as flowers, entertainment and even drinks, and you should definitely spend some time shopping around for these. For example, speak to different florists, and look at places like AliveNetwork.com for good deals on entertainment.

Plan your guest list:

The guest list can actually be the biggest issue when planning a wedding. Most venues have a limited capacity, and often people can feel offended if someone from their side isn’t invited, but at the end of the day, you have to remember that each guest is a cost, so you should be strict with your guest list and only invite those you have a real relationship with.
