I was only gone from last Thursday through last night, but it feels like I just got back to DC after two weeks. Kendall is gone for a month doing Army Things, so we decided a while back that I would do the 14ish hour drive down to Mississippi with him, see some family, and go to New Orleans for a day with his sister, her fiance, and the cutest baby ever. There are many things I can brag about in our relationship, but traveling well for extended periods of time has to be at the top of the list.

I’d never been to Louisiana before, much less New Orleans, and let me tell you it did not disappoint- I just wish we had more than a day to spend there. I came up with this way to describe it: New Orleans is like if Savannah put on a pair of gold leggings and went out with the intent to only have ONE DRINK but we all know how that goes… basically it had the charm of Savannah but more noise.

It was a little overwhelming at first for me. I tend to get a little jumpy in big crowds, especially if I’m unfamiliar with the area. Luckily, for me, Kendall’s sister Brittneigh is the same way so she totally got it, especially with little Ryker in tow. But then I had a spiked lemonade, heard When the Saints Go Marching In from a street corner jazz band, and fell in love.

Since we had such limited time, Kendall had a few New Orleans things he really wanted me to experience. We HAD to go to Cafe Du Monde for Beignets and check out Bourbon Street (specifically Tropical Isle for Hand Grenades). My agenda was to check out the variety of art being sold seemingly everywhere. I actually found a piece I LOVED but Kendall did not so I may order a smaller version to put somewhere.

We really spent most of the day meandering and just enjoying, with no set agenda. I will say that pretty much everyone we came in contact with was super friendly and I really enjoyed the vibe of the city. I probably wasn’t the best blogger that day (I really don’t tend to be while I’m on vacation) but I cannot wait to go back and make more memories in a new favorite city!
