If you’re planning a wedding, it probably didn’t take long for you to start panicking about the budget. The average wedding in the US costs a whopping $26,000. If this figure is completely unattainable, don’t panic. It is possible to plan a beautiful day on a budget. If you don’t want to start married life with debts coming out of your ears, it’s perfectly understandable to want to save money on your big day. Here are some ideas that will ensure you enjoy a magical day without any money worries.

DIY it up

DIY weddings are all the rage, and it’s easy to see why. They save you a fortune, and you get the chance to personalize your day and put your stamp on your celebration. If you’re creative, and you have a team of willing helpers, there are all kinds of things you can do to save money without compromising on style and class. You can make your own favors, design and create a gorgeous cake and adorn the venue with DIY table plans, place names and centerpieces. You can also create your own photo booth, run your own disco with a carefully put together playlist and hang handmade, customized signs to point your guests in the right direction.

Consider your venue carefully

Some venues cost a lot more than others. If you have an idea in mind, but it’s out of your price range, think about ways you could achieve a similar outcome for less money. If you’ve fallen head over heels with a hotel on a lake, for example, why not look into putting a marquee up on the waterfront in a different location? You’ll have free reign when it comes to catering and stocking the bar, and the hire fees are likely to be much lower.

Shop around

When you’re shopping for wedding supplies, make sure you shop around for the best deals. Even if you only save a couple of dollars on each item, it will all add up. You can compare prices on everything from the hire of tables and chairs and bridesmaid gowns to wedding rings and cakes. If you’ve got suppliers in mind, but you’ve found better quotes, go back to them and ask them to match or beat the prices you’ve found elsewhere.

Avoid high season

The cost of getting married can go through the roof at certain times of the year. If you’re not particularly fussed about when you get married, and you’re more concerned with having the day of your dreams, try and avoid high season. Fees for venues, photographers, and entertainment tend to be highest during the summer and on holidays like the 4th July and New Year’s Eve.

Trim your guest list

If cost is a worry, trim down your guest list. If you can reduce the number of guests, you’ll save a lot of money.

Getting married doesn’t come cheap, but there are ways of driving down costs without giving up on your dream day.
