I’ve said this before, but I don’t think I’m the type of girl who could EH-VER have a totally capsule wardrobe. I absolutely love finding funky pieces for the perfect occasion that may not go with anything else that I own. I’m a sneaker and novelty purse junkie and I dream in tie-dye, neon, and leopard print.
However, I love the idea of a capsule wardrobe. I find myself grabbing familiar silhouettes in neutral colours for work. Today, I’m wearing a knotted black blouse with a leopard skater skirt, tights and boots. I’ve worn this combo dozens of times and I always feel great in it. So, yes, for work, I think I could do a capsule wardrobe.
It’s almost that time of year where our closets need a refresh. Time to send those sweaters you didn’t wear all winter to ThredUP and re-evaluate what you have and what you need. I love the idea of the hanger method- turn all your hangers the wrong way around and at the end of the season see what you didn’t wear. You don’t need those pieces anymore. Give them a new home. Once your closet is a little clearer, you can see what’s working for you- colours and styles that make you feel awesome. See what goes together and if you have any holes. I found a great checklist for a springtime business casual capsule:

What works for one person is not going to always work for another. I’ve been tending to wear warmer colours: camels and warm blushes and burgundies. I have a hard time with silvers, more blue-pinks, and mints. I also virtually never wear pants to work, except on casual Friday, where can wear nice jeans. And button up shirts are difficult for *ahem* busty gals like me.
So if I was to start a capsule wardrobe, based on the advice above, here’s what mine would look like:
