If you know my mom at all, you’ve probably called her Mama, Mama D, Mommy, or Aunt Mathy. She’s everyone’s best friend – especially mine. When I first got engaged and was picking out my bridesmaids, she told me she wanted to do something special for my extended family of sisters and her extra daughters. Her original thought was to have a high tea at the Four Seasons in Georgetown… but apparently they haven’t done that in years. They actually recommended the St. Regis.
We took one afternoon to scoot over there and check it out. While the two of us didn’t have the full high tea, the biscuits with cream and service there was enough to seal the deal. The tea for my special girls was held the same weekend as my shower and bachelorette party. Between two rather classy events, my closest gal-pals and I partied it up at Mission for my favorite margs and quesadillas then hit Peyote for karaoke. It was a long weekend, but boy was it special (and exactly what I wanted!)
Because of my rather large wedding party, some extra ladies, and close family members that happened to be in town, we took up two large tea service tables in the lobby. What I found really cool is that contrary to the cool blues and greys of the Mayflower, where we held our wedding reception, The St. Regis’ lobby is rich red and leopard print and gold.
We were able to pick between an herbal and a black tea, dozens of pretty little bites, and even had a champagne toast to top it off! I’m getting a little emotional typing this because I’m realizing it’s pretty rare that I can have all the people I love together in one spot. My friends are truly an extension of my family and it was amazing to have some of them meet for the first time.
I would highly recommend the St. Regis for their afternoon tea. It was such an elegant and sweet way to end one of the best weekends of my life. She also made us the most precious goody bags- with special tea, spa treatments, and cherry blossom themed gifties. Thank you to Mama D. for spoiling me and the rest of your girls.
