One thing that blogging has given me is an amazing network of friends + local businesses with a lot of overlap between the two. Last week, I attended the Winter Glam Wonderland, hosted by Dani of Blonde in the District and Bianca of F.N.2.S. Artistry at Bourbon. Aside from being a great evening out with some of my most glam pals, the event raised close to $1000 for My Sister’s Place DC, part of an interactive community committed to eradicating domestic violence.
Seeing a dear friend host such a successful event meant a lot to me, but I got extra warm fuzzies because I knew vendors present as well. It was amazing to see small, thriving, local businesses present to support their friends and a great cause.
I walked into the room, got a hug from Amanda of Whistle & Wild. We both got drinks and glitter in our hair from the Illusions table (my DC salon), and I hopped off the stool to check in with Tanya at Refine. We were all sipping and shopping and supporting the night away. I mean, you know it’s a good Thursday when you go home and your boyfriend has to ask you to wash the glitter out of your hair before bed… and then you fall asleep on the couch.
There were a couple new (and new to me!) bloggers there as well that I hope make their way to a Bubbles + Bloggers event. Our little network is growing strong and I’ve made so many new friends this past year. I really owe it all to Dani, and want to thank her not only for co-hosting a wonderful event but for starting a mini-movement in the DMV. Community over competition, always. I wish I had gotten a picture with all of my lovely ladies, but alas, it was not meant to be that night, even though so many of us were there!
Thank you, again, Bianca + Dani. I hope this event becomes an annual tradition!
