As the year winds down, I find myself craving softness in every sense of the word. Soft clothes. Soft lighting. Soft plans. I have two days of work left, and then—finally—I get to exhale. Not the rushed, half-present kind of exhale, but the deep, intentional one that only comes when your to-do list stops screaming and your nervous system gets permission to stand down.
We talk a lot about hustle, about pushing through, about “finishing strong.” But what we don’t talk about enough is how rest is a privilege—and one that doesn’t need to be extravagant or expensive to be deeply restorative. You don’t need a luxury spa appointment or a weekend away to feel taken care of. Sometimes, the most grounding thing you can do is stay home, turn the world down a few notches, and choose yourself for an evening.
An at-home spa night is my favorite way to mark the transition from doing to being. It’s a ritual, not a checklist. It’s less about productivity and more about presence. And it’s proof that treating yourself doesn’t have to cost much—it just has to be intentional.

Setting the Tone: Cozy First, Always
Before anything else, I change my clothes. This is non-negotiable. Slipping into something soft tells my brain we’re done performing for the day.
I love a matching set for this moment, especially something that feels like elevated loungewear instead of “I gave up.” A Long Sleeve Cozy Alpine Knit Bouclé Crewneck paired with Mid-Rise Cozy Knit Ankle Pull-On Pants is exactly that sweet spot. Plush, warm, and forgiving—perfect for curling up later with a blanket and not feeling restricted. There’s something comforting about being wrapped in fabric that feels like a hug, especially when the weather is colder and the year itself feels heavy.
Once I’m dressed for comfort, I dim the lights, light a candle, and put my phone on Do Not Disturb. This night isn’t for multitasking. It’s for unwinding.
The Bath: Washing the Year Off
If you have access to a tub, this is where the spa night really begins. A bath isn’t just about getting clean—it’s about signaling to your body that it’s safe to slow down.
I start by filling the tub with warm water and adding Dr Teal’s Epsom Salt Magnesium Soak – Relax & Relief with Eucalyptus & Spearmint. Magnesium is known for easing sore muscles, and after a long year of holding tension in places I didn’t even realize, this step feels almost medicinal. The eucalyptus and spearmint create that classic spa scent—fresh, grounding, and deeply calming.
For extra indulgence, I layer in Dr Teal’s Sleep Foaming Bath with Melatonin & Essential Oils. The foam makes the bath feel luxurious, while the melatonin-infused formula encourages relaxation without being overwhelming. It’s not about knocking yourself out—it’s about gently nudging your body toward rest.
I stay in the bath longer than I usually allow myself to. I don’t rush. I let my thoughts drift. Sometimes I reflect on the year—what worked, what didn’t, what I’m proud of surviving. Other times, I just stare at the ceiling and enjoy the stillness.
Exfoliation & Cleanse: Starting Fresh
Mid-bath, I reach for Tree Hut Sugar Body Scrub – Merry Mint Shea. There’s something symbolic about exfoliating at the end of the year—literally shedding old layers. The sugar scrub smooths the skin without being harsh, and the minty scent is refreshing without feeling cold. It wakes up your senses just enough to feel renewed.
After exfoliating, I cleanse with Tree Hut Foaming Gel Body Wash – Merry Mint, which leaves my skin feeling clean but not stripped. The combination of exfoliation and gentle cleansing makes my skin feel brand new, like a reset button I didn’t know I needed.
Post-Bath Care: Locking in Softness
Once I step out of the bath, I take my time drying off. This isn’t the frantic, late-for-something towel dry. This is slow, deliberate care.
While my skin is still slightly damp, I apply Palmers Coconut Oil Body Oil. Applying oil on damp skin helps lock in moisture, and this one leaves a subtle sheen without feeling greasy. I follow it with Palmer’s Brazilian Coco Cream, focusing on elbows, knees, and anywhere that feels tight or dry. The scent is warm and comforting, like a tropical vacation filtered through winter coziness.
This layering method—oil first, cream second—keeps my skin soft well into the next day. It’s one of those small acts of care that pays dividends long after the spa night is over.
Hair & Scalp: Don’t Forget the Roots
Spa nights aren’t just about skin. They’re about total-body care, including the parts we usually rush through.
I massage Pacifica Rosemary Split End and Scalp Treatment Serum into my scalp and through the ends of my hair. Rosemary is known for stimulating the scalp, and the act of massaging it in feels grounding and almost meditative. I twist my hair into a loose bun and let the treatment work its magic while I move on to skincare.
Skincare: Quiet Luxury at Home
For my face, I start with a Peach & Lily Glass Skin Ginseng Collagen Mask. Sheet masks force you to slow down—you can’t do much while wearing one, and that’s kind of the point. The ginseng and collagen leave my skin plump, hydrated, and glowing, but more importantly, they give me permission to sit still for ten uninterrupted minutes.
After removing the mask, I seal everything in with Bubble Skincare Overnight Hydrating Sleep Mask. Overnight masks are one of my favorite skincare steps because they work while you rest—no effort required beyond applying them.
I finish with Fourth Ray Alice Pure Madness Lip Mask, generously layered. There’s something so comforting about going to bed knowing you’ll wake up with soft lips, soft skin, and a softer mindset.
The Wind-Down: Letting Yourself Rest
Once everything is applied and absorbed, I slip back into my cozy knit set, crawl into bed, and resist the urge to scroll. Maybe I read a few pages of a book. Maybe I just lay there and let my thoughts wander. There’s no pressure to make this moment aesthetic or productive.
Relaxing is a privilege—but it’s also something we deserve to practice, especially at the end of a long year. An at-home spa night isn’t about perfection. It’s about presence. It’s about acknowledging that you showed up, you did your best, and now it’s time to rest.
As the year closes, this is my reminder—to myself and to you—that slowing down doesn’t mean falling behind. Sometimes, it’s exactly what you need to move forward feeling whole again.
