My dad used to actually bribe me to drink water. With apple juice. I could have a glass of juice after I drank some water. I just wasn’t interested in anything without a taste. Pass me a Capri Sun, please! To be honest, I really didn’t love drinking water until college, and I can’t even imagine being like that now. I usually have a tumbler full of ice cold water by my side, and try to drink 64 ounces of water at work daily.
I’m not going to pretend that the people reading my blog don’t know why it’s important to stay hydrated. I will say that I’ve seen signs of dehydration run the gamete from dull-looking skin to one very scary night in the hospital with Kendall. Just… drink your water, y’all. Your body will thank you.

If you need a little flavor to help keep yourself hydrated, I don’t blame you! I got a really cool pitcher at my bridal shower with a filter in the middle to fill up with fruit or teas or whatever. This one isn’t exactly the same, but its close. I like to make tea on the weekend for the week- right now I have a nice pitcher of Celestial Seasonings Herbal Tea in Tangerine Orange Zinger. I tend to go herbal so I have have as much as I want in the evening without worrying about caffeine. When my mom makes her iced tea, she typically uses one regular tea bag, two herbal fruity teas, and whatever sliced fruit is on hand.
Water truly does hydrate the best, even when compared to herbal teas, and I actually prefer fresh fruit water. I found a whole big list of detox water recipes, but my favorite is strawberry cucumber! It’s just a hint of sweet and very refreshing. Strawberries have been shown to improve heart health, help with blood sugar control and even cancer prevention. They are loaded with vitamins and contain very high levels of antioxidants called polyphenols. Cucumbers help the digestive system by removing accumulated toxins and waste materials from the blood and gut and are also a natural diuretic, meaning it will help your body eliminate more toxins.
Just remember that if you’re going to make your own flavored water to use fresh fruit and herbs (like mint) or teas and please, PLEASE don’t put essential oils in your water.
My last tip is to get yourself a cute water bottle. My favorite tumblers are sparkly and monogrammed. Obviously.
