Transitional dressing, in theory, is fun.
In practice, it turns into “what the heck am I wearing today because it’s currently 60 with 90% humidity, my office is freezing, but it’ll be 80 by the time I leave work.”
I have a few work dresses that are in heavy, heavy rotation. The Elbow Sleeve Ponte Sheath Dress in multiple colors comes to mind, a black ruffle hem dress from SheIn, and a few cuties from Loft. Honestly, I used to shop at Loft A LOT more than I do now. Nothing wrong with them, but I want a little HAM with the credit card. Their stuff has staying power though and you might have seen this dress elsewhere previously on the blog.
The way I try to dress for those in-between times when it’s fall but also hot and humid is by staying in the right color zone. Even thought I was wearing Jack Rogers sandals (I keep flats under my desk in case a client comes into the office or something), they were black. My little shift dress- also black. The kimono cardi, a magical find from LuLaRoe, is super soft, keeps me warm in the office, but the short sleeves make it comfortable for muggy weather. (Full disclosure though- I did shove it in my backpack as soon as we were done taking pictures.)
That all being said, once it actually does get cooler finally, I can put tights and booties, and even a thin turtleneck, with the dress to truly make it a transitional piece. I know this because I’ve done it many times.
Nothing in this outfit is recent, but I’ve linked some cute Loft dresses for work below.
