Many people dream of getting married from a young age. We are sold beautiful, dream weddings by Disney princes and princesses. We watch programs on the television about lavish big days with horses, carriages, fireworks and a cake with more slices than any wedding party could get through. We make plans for when we meet the right person, filling up Pinterest boards with dresses, veils, cravats and buttonholes. The problem? When it comes to the big day, many weddings lack individuality. Of course they’re beautiful, but follow trends that right now are all over the place and may be dated in the future. So how should we go about making our special day truly unique and something for everyone to remember?
Unique Wedding Ring Set
The Ring
Popular engagement rings change with the times. Trends in advertising will see most women with similar rocks adorning their left hand. So, rather than going with something similar to your friends, why not try something a little different? Think about what you like. There are so many different facets to a ring that you’d only need to tweak the slightest feature to make yours stand out from the crowd. Think of different cuts, settings, bases. You might even opt for colored diamond engagement rings. These will be a definite talking point when people ask to see the rock.
The Cake
You might be tempted to opt for the traditional towered fruit cake with white icing. But what if you’re not a fan of stodgy, heavy desserts laden with raisins? Fruit cake isn’t the only option. If you’re more of a fan of chocolate, get a chocolate cake. Victoria sponge? Go for an elaborate take on the much-loved classic. This is your day, so your cake should be something that you enjoy eating.
The Transport
There are so many modes of transport to get you to your wedding. Classic cars, horse and carriages, maybe even by air if you’re feeling brave and are splashing out. If I could pick any car in the world for my wedding, it would be a classic surf Woody because I used to have one as did my grandfather. Choose transport that has a sentimental meaning for you and your partner. Or something to make a statement that will turn heads as you arrive.
The Bouquet
You can get really experimental with bouquets. Choose a flower that matches your color scheme. You don’t have to stick to one type of flower either. Mix and match to create a spectacular arrangement. I’m a big fan of all the spring flowers- cherry blossoms, daffodils, tulips, etc. Avoid flowers like lilies, as their pollen can cause stains against your dress. You might like to have arrangements of similar flowers placed on tables for the reception too. This will create a sense of continuity throughout the event.
The Catering
You and your guests are going to be hungry as the day goes on. Choose your favorite food and allow everyone to get a taste of what makes you smile. Whether this is something as simple as fish and chips, your favorite curry dish, Caribbean cuisine, or a high-end gourmet plate. Make sure that there is plenty of variety and options that are suitable for alternative dietary requirements.
