As I said in my post yesterday, I was not the best blogger on the go during my trip from Mississippi to home with Kendall, but I think that the quality time I got to spend with my boyfriend and our loved ones was well worth the lack of attention to my camera. We saw WAY more than I documented with my camera, but I was taking a lot of snaps + Insta pics as I went.

While there weren’t a whole lot of pics on my camera, I wanted to share what I have. I wish that I’d taken more pictures, especially in Savannah, but hindsight is 20/20 and that just means we have to go back!

img_0018 img_0019 Nope- we weren’t in NYC. This Statue of Liberty Replica is in Birmingham, AL and it’s 1/5 of the size of the original. Kendall actually found an unlocked door at the base and a ladder going up into the statue, but I refused to let him climb it lest he get arrested/ hurt. I will probably never live that down.

img_0021 img_0022This my be my new favorite breakfast spot of all time, and it was nearly empty because we were there relatively early in the middle of the week. The Funky Brunch Cafe is not only the cutest (love the mod decor!) but if you’re a pancake lover, you can use the griddle in the middle of the table to flip your own flapjacks!

img_0023This needs no comment. I want this tattooed on me. I mean, not really, but COME ON! I didn’t go in the store, but obviously felt compelled to snap this.

img_0054 img_0055 img_0057 Ok. This. This was a mistake. BIG mistake. When I was little, we stopped here on the way to see my grandfather race one of his cars. Apparently, and I had forgotten all about this, but in one of the stores there were a bunch of masks hanging. Toddler Caroline got spooked and according to my mother, “you ran out of the store and almost into the highway. Why do you even want to go back there that place is gross?”

I should have listened. Between Myrtle Beach and Raleigh, Kendall humored me and we stopped into this carnival from hell known as South of the Border. As soon as we got out of the car I panicked. There was a sinister energy permeating through the air with the out of key carousel music coming from the (closed? abandoned?) rides on the other end of the parking lot. The plexiglass statues were somehow both sad and terrifying. And weirdly enough, the horror fan in me wishes I had it in me to ever go back. It would make for good pictures, at least.

Since I was pretty awful at taking pictures, I also just wanted to let you know about some of the amazing places we went in Savannah:

  • The Olde Pink House– They have shrimp + grits SUSHI!? Done.
  • 17Hundred90– we stayed here but we want to go back for dinner. It’s supposedly haunted, but we didn’t have any creepy experiences, just a gorgeous room!
  • Bohemian Hotel– great for a drink on the roof but we will def be looking into staying here for our next visit
  • You can have open containers in Savannah- head to Wet Willies for a frozen drinky pre-sightseeing
  • Go to The Collins Quarter for their Avocado toast + Vietnamese coffee
  • Kendall and I could have spent an entire day in V&J Duncan going through the “vast collection of old engravings, mezzotints, lithographs, photographs, old books and new Savannah books.” We each picked out an antique print for only $10 a pop for our new place.
  • Take a tour. I don’t care which one. I learned so many fun facts on our horse-drawn tour and it kind of set us up for the rest of our day. That was really fun, but if you don’t like horses they have a ton of walking and trolley tours, even ghost tours at night!

Now that I’m looking at this I’m extra sad that we didn’t get a whole lot of time in Savannah. I seriously can’t wait to go back, but I have to thank my love for letting us make this two day stop on our travels. He’s really an amazing road trip partner, and I find it pretty impressive that we made it relatively easily 1500+ miles in a car together.
