I’ll be honest, I think I’m past the age where I think festivals are fun. To quote a good guy friend of mine: “festivals are a great idea until you get there and it’s hot and crowded and you want to go home.” I will always love my Warped Tour, but that’s just one day. And I’m not sure how I used to think I could actually travel with the tour. I did Firefly a few years ago, and did have fun, but the crowds and heat and not having a shower was a lot.

But now we’re entering festival season, and I’m getting a little nostalgic! How many of us have been waiting to kick back and get lost in festival living? If you’ve never done it before, now may be the year to try. It’s a fantastic way to get away without going far. Though tickets aren’t cheap, they’re cheaper than flights to somewhere exotic. And, you’re sure to have an experience unlike any that have come before. There’s no denying that you’ll have to get down and dirty during your time away. And, it will involve tents. But, all is not lost. Even those with an aversion to camping can enjoy festival life. All it takes is a little preparation. It can also help to keep yourself looking glamorous for the duration. Here are a few ways you can ensure you stay isn’t bogged down in the mud.

TAKE A SUITCASE, BUT PACK LIGHT

Surprisingly few of us consider that we may need a suitcase during a festival. It doesn’t seem like the place. In fact, most attendees will have nothing more than on them than a rucksack of crumpled clothes. But, we think it may help first timers to take a suitcase along. After your first day or two, you won’t relish the idea of putting on crumpled clothes. That’s when field fever can set in and ruin the rest of your experience. Taking a suitcase means that you can keep your clothes neat and ready for each day. It also means you can keep things organized. Piles of clothes could stress you out during the later stages of your festival fun.

That said, it’s important you don’t go over the top. You are going to be living in a tent. So, you want to take a small suitcase. That means you need to choose your outfits carefully. We’ve all seen the festival fashions that look amazing, but they aren’t always practical. Pack an outfit for each day, but don’t pack unnecessary extras that will take up too much space. One pair of shoes, for example, should last your whole stay.

REMEMBER YOUR REGIME

Festival life is different from anything you’ll have experienced before. You may find that you’re having too much fun to follow your usual beauty regime. Or, you might find that you let things slide because you don’t think you can keep on top of the issue. We’re here to tell you that sticking to your beauty regime is essential. Not doing this could do significant damage to your skin, not to mention that it’ll leave you feeling worse. If you keep on top of things, you can stay feeling fresher for longer. It’ll make all the difference to your mentality!

The most important point to note is that you should take your makeup off every night. This will help your skin and will ensure you don’t look a mess in the morning. While you’re at it, you might also want to keep up your regular skincare routine. Remember that you’re packing light, though. Take only essential products with you. Remember, too, that you’ll need to find a way to remove your hair. Underarm hair and fuzzy legs will leave you feeling more like the wooly mammoth than a glamorous babe. A hair laser removal machine might be your best bet here. They’re quick, easy to use, and don’t require water. And, let’s be honest, water isn’t going to be easy to come by. There certainly won’t be any showers around. Speaking of which…

STAY CLEAN WITHOUT SHOWERING

Feeling dirty is sure to ruin your experience. We all know that feeling when we can imagine nothing better than a nice long wash. But, that won’t be possible when you’re in a field. (Or the showers could be worse than not showering, as with Firefly) So, you need to find ways to stay clean without showering. You should leave your last shower as late as possible before you set off. That way, you’re starting on clean footing. But, even this step isn’t going to save you in the later stages.

It’s worth taking along a few bits to help you stay fresh. Wet wipes will make all the difference, so stock up on a few packs. They may not be the same as a proper wash, but they’ll help a little. You could even rub shower gel into them and get a bit of a lather. That way, you’ll smell fresher, too! Dry shampoo will also be a lifesaver. It’s hard to feel glamorous with greasy hair. A few sprays of this and that won’t be such a problem.
