I have some exciting news, you guys! I have finally, officially, picked an apartment to move back to DC! Due to timing reasons, I’ll be putting in my application this week, but there’s no foreseeable reason that I won’t be able to get the place I want, the place I have fallen in love with.
As any of my readers and all of my friends know, I have been collecting things to put in my apartment since before I found it. The bedroom in my parents’ basement, half of their storage room, the closet in the spare office at work, and a storage unit are all filled with new furniture, stuff from my old apartment, and bits and pieces for decor. I have never decorated an entire place all on my own before, and I am so freakin’ excited to see the finished product of everything I’ve pulled together.
In my hunt, there’s been on newer (to me) motif that I’ve loved: terrazzo. Terrazzo is actually a building material that was created when resourceful Venetian mosaic workers discovered a way to reuse marble remnants. With odd-size chips, they began to build terraces around their living quarters. While it’s still used today, it’s also evolved into a pattern.
I’m working on not being too matchy-matchy, I am adding a couple terrazzo pieces to the mix. I already have the pillows, and I might do the a little lamp on my dresser or something. I have seen a LOT of cute terrazzo stuff while virtually window shopping or while exploring Target.
