Aside from big old chunky statement necklaces that I can throw on on my way out the door and the silver bracelet with Candace’s initials that I never take off, I’m honestly not a huge jewelry person. My ears are super sensitive so I wear earrings maybe once a week, and rings are for special occasions. That was, of course, until Kendall proposed to me with the yummiest rose gold and morganite ring.
I’ve honestly never been one for diamonds. I prefer colored stones. Aquamarine, rainbow topaz, sapphires in every color of the rainbow- those are the stones that catch my eye. I mentioned it in this post, but if I did end up with a diamond engagement ring I’d have wanted heart-shaped and yellow. Something a little bit non-traditional.
Poor Kendall (with assistance from my friend Tiffany) had to pick a ring for me based on several mind-changes. And he did an excellent job. I would have “checked yes” to a ring pop tbh, but he found something delicate and pink that fits my personality perfectly and was pretty much a combination of every ring I’ve ever loved. He said he specifically picked my ring because from the side it looks like a crown. Well done, sir.
We picked his wedding ring next. He wanted something unique too but honestly wasn’t quite sure exactly what. One funny thing that happens when you start planning a wedding is that your targeted ads are all wedding. Manly Bands popped up on Facebook for me one morning. I’m pretty sure Kendall picked his King Arthur ring almost immediately. We ordered their sizer and both of us used it to figure out our size for our bands. I gave him his ring for Christmas and included the awesome Manly Birch Box for him to keep it safe. Manly Bands has some really unique rings- even some made of meteorite! They have price points for every budget, and although Kendall wanted something strong and unique, he loved the comfort factor too!
My wedding ring was honestly the most difficult to decide on. I though I’d had it picked out for months, but when we went to order it, it was gone! I knew I wanted something dainty, also rose gold, and not an infinity band (because I’d read that it’s easier for lose diamonds that way).
After a couple weeks of searching, I found the sweetest ring from JSVConcept. We opted for five diamonds on the rose gold setting, but I was pleasantly surprised at how well the rose gold matched my engagement ring! I wasn’t super strict on the stone (it could have been white sapphire or more morganite or even a man made stone honestly) but I did know that I wanted at least 14 karat gold, not gold-filled or gold-plated. I wear this ring almost every day, and I didn’t want it turning my fingers green! I keep mine safe in a Mrs. Box from my Aunt. I love it and mine is actually monogrammed with a C! (The big ol’ ring above is my mom’s wedding ring- my “something borrowed”)
There’s a lot to take into account when you’re picking your wedding bands/ engagement bands, but I think the most important factor is is timelessness- and I don’t mean for the world, but for you! What do you see yourself wearing every day for the rest of your life? Rose gold is having a moment, but it’s been my favorite metal for years! On that same note, Kendall and I also both have plastic rings for the gym/ pool/ beach/ cleaning. Mine were so inexpensive that I kept my fave and actually gave the rest away. Kendall just got this one– it runs a little big and wasn’t as shiny as he’d hoped but for under $10 it does the job.
What did you look for in an engagement/ wedding ring? And do you have a “fake” one for when you don’t want to risk damage to the real thing?
