I’ve never been much of a business traveler. Back when I worked for a financial advisory firm, the most exciting trip I ever took was to Toronto for our Christmas party—a festive jaunt, but hardly what you’d call frequent flyer status. Fast forward to my new(ish) role, and things are looking a little different. Now, I get the opportunity to assist with conferences, visit different locations, and potentially participate in out-of-town Community Days. It’s an exciting change, but one that called for a serious luggage upgrade.

Let me paint you a picture of my previous travel gear: a rose gold rollaway suitcase I received as a wedding gift (RIP, as it finally cracked after plenty of adventures) and an adorable pink Sloan Ranger overnight bag adorned with woody wagons. While I absolutely loved that bag, it wasn’t exactly screaming “professional.” Plus, the company seems to have vanished, taking that print with it.

So, with a travel-packed 2025 calendar on the horizon—four confirmed conferences, likely six, trips to a manufacturing plant a few hours away, and some potential Community Days—I needed to revamp my travel arsenal. And while I’m all about pink, glitter, and sunshine, I also wanted to strike a balance between fun and professional. After all, the goal is to look like I’m heading to a work conference, not a sleepover party!

Spoiler alert: my director’s luggage is also pink. Great minds think alike, right?

Work Travel Tips for the Stylish Professional

In addition to having the right gear, I’ve picked up a few tips to make work travel smoother and more enjoyable:

  1. Plan Outfits Strategically: Stick to a color palette (mine’s usually pink and neutral tones) so you can mix and match pieces easily.
  2. Pack Snacks: Conferences can be long, and sometimes you just need a quick pick-me-up. Protein bars, trail mix, and dried fruit are lifesavers.
  3. Stay Organized: Use packing cubes to keep your suitcase tidy and make it easier to locate items quickly.
  4. Invest in Quality Travel Accessories: It’s worth spending a little extra on items that will last and make your travels more comfortable.
  5. Self-Care is Key: Don’t forget to pack items that make you feel at home, whether it’s your favorite tea, a good book, or a comfy slippers.

Why Style and Functionality Matter

For me, business travel isn’t just about getting from point A to point B—it’s an extension of my professional persona. By choosing luggage and accessories that reflect my personality while keeping things functional, I feel more confident and prepared to tackle whatever the trip throws my way.

Whether I’m heading to a manufacturing plant or hosting a conference, I want my travel setup to strike the perfect balance between girly glam and professional polish. And honestly? Knowing my director is also rocking pink luggage makes me feel even more empowered to own my style.

Looking Ahead

As I gear up for a year filled with travel, I’m excited about the opportunities to grow, learn, and explore new places. Having the right gear and a few go-to tips has already made a huge difference, and I can’t wait to put them to the test on my upcoming trips.
