I’m very lucky in that my dad love, love, loves to make food for the people he loves. His kitchen is his domain, and I ate very well (and healthfully) in the two years I lived at home with my parents. In that time, I was also detoxing from unhealthy choices, food and emotional, from my marriage. I ended up losing 15 or so pounds just from not eating processed food and taking better care of what I was putting in my body.
I want to keep that going now that I’m back in DC. Now that I have my own kitchen to play in, I definately don’t want to fall into a pattern of takeout and delivery. I’m generally trying to be more mindful of what I consume, and Imperfect Foods has been a great addition to my routine.
It’s a a totally customizeable experience, which is important to me. On Fridays, I can start working on my order for the following Wednesday. I start with a full cart of what they suggest for me, but I can add or take away anything. Generally how I shop is I pick ingredients one big dish to make for the week (this week it was vegitarian chili and rice), fresh fruit that I cut up for easy snacking, a couple snacks (pretzels, baby carrots, etc.), eggs if they’re available, and then add pantry staples until I hit the free shipping mark. Just for reference, I spend about $50 a week on groceries. This also cuts back on impulse buys since I’m not tempted by like… Lucky Charms and ramen noodles.
I’ve also tried things with Imperfect Foods that I may not have tried otherwise. I love the Petit Pot vegan chocolate pudding for a sweet treat, but I am not a fan of oat milk cheddar cheese. Big fan of Impossible ground beef and Bitchin’Â Sauce, which is a vegan dip made of almonds. Think hummus but a little creamier.
Not only do I get my healthy grocieries delivered on Wednesday afternoons for maximum convienience, but Imperfect Foods is good for the planet too, reducing food waste. A lot of what I purchase has the “flaw” of being surplus. Other “imperfections” may be an experation date that is too close out for a grocery store to take (but not expired), or a funky shape. I can also recycle the box it comes in, and return the cold packs and liners to them directly for reuse!
You’re also able to skip a delivery altogether. They really make it so easy! I highly recommend for anyone who wants to be more mindful of their grocery consumption!
This post is not sponsored, however, I have included my referal link. You get $80 in free groceries ($20 off each of your first four orders). I get $30 for each friend that joins too!
