Remember last year when Bubbles & Bloggers took a field trip to my old neck of the woods to get some of that country fall goodness you can’t get in the city? Well, when we were at Rocklands, I picked up some farm fresh pork for Kendall and now we’re spoiled and the stuff from the grocery store just doesn’t cut it. Since this past weekend was so gorgeous, we decided to take a little field trip of our own.

Content warning: if you’re a vegetarian who has a problem with my purchasing farm-fresh meat, you might want to stop reading. Nothing graphic, I promise, but I do love eating meat, and I’m a huge fan of buying local.

I didn’t realize this because last fall we made other stops, but Rocklands Farm is only about 40 minutes outside of DC, with a gorgeous drive to get there. There’s plenty of parking, and the farm isn’t so massive that you feel overwhelmed- everything for visitors is pretty much contained. Because it was such a beautiful day, there were a ton of families enjoying the sunshine, wine, and nibbles from the market- lots of littles running around.

Since we were going to my parents’ for dinner after, I picked up a bottle of their Sandstone to take my dad, and some fresh flowers for my mom. You can check out all of their wines here.

Kendall had never been to Rocklands before so we carefully took our time selecting the cuts of pork to take home. While they don’t deliver, you can order your meats/ poultry online and select a designated drop-off spot to pick up your product. Another option is to sign up for the Rocklands Meat CSA, which is a club for pasture-raised, grass-fed & finished, nutrient-dense and humanely-raised meats. The meat CSA share includes a monthly selection of a diverse variety of cuts, flash-frozen & vacuum sealed, of beef, pork, lamb and chicken, varying month to month.  We considered it, but it’s so nice to get out of the city occasionally and hand-select whatever it is you want that I don’t know if we’ll end up doing that.

I clearly decided to go all country girl for mu outfit. I may be mostly city-fied, but I do love my fresh air and wide open spaces from time to time.

I cannot stress this enough, and I’ve said it before: if I could only wear one style for the rest of my life, striped cotton dresses would be it. And they would likely all be from Old Navy. I’ve honestly been wearing Old Navy striped dresses for the past two days. Not only are they easy AF and hold up forever, but I can consistently slip into one and Kendall will be like, “you look beautiful!” No fuss, but much reward.

And I’ve always been a dress girl. I think it would confuse people when I was younger because while most girls opted for jeans or shorts on out-of-uniform days, I reached for a sun dress. After swim team practice- same thing. I’ve just always felt the most myself in a dress. I may not always know how to properly girl, complaining about heels most female would laugh at, but a good dress will win over jeans every time. Pair with a sweet pair of flats or a cute sneaker- I’m set. It’s my uniform, and I’m sticking with it.

I was born the day before St. Patrick’s Day, so I’ve combined the two holidays since I can remember. It started with green glittery sprinkled shamrock cookies for my birthday snack in grade school and evolved into (for the past couple of years) sharing a hat at The Madhatter with some close pals on the 17th. This year, I really did attempt to cancel my birthday, which is very unlike me, because I was feeling pretty overwhelmed. But I’m kind of surrounded by a ton of amazing people that wouldn’t let that happen. My parents, my friends- everyone I know has made this month special. I even got to see my favorite band and hang out with them for a bit after the show- that was a present to myself.

Parts of my look today were presents as well. The green dress is from my 21st birthday (edit: no it is not? I def got this dress for my 24th or 25th.) and has obviously become my St. Patrick’s Day dress. The jewelry set from Baublebar was a gift from two of my best friends and the tumbler was from my Little- one of my coworkers calls me kitten and I needed a new tumbler when the lid on my trusty giant mason jar broke. Perfect gift, perfect timing.

Anyway, it’s been a great March, and I’m feeling so lucky.

I think if anyone could pinpoint one specific look that is my style, this would be it: t shirt dress, denim jacket, flats (flat boots, sneakers, loafers- anything flat) and a big old bag to toss my life in. I wanted to get one more wear out of this Jack Wills dress before it got too cold, and even Monday was pushing it, but as I was bustling around my office I just realized that I felt me.

Proportion-wise, it’s sometimes hard for me to find clothes because I’m short but big on top. The t-shirt dress seems to be made specifically for me. I can show off my legs, which I love, and cover my bust and shoulders, which I don’t love so much. The best part? It also happens to be Kendall’s favorite style on me, probably because I feel so confident in t-shirt dresses. The navy + white stripes on this one keep it classic, but I also will never ever think I have enough solids.

The denim jacket is like a security blanket to me. When the jacket I made in 8th grade covered in patches from Hot Topic tragically ripped last Easter, I wasn’t sure what I was going to do. That jacket saw me through all of high school, and much to my sorority sisters’ dismay, all of college. It covered my problematic shoulders/ arms and, in my opinion, it went with just about everything besides other denim. No Canadian tuxedo for me, thanks. The replacement is softer and hasn’t been “patched” yet, but it’s still my go-to jacket for in between weather and if I want to cover up a little with zero effort. I turn to my denim like most women my age turn to their leather.

The flats actually came to me in the form of a message on Pinterest from one of my best girls.  The day I got them H&M was having a sale so I ended up with two pairs of flats for $11 or something outrageous. My other pair was last seen here. You’d think that flimsy flats would be hell on the city-dweller with high arches, but these are actually some of the most comfy flats I’ve ever owned. The pink grr adds that’s little bit of kitschy Caroline that my friends have come to expect- and is totally the reason that B Hy sent them my way!

I’m sorry that I’m not at all sorry that I’m rocking my Alice bag again (last seen here). Part of it, honestly, is just laziness. Once I get going with a good bag it’s hard for me to want to switch purses. This one has been amazing this fall and worked with this (basically neutral) outfit.

I think it’s ok to strip down and get back to basics. That’s also why I love my grapefruit Perrier. I’m not big on soda and I haven’t been one for booze recently, but dang I love my bubbles! No, this post wasn’t sponsored by Perrier or anything, I just love having a guilt-free but fun drink I can throw into my big purse and sip on if I need a little lift without the calories.

How do you strip down to basics?

Ok, so you know how I was on the hunt for burgundy booties? I had ordered several pairs to try- open-toed, close-toed, suede, leather, etc. Nothing worked! I ended up returning them all. I don’t know if it was my high arches or my narrow but long feet but everything felt off. I gave up and figured, “ok. I’ll order this pair from Amazon. They’re cheap and if they don’t fit, whatever I’ll return them.” Lo and behold, I finally found my match! Even though my booties are under $50, I’m really impressed with the quality. They are super comfy as well, and I love the different textures.

The grey t shirt dress is actually from the Loft Factory Store in Mississippi. I love Loft stores because I can walk in, spot what I like, grab it in my size and go. I actually got three dresses that day… and two of them were grey t shirt dresses because I have a thing. It’s so easy for work. Now that it’s getting just a we bit cooler (again, FINALLY!) I can rock my super soft denim jacket, and I am thrilled. Fall is coming together, and so are those effortless fall outfits.
