Believe it or not, smiling has been voted one of the most attractive features of a person time and time again, in both men and women. It’s something that doesn’t cost you anything to do, it’s gesture can make someone’s day, and it feels good to do – so why aren’t more of us smiling out there?

One of the biggest reasons is down to your teeth. Are you confident enough to show them off? Or is the reason you’re not smiling because you’re trying to hide something?

Smile quote

If for whatever reason you’re not happy with how your smile looks, it can have a huge impact on your self-esteem. You may talk with your hand in front of your mouth, or force your lips shut when you laugh – this isn’t something that you should just grin and bear (pun intended.)

There are plenty of options out there that you can do to improve your smile. – Here are just a few.

Brush twice a day

An obvious that everyone should be doing. Brush when you wake up in the morning, and when you go to bed at night. Gently brush every tooth and the gum above it (and your tongue!) This will help not only brush away anything that has been left in your mouth from the day, but it will also get rid of the bacteria that prevents your breath from smelling. Just don’t over brush, as this will eventually remove your enamel, and you don’t want that to happen.

Teeth whitening

If your teeth aren’t as white as you’d like them, whether that be down to years of smoking, illness, or you just got unfortunate, there are many different ways you can whiten your teeth. There are whitening toothpastes out there, whitening strips to leave on for thirty minutes or so, home whitening kits including a special light mouth guard, or going to a certified dentist who does it with a high powered laser. What you go for is down to you and what you think you need, so do the necessary research and talk to your dentist for advice on what they suggest.

Teeth alignment

You may find that you have slightly uneven teeth. One may be growing in front of the other, or pushing it to one side. If you want to fix crooked teeth, you’re best speaking to your dentist first. You may be given a retainer to wear, that over time, will have your teeth all growing in the right direction. Or they may suggest you just remove the tooth (depending on the area it is in) and replace it with a false one.

Luscious lips

Remember, a good smile isn’t all about the teeth you know? It’s just as important to focus on someone’s lips – so make sure they’re looking good. You can do this by exfoliating them once a week to remove any dry, dead skin, and then smother them up with a good lip conditioning balm to keep them hydrated. Then choose your weapon of lip product, whether this be a gloss, a bold sheen, or a nude matte.

Now you’re ready. So smile!

There comes a time in life where you just need to grab the bull by the horns, take the plunge, make the change. Things that you have been sitting on for absolutely ages but never got round to doing, either out of fear, complacency or not knowing where to start. Most people wait for the New Year to start implementing resolutions, but this doesn’t have to be the way. Why wait for an arbitrary day to get stuff moving? Start with the here and now.

But what if you’re struggling to realize what needs to change? Let’s take a look at a few things which the more motivated among us are striving to make better for themselves…

Slow down

Making More Time

Whether this is more time to get ready in the morning, setting aside more time to see your friends or simply taking some time out for yourself, it’s hard to conjure up something that doesn’t exist. If this time is already filled and you know that you are busying yourself way too much, start cutting out the unnecessary things. Doing things that you don’t really enjoy, not matter how good they are for you (hot yoga, anybody?) only puts you into the frame of mind that you don’t have any time to spare because you’re spending it doing this instead. Fill your life with the things that you love.

Changing Yourself

There is always something that we want to change about ourselves, but it doesn’t necessarily have to be physical. If it is physical, it’s something that needs to be researched. Both diets and cosmetic work are things that need to be sat down and thought about, not only in terms of money spent, but more so how much you want the desired outcome. Let’s take, for example, dental implants; cosmetic dentistry procedures start with a free consultation, which is just what you need to get you on track to see whether it’s for you or not. It gives the time and the professional advice to think it over. If it’s more of a lifestyle change or attitude change, connect with those who you know exhibit the traits that you want to learn or possess. Hang around with kind people all day long, and you’ll start to be kind; hang around with those with a quick-wit, and you’ll pretty soon be picking that up, too. It’s all about the circles that you choose to be a part of.

Pushing Your Goals

We are so at risk of just sitting back and being content with what we’ve got. This should wait for when we’re older – much older! Always push your boundaries and further your goals. Being able to give yourself the determination and motivation to strive for better is something that can’t be bottled or bought. It’s something that needs to come from within, and while there are so many sites online to tell you how to do this, often it’s just something that needs to be figured out by ourselves.

There is so much more that we could be investing into our bodies to help them achieve what they are capable of. It doesn’t mean that you have to stretch it to the max like top athletes; you only have to get it to a point where you notice that your body is thanking you for the changes. This could be that you’re not struggling to get to the top of a flight of stairs without losing your breath, or keeping a clear and focused mind throughout the day. Certain changes need to be made throughout your daily routine, but as soon as they start to become habit, the rest should flow along just nicely.

Taking Care of Hair and Teeth

Hair and teeth don’t last forever – at least not in the condition that you would continually like them to be in. Our hair colour starts to fade, and teeth take on a lot of the brunt of what we intake on a daily basis – can you really expect them to last forever? There are services from Dental Brush which may be able to help if you think that your teeth have gone past a point where brushing alone won’t help them, or if you don’t have a good brushing and flossing routine in place, now’s your time to get started before anything untoward happens. It is mainly your diet that affects the state of your teeth; the more water that you drink instead of soda, for example, the less likely you are to see tooth decay. Genetics also has a big part to play in determining how long your teeth will last, what colour they will appear to be as you get older and how strong they will be when chomping through your daily food. Get yourself at the least an electric toothbrush and an interdental brush, as well as some dentist-recommended toothpaste, and you will be well on your way to ensuring you have given yourself the best restart to getting into the habit of a brilliant brushing routine.

Getting Your Fluid Intake

Not enough of us are drinking the recommended amount of water each day. We are dehydrating ourselves without really realizing it. Sure, we can get through the day by getting most of our water content through what we eat and odd cups here and there, but what we need to get us working fully and to the standard that we should be expecting of ourselves is eight glasses of eight ounces of water per day. You can add in a few more if you wish. If this seems like a huge amount, build up to it slowly and see if you can notice the benefits from what you are intaking – it should be more noticeable to you after only a couple of days of doing it.

Exercising Regularly

Exercise doesn’t have to be working out so much that you faint. A lot of people have an idea of exercise as something to avoid because it’s too much effort, but there are little changes that you can make to your daily routine that will all add up to one mass effect of speeding up your heart rate a just a touch – every little helps. Taking the stairs instead of the elevator, walking more instead of driving everywhere and getting up more at work to do things (i.e. taking steps over to your colleague for a chat instead of emailing them) are all proactive steps towards getting just that little bit fitter. You won’t even notice that you’re doing it. If you want to go even further than this, try running or joining a local sports team that you will enjoy. Think about the sports that you enjoyed while you were at school; there is always someone who has taken them on further and made them into an adult league.

Eating What’s Right

Our diet has a lot to compensate for when it comes to how we are feeling on a daily basis. Eating the wrong types of food, as comforting as it can seem at the time, can have a disastrous effect on how you feel the next day. Bloated, lethargic, unmotivated – these are all symptoms not of a serious disease in most cases, but of a bad diet. Eating superfoods and stuff laden with the right vitamins that are needed to get you through the day are the things that you should be doing, rather than sticking with the junk food that has propelled you along this far. You should begin to notice that you are feeling more energised, have the motivation to tackle your day and the concentration span to go with it. These are things that you don’t have to take pills to achieve – you simply have to be consuming the right things at the right time (i.e. no late night snacks!) to be able to fuel yourself correctly for the days, weeks and years ahead of you.

Going For Checkups

It is so important to go for regular checkups throughout the year. This goes for your eyes, your teeth, any gynecological checks that you may need to attend and general health checks from your doctor. If you haven’t got any appointments booked, get on the phone or on the web and start booking yourself in. Even if there is nothing wrong, it is always best to get looked at to ensure this and so you have the health professional’s word. Taking the time to care about yourself will only ever benefit you; don’t see it as a chore, but something that you need to indulge in to get to a better quality of life. If we treated objects in the same way that we treat our bodies, such as a car for example, it would break and we would only be at fault for not giving it the correct care and attention that it deserved. Our bodies are the same. Take care of them; you’ve only got the one for life.

In many cases, the wearing of makeup is still a bit of a taboo subject. Women are always encouraged to feel happy in their own skin and to love themselves no matter what – yet much of the media tells us that we need to wear makeup to be attractive. Some people even attribute a woman’s success to whether she is a wearer of makeup or not! But really, makeup is subjective – it can be whatever you want it to be, as you are the one wearing it. It CAN be a really fun way to express yourself and to give you a little lift – but it’s important that you feel comfortable without it on as well. After all, there are certain occasions where makeup isn’t appropriate, or when we simply don’t have time to apply it. The idea of going bare faced does fill many women with horror. But, going au natural doesn’t need to be anything scary at all. It’s all about embracing the real you – and if you feel like you need a little bit of a boost before you take the no makeup plunge, here are some ways to enhance your greatest natural features.

Great dental care

As the saying goes, ‘you’re never fully dressed without a smile’ – so if  you’re too self conscious to even bare your teeth, stripping you of your makeup isn’t going to do much for your confidence. Most dating surveys show that the one common physical attribute people look for in a partner is good teeth. So, it’s definitely worth looking after yours! If you were blessed with a great set of pearly whites, then good for you! All you will need to do is to put a bit of time and effort into the upkeep of them, with regular health check ups and a good dental hygiene routine. If you have certain things about your teeth you don’t like, you could consider undergoing a cosmetic procedure somewhere like sloanslakedental.com .

Shiny healthy hair

Is there anything more beautiful than strong, healthy hair that shines? For many of us, our hair is our crowning glory – so clearly, it deserves to be taken good care of. The number one way that most people’s hair gets damaged is through excessive heat use. So, if you’re a flat iron addict, try to be mindful of how often you use them. If you really can’t imagine a life without them, just make sure you use necessary precautions, such as heat protecting spray, before you subject your hair to any high temperatures.

Clear skin

Many people think that as soon as they are out of their teenage years, any skin problems they have will miraculously disappear. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. Adult acne is still very common, and other skin issues – such as eye bags, lines or excessive dryness – can still plague us throughout our lives. The important thing is finding a skincare regime that works for you – and looking after yourself from the inside out. A poor diet and too much soda or alcohol can instantly wreak havoc with your skin, making it look dull and lifeless. Adopting a healthier lifestyle will not only have you feeling much more energetic, it will also make your skin glow too.

If you don’t have a flawless smile, don’t panic. You may be inundated with images of pristine smiles in glossy magazines, but it’s actually very rare to have perfectly straight white teeth. The good news is that it’s possible to correct almost any aesthetic flaw you could ever imagine using cosmetic dentistry. Gone are the days when gorgeous smiles were only available to Hollywood stars. Now, anyone can enjoy showing off perfect pearly whites. Here are just some of the cosmetic treatments you might want to consider if you dream of a sparkling new smile.

Tooth whitening

Has your coffee habit left your teeth looking a little off-white? Or do you simply wish your teeth were whiter and brighter? White teeth have long been associated with beauty, health, and success. A radiant smile can make you look younger and increase your confidence. There are various options when it comes to whitening treatment. Home therapies are incredibly convenient, and they tend to be cheaper than in-chair treatments. In most cases, you’ll receive a custom-made set of whitening trays, which contain bleaching agent. You have to wear the trays for a period of time at home, and you can fit your treatment around your schedule. Within 14 days, you’ll have a stunning, healthy-looking smile. The alternative is an express in-chair treatment, which will give you incredible results in 1-2 hours.

Cosmetic braces

Do you have crooked or crowded teeth? Are you conscious about the gaps between your teeth? If so, you may wish to consider cosmetic braces. In the past, orthodontic treatment involved wearing bulky metal braces for long periods of time. But today, things are very different. Modern braces are sleek, comfortable, and convenient. You can even get invisible braces, so nobody has to know that you’re having treatment. The cost of braces varies hugely depending on the system you choose. If you’re thinking about having braces, contact some local dentists and arrange consultations. You can ask questions and find out more about the treatments, the clinic, and the dental team.

Porcelain veneers

If you’ve ever been transfixed by the endless array of perfect smiles on the red carpet, there’s every chance that you’ve come across porcelain veneers. Veneers are a very popular treatment, which can be used to address a host of common cosmetic problems, such as chips, staining, uneven edges, and spaces between the teeth. They are extremely fine shells, which are made from porcelain. They are fixed to the surfaces of the teeth, and the result is a beautiful smile. If you like the sound of veneers, search for dentists that specialize in cosmetic dentistry.

Do you wish you had a more attractive smile? We all want to feel confident when we meet new people or even smile at strangers in the street. If you’re unhappy with the appearance of your smile, you don’t have to resign yourself to a lifetime of smiling with your lips closed or hiding away at the back of the room. These innovative cosmetic dental treatments are designed to correct flaws and give you more confidence.
