Many people are guilty of giving up on their fitness goals, losing that initial motivation for a variety of reasons. What’s holding you back from turning your new lifestyle into a permanent one?

Deadlifts for donuts

Learn more about the five things that could be stopping you from achieving your fitness goals, and how to combat them for a much more permanent healthy lifestyle.

1. You’ve set the bar too high

They say you should ‘go big or go home,’ but when your goals are set too high – they can be all the more difficult to achieve. While setting some clear overall goals is important, it’s the smaller goals that will help you get there. Make a monthly plan of what you’d like to achieve each month, such as running 20 minutes without stopping or lifting a certain weight. Work towards these goals instead, and you’ll find them much easier to achieve than aiming for that one big overall goal.

2. You’re not eating the right foods

Getting fit and healthy isn’t just about going to the gym, there’s much more to it than that. To achieve your fitness goals, you need to overhaul your diet. This means eating healthier and eating foods that support your fitness plans and eating foods that give you energy to fuel your workouts. Healthy eating coupled with fitness is the most effective way to lose weight and get in shape, so make sure you set goals that incorporate both elements.

I have to say here that I try to eat basically healthy at all times but yes I let myself have the occasional doughnut, slice of pizza, etc. In my opinion, life is for living and it’s all about balance.

3. You’re not sure what you’re doing

Exercise can be tough, especially when you’re not sure what you’re doing or how it will benefit you. Choosing the right workout for you requires some careful thought and designing a plan that fits your aims. There are plenty of online articles that could help you figure out how to achieve your goals, as well as some ready-made fitness plans.

If you’re still unsure, or you’re new to exercise – then you might find professional help more beneficial. Seek advice from a personal trainer who can help you to design your ideal fitness plan or attend some classes to teach you more about technique and form. It’s ok not to know what you’re doing at first, so don’t be afraid to seek help.

4. You’re still smoking

Smoking can have a disastrous effect on your fitness, reducing your lung capacity and the rate at which blood flows around your body. It’s great that you want to get fitter, but giving up smoking is the first thing that needs to go to help you achieve that goal. Quitting isn’t easy, and while a new fitness routine could serve as a welcome distraction, you might need some help quitting. Vaping in lieu of smoking can help you improve your fitness levels, while also helping you to wean yourself off nicotine gradually. Get yourself one of the best vape pens from Dopeboo to get started and work on completely transforming your health. You’ll soon notice a difference in your cardiovascular activity as your lungs and circulation recover from the damage.

5. You lose motivation easily

When you first launch into a new fitness regime, you do so full of enthusiasm that helps carry you through those first few weeks. But soon, a missed session can become two, you start going back into old habits and before you know it – you’re back at square one. So what can you do to change the pattern?

Whatever that’s causing you to lose your motivation, learn to tackle it. Read Buzzfeed’s ‘29 Smart Ways to Motivate Yourself to Work Out’ to give you some ideas for beating those common flake excuses that could be holding you back. Scheduling your workouts according to what you have planned for the week can help you to work around your other commitments and not let life get in the way of your goals.

Whatever your fitness goals, whether you’d like to run a marathon or tone your tummy – try not to be too hard on yourself. Instead of focusing on trying to make dramatic changes, try evolving into the best version of yourself instead. This way, you can embrace new lifestyle changes at a pace that suits you, without the pressure and disappointment that tough targets can cause. It may not always be easy, but if you work hard, the results will be worth it in the end.

Winter is well and truly upon us and it can be the harshest time of year for our skin. Cold weather, dry heat and rain or snow is a recipe for disaster when it comes to keeping your skin in good condition. That’s why it’s so important to take extra care during the Winter months. So, what can you do to make sure your skin stays clear, full of moisture and glowing?

Switch to Warm

When you come in from the freezing cold at the end of the day, it’s so tempting to run a hot bath or shower to warm yourself up. Of course, there will be times when that’s needed and deserved, but if you really want to take care of your skin, warm temperatures may be better. Going from cold to hot could do your skin more damage than you realize. Try washing your face in lukewarm water with a face cloth at the end of the day.

Focus on Moisturizing

Moisturizing is never more important that it is during the Winter. You’ll probably find that your skin loses moisture even after washing, so it’s a good idea to moisturize immediately after. You can find some of the best Winter moisturizers at Moisturizers.com. Don’t be afraid to use your moisturizer liberally through the Winter. Your skin will need it!

Choose Your Products Wisely

Many women use a number of different products on their faces every day. From cleansers and toners to makeup and face wipes. During the Winter months, it’s important to be aware of the ingredients present in your products. For example, some products containing petroleum can work to dry out your skin further. The best products you can use on your face during this time contain natural oils that aid your skin in restoration. Lavender and Chamomile are especially soothing on dry skin.

Protect Your Skin

Your skin needs a little extra help to fight against the elements during Winter. You can keep your skin protected by dressing suitably for the cold weather. Gloves will protect the sensitive skin on your hands and scarves will protect your neck from the wind. If you’re lucky enough to experience some sunshine during your Winter, it’s also important to remember to wear sunscreen. Even if there’s snow on the ground, the sun can still burn.

Stay Hydrated

It’s easy to forget about hydration in the Winter because we often switch from drinking water and other cold drinks to drinking teas, coffees and hot chocolates. However, these warmer drinks don’t often provide enough hydration for our bodies. If you notice your skin becoming dry, try switching a few of your teas for bottled water instead. Drinking water during Winter will also help you to steer clear of the flu if your colleagues are coughing and sneezing around you.

Turn Down the Heat

We survive in Winter by turning up the heat in our homes and our cars. However, this kind of dry heat is no good for your skin and you may find yourself breaking out in spots or having difficulty applying makeup smoothly. You can avoid this kind of damage to your skin by turning the heat down or using a humidifier in your home. The humidifier will work to restore the moisture in your home and effectively, your skin too.

Overnight Conditioning

There are certain parts of your body that may become drier quicker than others. These are usually the hands, feet, elbows and knees where the skin is thinner. Luckily, there are plenty of moisturizing treatments to choose from that can work overnight to lock in moisture in your skin. For example, you can buy gloves filled with deep moisturizing creams that you can wear throughout the night and take off in the morning. The same goes for socks and face masks.

Exfoliate

Many people make the mistake of believing that exfoliating will dry out already dry skin. That isn’t the case. Without exfoliating, your dead skin cells are left to build up and create a barrier against moisture. If moisture is blocked from getting into your skin, your skin suffers. It’s important to exfoliate at least once a day during Winter so your skin is free to accept the moisture from creams and other products.

Go Makeup Free

When you get a day off, and all you want to do is stay indoors in your pajamas, forget the makeup too. Makeup can include toxins and irritants that make Winter skin much harder to manage. Giving your face a day off from the products you usually use will give it the freedom to heal and breathe. Just one day could be enough to give your skin the detox it needs.

Facial Mask

DIY Masks

Sometimes, your facial skin needs a little extra attention. However, that doesn’t mean you have to spend a fortune on expensive treatments. In fact, a lot of the best ingredients for soft and smooth skin will already be in your kitchen cupboards. For example, honey is good for calming irritated skin and coconut oil is good for restoring moisture. Find some DIY recipes that suit your skin type and spend an evening pampering your skin.

Eat a Balanced Diet

You are what you eat, as they say. It’s easy to indulge in our favorite foods this time of year, but they aren’t always the best choice for your skin. Don’t forget to get a good variety of fruit and veg in your diet because they contain vital vitamins and nutrients your skin needs to stay as healthy as possible. If you find it difficult to add fruits and veg to your diet around this time of year, try taking a multivitamin supplement instead. That way, your skin is covered even if your diet isn’t.

Pampering skin during the Winter can seem like a full-time job, but if you want to glow your way through all those Christmas parties, it’s something you have to stay on top of. Remember, a beautiful smile is the best accessory you can wear.

They say beauty is only skin deep, but to be beautiful on the surface, you really have to take care of your body from within. Any issues inside the body are reflected on the outside when it comes to things like our skin, hair, eyes, and teeth, and so it’s important to realize the link between health and beauty. Plus when you feel great, it gives you confidence, and you will most likely show it on the outside too.

Eat Well and Nourish From Within

To maintain your beauty on the outside, you absolutely have to nourish from within. When your body has all of the vitamins and minerals it needs to thrive, you will notice better skin, hair, and nails as well as improved mood. And a smile makes anyone look more beautiful! Focus your diet on healthy, fresh produce: lots of fruits and vegetables will provide you with a huge boost of nutrients. Lean protein and dairy, whole grains and legumes are all important additions. If you’re meat or dairy free, it can be worth tracking the foods you eat using a food tracker to ensure you’re getting enough of everything you need from other sources. Cut back on saturated fats, salt and sugar and drink plenty of water. Your body will thank you for it, everything will function better, you will feel and look better.

Quit Your Dangerous Vices

Smoking, illicit drugs, drinking too much alcohol, lying out in the sun or using sunbeds- these are all things that will damage your health as well as your looks. All of these things will dry the skin, leaving it prone to premature aging giving you lines and wrinkles far earlier in life. On top of this, you put yourself at risk for dangerous health conditions such as cancers. Make a conscious effort to quit your vices, if you’re addicted there’s help and advice out there which can make the process easier and give you support. You’ll feel far better for it and could add years onto your life. Many of us do irresponsible things when we’re younger, we drink until we pass out, smoke too much and generally don’t think carefully about the decisions we make when it comes to our body. But as you get older and are more aware of the risks, it makes no sense to keep killing yourself with these things. Replace these with productive and healthy habits and hobbies. Classes at the gym, healthy brunches with friends, hikes with the dog- whatever it is you enjoy.

Exercise and Work on Your Physique

Exercise benefits just about every cell in your body. It improves your cardiovascular system meaning your heart can pump blood around your body more efficiently, and you can move around without getting out of breath. Exercise helps to keep the arteries free of plaque reducing stroke and heart disease strengthens muscles and bones and helps to get rid of toxins through sweat. Because exercise increases blood flow, it helps to oxygenate the skin keeping it elastic and youthful looking. Plus it can use up excess calories helping you to maintain a healthy and attractive physique. Work on including cardio, resistance and stretching exercises in your routine, you will feel fantastic and reap the rewards of a more beautiful appearance too.

Hair Serum

Take Care of Your Hair

Your hair is your crowning glory and is something that can massively change the look of your appearance. There’s a reason bad hair days really are bad when you’re not confident in the way your hair looks it can take a hit of your self-esteem! Stopping with the bleaches and dyes which are full of chemicals will allow your hair to recover, as will stopping over processing it with heat. The trick is to work with your natural hair texture, come up with styles which protect your hair and look great without having to use damaging heat to achieve. Other ways you can maintain healthy hair is to eat foods that are good sources of biotin, protein and folic acid since these are needed to produce and grow healthy locks. Almonds, salmon, lentils, avocados, spinach and greek yogurt are all good choices. If you eat a healthy diet in general, you should get all of the vitamins and minerals you need, but it won’t hurt to incorporate a few additional ingredients which you know are good for hair growth. You can use natural oils on your hair such as olive, coconut and argan oil which will lock in moisture and help keep your locks shiny and beautiful. If you have fine hair, apply oil as a pre-wash treatment. Otherwise you could be able to get away with running some through the ends and leaving it in between washes to nourish and protect.

Avoid Harsh Chemicals

We buy products to clean and protect our skin in the hopes of making it better, but actually, some products can make it worse. Certain scrubs, toners, face washes and other treatments can be drying or damaging to the skin. Unless you have a skin condition and need special skin products prescribed by the doctor, your best bet is to keep it as gentle as possible. Use products that are organic, and proven to be gentle. You can even make a variety of skin products yourself using all natural ingredients. Face masks containing things like bananas, avocados, oats, and eggs for example provide wonderful benefits to the skin. Sites like The Nourished Life have recipes for salt body scrubs, which are a gentle and effective way to remove dead skin. Your skin is the body’s largest organ and can absorb all kinds of chemicals and toxins from the products we use. So keeping them as natural as possible is good from both a health and a beauty perspective. The same applies to makeup, a touch of foundation to even out the skin, some mascara to lengthen the lashes and a swipe of lipstick can make all the difference and boost your confidence. But where possible, choose brands which don’t use harmful chemicals. Mineral foundation for example is all natural so free of toxins and especially great for anyone with sensitive or acne-prone skin.

Look After Your Pearly Whites

What is considered beautiful can often change with time and place? For example, in some cultures very thin women are considered attractive whereas, in others, larger or curvier are considered the ideal. The perfect size, shape, skin color and different features are dependent on time and place. However, there’s one feature that’s consistently considered attractive, and that’s nice teeth. Maintaining a good oral hygiene routine will keep your mouth healthy, but if there are things you want to change cosmetic dentistry can do wonders these days. Whether your teeth are crooked, discolored, even if you have missing teeth (like me!) your dentist will be able to put these things right. No joke- my dentist is invited to my wedding. Eating a healthy diet and being careful of things like sugars, fizzy drinks, fruit juices and acids in foods such as citrus fruits can help you to maintain a beautiful smile. Be wary of things like coffee, tea and red wine which can stain the teeth.

Be Bright Eyed and Bushy Tailed

As they say, eyes are the windows to the soul- they’re also a good indication of what’s going on inside the body. When you’re exhausted, your eyes will look puffy, and you will develop dark circles. Liver problems can show in the eyes by causing yellowing, cloudy eyes can indicate diabetes. Having a fully functioning body that is well nourished, with any health conditions being kept under control will mean your eyes stay clear and beautiful. Visit the optician twice a year to check that everything is in order, and generally take care of your body. If you do notice issues with the eyes, they could reflect a deeper underlying problem so have this checked out. Cold tea bags or slices of cucumber placed on the eyes can help bring down puffiness, or you could buy special soaked eye masks. Rose water is another natural solution which helps to rejuvenate the skin.

Focus on the health of your body and your beauty will follow. Not only will you look your best, but you will feel strong, fit and confident too. When your body is working to it’s maximum potential you can reap the rewards of a more beautiful appearance too.

What steps do you take to maintain both your health and your beauty?

They say that the eyes are the window to the soul. We’re not exactly sure who the first “they” was when it comes to this quote, but there’s no denying the power of this statement. After all, looking into someone’s eyes can be a unique, dazzling, and revealing experience. When you meet someone who clearly has beautiful eyes, it’s one of the first things you notice about them – and that impression stays with you for a long time.

But having naturally beautiful eyes can be wasted if you’re not taking care of them properly, or not allowing them to be as vibrant and noticeable as can be. We’re going to take a look at a slew of tips that will help you highlight your eyes, as well as keep them vibrant healthy for the long run.

Glitter Rainbow Makeup

Eyebrow taming

One of the simplest but most underappreciated tips is to tame your eyebrows. Different things will work for different faces and different eyes. Thicker eyebrows may accentuate the beauty of the eyes below them on some people, but they can also distract from them on others! In any case, get out the tweezers and get those eyebrows looking sharp. They are the things that lead to your eyes, after all. Great eyebrows help frame a face in a similar way to eyes; people who notice how great your eyebrows are

Pretty up those eyelashes

Eyes help frame a face, but how can you help frame your eyes? Perhaps the most obvious answer is to get those eyelashes looking deep, luscious, and dark. Eye shadow can be very good, but it can easily distract if you’re not careful. If you’re looking for something with less risk of overkill then a good brand of mascara will do the trick! Using this in addition to curling can work wonders. If you can’t seem to get it right, or you’re having trouble finding the right mascara for you, then you should definitely consider looking into quality fake eyelashes. Even the really big ones that are clearly fake can help bring attention to your gorgeous soul windows!

Makeup hacks

Getting your eyes to look as good as possible isn’t always as simple as adding some mascara or standard eye shadow; sometimes, you have to be a bit more subtle and clever in your technique. One thing you can try is using your pinky finger to dab a little bit of white eye shadow in the corner of each eye. You can also apply some white shadow right under your brow, or use a light brow highlighter pencil. These subtle changes make your eyes look a little wider and a lot brighter, giving them a fresher look. Whatever you do when it comes to highlighting, ensure you’re using light colors. Light colors help reflect light; darker colors make everything recede, appearing smaller.

Tools for poppin’ those peepers:

Dangerous makeup mistakes

There are loads of risks when it comes to using eye makeup. One of the most common (but less dangerous) is the use of brand names that have been hyped up but turn out to be wastes of money. This is why you should research each option thoroughly. For example, those who have heard of Idol Lash are encouraged to check independent reviews and news sites to make sure it’s getting a good response from people who have used it! Other eye makeup mistakes can cause serious damage. Make sure you replace your makeup every three or four months to reduce the spread of bacteria, and to be careful when buying brands so as to ensure there are no toxic heavy metals in the ingredients.

Modification

One of the reasons that people really fall for a beautiful pair of eyes is the color and sharpness of the iris. With this in mind, it’s clear that some people just got incredibly lucky. We weren’t all born with the naturally stunning irises of the likes of Zooey Deschanel, Angelina Jolie, Michael Fassbender, or, um, PewDiePie. (Seriously, that guy has incredible eyes, oddly enough.) Cosmetic contact lenses can help out a lot here! Of course, these are just a temporary solutions – unfortunately, we can’t get colored contacts that actually correct your vision the way regular contacts do yet. Hopefully, someone is working on it – but we’re not sure eye science will allow for such a possibility! Speaking of contacts…

Be careful with contacts

It’s easier than you think to make mistakes with contact lenses that can both make your eyes look irritated in the short-term and even damage them in the long-term. If you want to make sure your eyes look and feel healthy for as long as possible, then you need to be careful with those contacts. Never wear them to bed; this seems like obvious advice, but a lot of people simply forget to take them out. You also need to remove them before submerging yourself in water. Baths, hot tubs, and pools (public pools especially, yuck) are crawling with bacteria, and your contact lenses are more than happy to soak up that bacteria.

Consider organic facewash

The products you use to wash your face can have a big impact on the health of your eyes. Even if you don’t notice it, at least a tiny bit of whatever you’re using will probably creep in-between your lids and get into your eyes. With this in mind, it’s best that you use a facewash that isn’t loaded with harmful chemicals. Unfortunately, most of them are loaded with harmful chemicals! While they help keep your skin clean in the short-term, they can dry them out in the long-term. Stick with organic cleansers. While it’s not exactly advisable to get such facewash in your eyes, it will certainly be a lot less harmful if that does happen! Cleansers and soaps with artificial fragrances and colors are to be avoided.

Keep your bedding clean

Your bedsheets and pillowcases are swarming with bacteria, I’m afraid. Well, they are after about a week. A lot of people neglect to change their pillowcases as often as they should, perhaps because they don’t appreciate how unhygienic they get after a few days’ use – especially in these hot months! Even showering and washing your hair before bed isn’t going to help all that much. Sweat, dead skin, oil… your pillowcase is absorbing it all, and all that junk can get into your eyes more easily than you might imagine. Don’t be the (alarmingly common) type who changes their bedding once a month. It’s best to do it at the end of every week, providing optimum protection for both your skin and eyes. Speaking of bed…

Get enough sleep

The most vibrant eyes are helped in their vibrancy by looking wide and alert. There are really very few things better for your eyes than getting enough sleep – in fact, this is probably the most important piece of advice in this whole article! In fact, rest throughout the day is important for our eyes, otherwise you’re going to wear them out. This is why you need to take a break from looking at screens. Even long reading sessions from regular books can cause some strain if you’re not giving them an occasional rest.

We tend to see the eyes are these very passive organs. This mindset is partly reflected in the fact that we refer to them as “windows” to the soul. We see them as windows through which our brains gain data to process into sensory information. But the eyes are doing a fair amount of work themselves. When you go to sleep, you’re really giving your eyes some much-needed rest. So make sure you get at least seven to eight hours of sleep every night. This will also prevent puffiness or dark coloring around the eyes. It also helps keep your skin looking good, which will complement the beauty of your eyes!

Protect them properly

Going out in the summer? Then get some sunglasses. And no, I don’t mean you should buy those cheap ones that you keep having to replace. Sunglasses don’t just provide a dark surface off of which sunlight bounces. Sunlight is going to get in regardless; the lenses need to negate or soften the UV light, the most dangerous element of those sunbeams. This will help you keep your eyes bright and healthy for as long as possible.

Eat right

Last but not least: you need to think about your diet. We don’t tend to think of our diets as having much of an impact on our eyes, but this isn’t the truth. Did your parents ever tell you that carrots could help you see in the dark if eaten enough? (They were probably telling you this around the same time they were swearing by the existence of Santa Claus.) It’s an exaggeration of course, but carrots are an amazing source of vitamin A, which has been proven to be great for long-term eye health. In fact, the best eye drops on the market tend to contain some vitamin A. Making sure you drink plenty of water will also help keep your eyes healthy. A good diet will help you sleep better, so remember that, too!

Going on vacation is always an exciting time. You get the chance to see a part of the world which you haven’t seen before. And, you don’t have to worry about any of life’s normal little issues; like work and money. Instead, you can spend the time relaxing and having fun. This can all be ruined, though. Without the right preparation, it’s easy to go on holiday without the body you want. And, this can be enough to make you feel uncomfortable for the whole trip. To help you out with this, this post will be going through some of the important things to do to your body before you travel. With this in mind, you should be able to make your trip much more pleasant. And, it doesn’t have to cost you anything at all.

mermaid workout shirt

Tanning

To start, a lot of people go on vacations to hot places. And, in these places, you will often find loads of people with great tans. This can make you feel very out of place if you have a pale complexion. So, it’s worth getting a base tan before you go away. To do this, you have a couple of choices. In most cases, it’s best to do this through sunbathing; as long as you have the right protection. But, using a tanning bed or spray tan will also work well. Of course, this doesn’t just serve for vanity. Along with the benefits of looking good, having a tan will also increase your protection against the sun. There’s not much worse than sunburn when you’re on a nice trip. So, it’s best to make sure that you have this sorted before you go. Be careful, though; fake tans won’t give you this protection.

Getting in shape

Next, it’s time to think about a different aspect of your body’s appearance. A lot of people like to get into shape before they go on vacation. You will probably be spending a lot of your time wearing very few clothes. This means that you will be exposed and on show; driving most to try to look as good as they can. The biggest part of this journey will be your diet. You need to make sure that you’re eating a balanced and healthy diet long before you go on your holiday. Options like Huel are great for those who can’t be bothered with calorie counting; but, won’t be good for those that like variety in their food. But, there’s more to this than just food.

You also have to consider the exercise you do; when you’re planning to get in shape for your vacation. Putting effort into something like this will always pay off. And, in fact, it may only take a month or two for you to get there. During this time, you need to try and do some moderate or heavy exercise each day. Cardio work can be performed as much as you want. But, weight training will have to have breaks. If you’re unsure; you could always go and see your doctor or a personal trainer to figure it out. This will help you to clear up any concerns you might have.

Vaccinations/other medication

Now, as it gets closer to the vacation, you need to consider the vaccinations you might need to travel to your destination. Loads of countries will enforce mandatory vaccinations for their guests. This ensures that diseases don’t leave the country and get taken to a place where they could cause an epidemic. Finding this information out should be too hard. There are websites on the internet dedicated to helping people find out which vaccines they might need to travel to different places. Along with this, you might want to get some other medication for your trip. A lot of people find that they get sick on planes or in very hot places. So, it’s worth considering what you might suffer from while away.

Getting your hands on medication can be done through a few different routes. For vaccinations, you will need to go to a doctor. They will be the only people with access to the right chemicals to give you the vaccine you need. And, along with this, they will be the only ones who can give you proof you’ve had it. But, other medication can be sourced differently. There are loads of websites on the internet which can sell you bulk loads of medication. Buying pills like this should be done with care, though. Only ever buy from a company which you trust. And, only buy drugs which are recognized by your doctor.

Personal hygiene

Your personal hygiene could play a big part of your trip. And, for women, there’s something to be very concerned about; periods. Of course, you can’t exactly book a holiday to suit this time in the month. Instead, you have to find a way to solve the issue yourself. Norethisterone tablets are used to delay a period; making it much easier for you to feel comfortable swimming and enjoying yourself. Other embarrassing, but completely natural, bodily issues can also be solved with medication. For example, people who struggle to control their bladder might want to find a drug to ease this issue for them when they travel.

One of the biggest areas of personal hygiene which people fail to address before their trip is their skin’s health. This part of your body is the one organ that people see all the time. You can’t hide your skin; especially in a hot place. So, instead, you need to work hard to make sure that it’s clear of spots or blemishes before you go. As a pro-tip; bicarbonate soda is great for clearing the skin. But, of course, you probably have a few tricks up your sleeve.

Hopefully, this post will inspire you to start thinking about little improvements before your next vacation. A lot of people ignore these things until it’s too late. And, this will only lead to you feeling unsure about your body while you’re away. So, instead, do the work at home; it’s worth it.
