This weekend is all about love. It’s Kendo’s birthday and we’re going to my parents’ for a steak dinner and staying there before heading back to DC to do… whatever he wants! I didn’t get to spend his birthday with him last year because he had drill so this is actually his first birthday that we get to spend together. He’s also been working night shifts so I’ve rarely been able to see him during the week.

I’ve got my eye on…

If only this Pink Confetti Sequin Skirt was still available in my size!

I love Stella & Dot for their jewelry but I’m also loving this Crush It Bag. Unfortunately, it’s sold out right now but it’ll be back in April!

My all-time favorite nail color is nowhere to be found online in Gel. Let’s Be Friends was unfortunately a limited edition Hello Kitty/ OPI collaboration, but this might be a pretty decent dupe nail polish. What do you think?

Don’t forget you can always peek at my wish list over in my sidebar. Here’s what I’m currently craving:

Baby- it’s cold outside and finally feeling a little Christmassy! Kendall and I are doing Georgetown Glow tonight and then we both have family coming in for a very special weekend. On Sunday, we’re getting a betrothal blessing from my hometown church in Olney and then one of my bridesmaids’ family is hosting a bridal luncheon for me. We finally have our own little tree up and decorated, but I can’t wait to see my parents’ house because my mom does it so nice.

Lately on The CaroLøve:

If you’re around this weekend, head to Georgetown to shop with a cause at the AerieREAL Pop-Up Tour with my girl Sarah!

Take a peek at some of my current Aerie faves!

I just checked my Spotify Wrapped (basically a rundown of what I listened to this year) and I was not surprised in the least by my stats. But if you want to go further back in time with your music, say, the day you were born, check out the Nostalgia Machine.

You may have seen the little ornament I got Kendall for our tree this year- a perfectly personalized little red Christmas car from The Pine And The Poppy. I’m not sure how I started collecting Christmas cars, but it’s totally a thing now. These are just a few other little Christmas car collectables I’ve found.

Last weekend, Bubbles & Bloggers had our July meetup- a shopping tour with Shop The City (more on that in a later post) that ended with the last Whistle & Wild popup before founder Amanda scoots down to Texas in a move that has been a long time coming. While I’m sad to see my friend go, I am SO excited for her journey. You may remember this, but Sarah and I modeled her clothes to help launch Whistle & Wild back late last summer, and the following of Amanda’s online boutique has grown exponentially and nation-wide. There is no question that Amanda is one bad boss and she’ll do great things!

This popup had a little somethin’somethin’ extra though! Marisa was there to help style summer Whistle & Wild pieces for fall. I was so inspired that I wanted to share with my readers some of the great ideas Marisa gave to help transition their own wardrobes. The best part is that I found the pieces I was missing at the #NSale and can share those with you too! These are just a couple of pieces we looked at to move from summer into fall. Make sure you check out everything Whistle & Wild has to offer!

Although the booties that Marisa showed us with this outfit had a little more of a heel, I love love love the perforated look on this Tom’s booties. Put those toes away once the temps drop, ad some sleeves to the slip dress with soft cotton underneath, and add burgundy to the blush to make a great fall outfit!

“Gingham is summer through and through.” This is a gingham rule that I’ve already talked about breaking myself. While Marisa said that leather is still a bit much for early fall, olive utility/ military style jackets are universally flattering. Add a riding boot with a low heel for just a little bit of height. I actually got these exact boots for myself after hearing how long my legs looked with just a bit of heel. At the risk of looking too matchy matchy, I kind of love it with the blue bag too! And I think the boots make it a day or night outfit.

I eschewed gingham with a firm hand up until last year. I hated the preppy “checks” especially when I was a super wise and *~edgy~* 10th grader who preferred Hot Topic above all else. I saw the light and have been wanting to add more gingham into my wardrobe.

I think my turning point was seeing so many cute outfits from Lauren that break the pattern mixing rule flawlessly. (Fun fact: she was one of the first bloggers I followed!) I tried it myself for Valentine’s Day and the mix ‘n’ match layers just felt so fun! Right now, the last thing I want to do is layer up, but I’m thinking of using gingham as a neutral for button-downs under sweaters once it gets cooler. And yes, I’m already wishing summer away into the crisp fall-ness I look forward to every year. I’m looking for cool, sunny, October days with a punch of color. Is it weird that I’ve started planning fall outfits already?

You know what’s kind of really cute? Wednesday morning as I was leaving for work, Kendall made sure I had a jacket. For some reason, that just touched my heart, but maybe we’re still in the honeymoon phase of living together. Either way, I thought it was sweet and I did grab my raincoat as I ran out the door to catch the bus.

Speaking of jackets…

While we were at the outlets in Mississippi (where I got the LOFT Factory dress in this post) we walked into what I think was a Wilson Leather store, but I can’t really remember specifically. I tried on an amazing vegan leather jacket in a hunter green, and I’m regretting not getting it when I had the chance.  Maybe it’s my mom’s voice in the back of my head, but I had a problem with the fact that it wasn’t genuine leather. However, after the whole burgundy-faux-leather-booties-from-Amazon situation, I’m thinking that faux can actually be quality. Am I going to run out and get one? Probably not- I’d really rather splurge on a classic leather jacket if I find my match. But I won’t let labels bother me if I can tell the quality is there. I’ve picked out some of my favorite leather (and vegan leather) jackets to share with you. What do you think- go for faux, or nah?
