One of the best parts of Bubbles & Bloggers is the fact that we support our own bosses in their entrepreneurial endeavors. A couple weekends ago, we had a Shop The City meetup to check out and support a relatively new business venture by our friend and member Sahra. It’s exactly how what it sounds like- a shopping tour of some amazing local spots. I won’t spoil it for you- go on the tour and see it for yourself! We started on 14th Street, hitting up some spots I’ve heard up but had never been to, which was pretty awesome. After a brief(ish) stop to take pictures in front of the totes-appropes WORK IT GURL mural (where I quick-changed into my new rose gold skirt in the parking lot), we hopped in our own private bus and headed to Georgetown. We saw a few boutiques there before a massive storm hit and we ran to the Graham for Amanda’s Whistle & Wild popup and Marisa’s mini styling session.

Really late in the game, Dani thought it might be fun to pop a Sex and the City theme on our day. B&B usually themes our events, and this theme made a lot of sense for a day of shopping with lady-friends. I’m not sure if I totally nailed it, but Dani said I was a Carrie Diaries version of Carrie Bradshaw. I’ll take it! What do you think?

Yes, I got this skirt while shopping.

Sometimes I see outfits on my friends and immediately wish they were on me. My girl Amanda of Whistle & Wild looked absolutely adorable at a casual friends meet-up a couple of weeks ago, and I thought I’d take a stab at recreating the look of this outfit with different pieces (and maybe without the hat because my moon face looks even rounder in hats like that.) I love her graphic tee tied into a crop with the maxi skirt + statement necklace, but then I flew off the handle with the accessories I chose. As a shorty, I have to pair maxi anything with heels or  wedges, and the more rose gold the better, in my opinion.

This kind of look is so fun for summer brunch or rooftop drinks. While we were all about the red, white, and blue for Red White and Fuego at Mission, I would wear this for margaritas with my señoritas any day. Clearly I’m into bright colors + playful prints, and now that I don’t have my sorority advisor telling me to “take one accessory off before you leave the house,” I have thrown that advice completely out the window.

I have been talking about my wedding since… well probably since I could talk. It’s always been navy, always been yellow, and it used to have blush as an accent color. Not much has changed about the overall look that I wanted- clean, crisp, not overdone, not stuffy- but a few things are really just not for me anymore.

First of all, I used to imagine all my bridesmaids in yellow babydoll dress and cowgirl boots. I’m not really sure what I was thinking with that one because yellow is such a hard color to get right for folks skin tones and my girls are all over the map with that. I’ve also always wanted a city wedding so I’m not knocking the boots (I LOVE my boots) but it wouldn’t work.

Then, I’d dream of getting married at the National Cathedral. I even wrote them an email explaining why before I went away to college. For those of you who don’t know, you have to fall into certain specifications that include going to one of their schools, working there, or donating a certain amount. While technically I didn’t go to a Cathedral school, my school, St. Andrew’s, was highly connected to the Cathedral as a DC area Episcopalian school. We started our year with a service there and that’s also where we graduate from. I was also confirmed there and my children’s choir sang there. It’s one of my favorite places in the city. However, Kendall and I went to a Sunday service there and it just didn’t give us the warm fuzzies. There’s also and issue of size- our wedding is too big for a chapel, too small for the knave (the main church). So we’re looking to get married at a more regular-sized Episcopal church in the city.

The last bit that’s really changed for me is that I’ve upgraded from blush accents to rose gold. (If you’re looking to learn a bit more about this gorgeous metal, Sahra did a great post.) My engagement ring is rose gold and, honestly, we started really going rose gold for the wedding when I was looking at invitations and Kendall told me I needed something more shimmery (to match my personality, God love him). Enter Minted with their foil-pressed wedding invitations. While we’re not doing everything rose gold, we are using it as our accent instead of blush. I’m also not sharing anything that I personally have picked because I want to surprise my guests and, in some cases, Kendall, these are all pieces I considered and love.

I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry.

Maybe starting a new blog less than a month before going away on a week-long road trip and then moving a week after that was not one of my brightest plans. But here we are and I plan on getting back into the swing of things and feeling like a real human again. Thanks to the help of my parents and my stylist’s amazing husband, Kendall and I at least have everything in our Glover Park paradise- which we have named Pride Rock. We are so thrilled to be getting back into a routine and living NOT out of suitcases.

While my original plan was to do multiple outfit shoots on my trip, we honestly were so busy fitting in time with friends and family. It just wasn’t in the card for me to be a great blogger, and that’s ok. Really. He got to meet some people very special to me on our way home and we got to sneak in a couple days in Savannah. I’ve always wanted to go and it was even sweater than I imagined. We got lost in a few antique shops, took a horse-drawn tour around the city, shopped a bit, and ate way too much food. I highly recommend visiting, and would love to give you travel tips if you’re planning on it! (Looking at you, Sarah!)

My little tie-dye t shirt dress was an easy-breezy (and easy to pack!) vacation lifesaver. Seriously, it was HOT down there. Not that that’s any different than summer in DC, but usually I’m in a nice cold office and we were walking EVERYWHERE. It was a little short, but I can see it being a fall/ winter staple with leggings and boots on weekends. We all know I love the t shirt dress, but for packing it was seriously the best. What’s your go-to pack-able favorite?
