Tag Archives: sale

I learned many lessons while working in retail such including but not limited to:

  • Whatever you’re looking for is probably not in the back
  • Store closings are not just a free-for-all but can be very sad
  • You truly can’t please everyone
  • The customer does think they’re always right even if they are really, really not
  • There is really very little reason to buy anything full price

I honestly didn’t even realize it before I worked at Pier One but there is a) always some kind of sale or clearance and b) a good chance that the piece you love is going to hit it eventually. The only circumstance where this might not be the case is holiday specific items. We had people furious at us that we ran out of special edition ornaments by Christmas Eve but what are ya gonna do?

As far as clothes, I rarely, if ever, buy clothes full price. I stalk and I wait to catch my prey. If I miss it, I just means I don’t need it anyway! I haven’t been buying clothes much at all, to be honest but I might consider a little Nordstrom splurge for their fall sale. I’m definitely taking a peek for Christmas shopping, but I want to share the pieces I love for me.

Happy Friday! I’m going to Illusions tonight have Amanda  fix up my hair but then staying for a sip and a shop with my other Amanda. Whistle & Wild is doing a pop-up complete with wine + truffle tastings! Saturday, Kendall and I are finally seeing Sing (because we love singing cartoons) and Sunday I have a Bubbles & Bloggers meetup at Kate Spade City Center and, of course, the Super Bowl Official Snack Day. We’ll be spending it at a little gathering hosted by Sarah + her manfriend.

Too glam print

This week on The CaroLøve:

I have to applaud Dana on her post about what’s going on in the world. It’s so scary thinking about being judged for either your political opinions or the fact that maybe you don’t totally understand everything that’s going on. It’s just important to stay educated for yourself and to be kind.

Also giving props to my girl Roxanne. I honestly had never noticed any acne scars on her, but I am so impressed that she shared pictures and her rather unpleasant experience with micro-needling. The things we do for ourselves are not always pretty or glam, but I do appreciate that she showed us the good, the bad, and the ugly of her skincare.

Maybe I’ve been living under a rock- but did anyone else know that Fornash has a delivery box club for $25 a box? (less expensive if you buy yearly). I did Birch Box for a bit and was disappointed, but I think I’m going to treat myself to the every-3-months box.

I’m super into dolled-up sweatshirts right now. I’m currently waiting for the Draper James Love Y’all Sweatshirt AND the J. Crew French colors sweatshirt (currently on sale if you’re and XS or smaller) to come back in my size.

After putting together the post about green purses for my coworker, I stumbled across the GiGi New York Winter Sale + found her a set that she ordered ASAP. If you’re in the market for a new bag (I’m not- for once), this sale should NAHT be missed.

Have a great weekend!

At around this time every year, there are countless businesses keen to remind you of the existence of “Blue Monday.” It’s the day when we are far enough away from payday to have no money in our bank accounts. The Christmas holidays are but a distant memory, the decorations have come down, and everything looks grim.

One seasonal phenomenon that is very real is SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder). This time of year with its longer nights and shorter days affects many of us negatively. Spring is not a million miles away, but right now it feels like it is. So what do you do to feel like it’s a bit closer?

Book A Holiday

Yes, even knowing what we know about their dastardly scheme, holiday companies are onto something. A short break in the early part of the year can be beneficial. It cuts right into the seemingly endless period of long work hours. When you start in the morning while it’s still dark, and end in the evening (and it’s dark again), it’s enough to make anyone feel down. So take a short break somewhere sunny.

If you don’t have the money available, look around for possessions you can bear to part with. It’s surely better to sell Rolex watches or unwanted Christmas gifts than run up a credit card bill.

Giant Knitted Blanket

Develop A Nesting Instinct

Something often experienced by expectant mothers, a nesting instinct causes you to prioritize comfort. It encourages you to keep those you love close, and stay in a cozy, safe home. It can definitely make those long evenings feel a lot less dark. Pick up some blankets and throws in the still-ongoing January sales. Fire up your TV streaming services. Invite friends around for a night in and keep winter outside.

Appreciate The Beauty Of The Season

Yes, January has a lot to answer for. It’s cold, and you probably won’t get through it without at least one bout of illness. It begins with the effective end of the party season. You can feel vengeful towards it all you want, but look at the positives. It can also be one of the most beautiful months of the year. If it snows where you are this January, wrap up warm and get out in it.

Build a snowman. Throw snowballs – ideally at friends, as some strangers may not find it so funny. Relive your childhood a little bit. While winter may have its drawbacks, it’s an absolute gift for your Instagram account. It’s also a fantastic excuse to come back indoors and have the most luxurious hot chocolate you can conceive of. This is the month when you most need an endorphin rush – so get one!

My last day working at Pier 1 was early October. It happened to fall on the day when we received our first, and largest, Christmas shipment of the year. We’d been training for this since August- we knew the themes and had already dog-eared the Christmas goodies that we wanted for ourselves. I was thrilled that silver snow would be coming back as my favorite Christmas scent. I think this year’s version is called snowy birch– it’s on sale right now! From 5:45am to 3:30pm, in temperatures reaching the high 80s, I unloaded and piled up mountains of sparkly Christmas goodness and ended up with a nasty sunburn. While I don’t miss the wonky seasons of retail, I do miss that Christmas feeling in the store. Pier 1 knows how to do Christmas.

Now to the part that saves you money on your holiday decor: through Sunday, Pier 1 is offering 15% off regular-priced items and free shipping over $49 with the code 15FORME. I never decorate until after Thanksgiving, but it’s not to early to order your Christmas decorations. All my picks are under $50, and if you use ebates, you can earn cash back for purchasing anything from Pier 1 (and a ton of other stores) online!
