One of the biggest draws of the summer season is the fact you get to be outdoors and get stuck into nature. You get to book some vacation time and visit different areas of the country that are different from the places you see all the time. The best bit? The shopping! Being able to breeze around your favorite stores to pack for a different country, different scenery and different terrains is just part of the fun.

There are plenty of things you need to remember about your vacation shopping trip. You don’t just have to pack your t-shirts and dresses, but your accessories! Accessories and swimwear make up the bulk of a vacation shopping trip as these are things that will be different. You can use skirts and dresses at any point without going too far away from home, but vacation time means you are going exploring! You have the opportunity to sink your toes into the sand of white sugar beaches. You get to climb the nearest mountain on adventure hikes and explore the deepest areas of a rain forest. The world truly is your oyster and it’s only right you get to dress appropriately for it!

Pom pom sandals

When you take yourself vacation shopping, you need to shop to your destination. If you are heading somewhere that requires adventurous clothing for climbing, then checking out a shoe guide to understand exactly what you will need for outerwear is important. If you are headed to the beach then you’ll need to check out this guide on kaftans! Your clothes are going to really matter when it comes to going away on vacations and you should be open to suggestion. Heading somewhere hot and full of sunshine means scouring the best sunglasses, hats and wraparound sundresses. Dressing to impress yourself and feel confident in your own skin can have you walking on sunshine; even if you’re going skiing.

From head to toe, your holiday wardrobe should make you feel good about yourself. Be smart with what you buy, though. There’s no point in heading out for winter sun on a snowy slope but packing bikinis. Always shop for the climate and be smart about the shoes that you buy as well. Your footwear will go a long way to dictating your comfort level in the same way the thickness of a jacket does. Comfort is key on vacation. The whole idea is to relax, unwind and de-stress and if you can do those things simply by shopping right, you’re winning at vacationing!

The night before you go away, make sure you pack well for the plane. Include pressure socks or warm socks in your carry-on. They may not be the most attractive, but they will be practical. Part of vacation clothes shopping is practicality and you should plan well for your entire trip, including the part where you are on your way and on the way home. Choose and pack well and make sure that you absolutely rock whatever outfit you choose that day!

When you’re into fashion, summer really is the perfect time to have fun with your look. You don’t have to worry about wrapping up in layers to keep warm and dry, so no throwing on a big coat and boots with every outfit you put together. Instead, you have far more flexibility/ Plus Summer clothing tends to be more colorful and bold than anything you can find over the autumn and winter, so fantastic for really making a statement. There are certain accessories and trends that have trickled down from the runway and into our favorite stores, if you want to get on board here are a few things to try this summer!

Frasier Sterling Party Like It’s 1999 Silver Choker Necklace

Chokers

Chokers have been on trend for some time now, and aren’t set to go anywhere just yet. While big statement jewelry chokers are popular (and can look fantastic on a night out) when it’s warm in the daytime you could go with something lighter and more comfortable. Even bootlace style tie chokers can bring something to an outfit but won’t feel like it’s weighing you down. Other jewelry trends include asymmetrical earrings– something to try if you’re feeling really brave! And bold pendant necklaces. These are a great way to perk up any plain looking summer outfit.

Eye Catching Belts

Designers such as Alexander McQueen and Balenciaga accessorized their outfits on the runway with old, eye-catching belts- so expect to see similar kinds of styles hitting the stores this summer. Again it’s another easy way to perk up a simple outfit. Denim shorts, a tank top and sandals make a simple summer outfit- a statement belt could really bring it to life. If you keep everything else quite simple and go for one bold piece it brings personality without being overkill.

Oversized Sunglasses

Oversized sunnies continue to stay on trend in 2017- great news since they’re a flattering and easy to wear style giving you instant glamor. Plus larger sunglasses protect the eye area better meaning fewer UV rays to damage the delicate skin around the eyes. Be sure to try on a wide selection of sunglasses to find a pair that really suits your face size and shape. Aviators are a classic and are a style you can wear time and time again if you want something that makes less of a statement.

Knee High Athletic Socks

Knee high socks look super cute, the perfect addition to a pair of shorts. They’re ideal if you’re not too keen on your legs since they covered them up- and they also protect them too if you’re going on hikes or playing sports (or if it gets a bit chillier one day). All in all, they are a fun way to accessorize an outfit and can be practical in some cases too. Some designers have even showcased them with wedges and sandals, but if you’re not quite on board with this trend, you can play it safer with a pair of sneakers.

What trends and accessories are you most excited to try out this summer?

We’ve all had that moment where we’ve seen a photograph – or series of snaps – of a celebrity or style icon and gently gritted our teeth in envy. It’s not fair, we say to ourselves. It’s not fair that they can afford to have killer wardrobes and the funds to be locked in a permanent state of super-coolness, their style just oozing awesomeness. But, if you look closely, their enviable style isn’t the result of the clothes they wear but the little tweaks they make to their clothes. That is how they make even the most bog-standard and basic outfits look incredibly fashionable and undeniably chic.

More often than not, what separates the cool from the every day is a person’s ability to pull together an outfit that you would have never considered. They bring things together to create a style masterpiece. They have an eye for knowing what little things can create the freshest of looks. They know how to recycle old clothes in such a way that they make them look like straight-off-the-rack items.

It isn’t about having the funds to buy the most expensive brands, or about having a stylist that is qualified in bringing cool to the front of everything you wear. No. It is just knowing some of the best tips, tricks and hacks to reinventing yourself and making even your most bland outfits the epitome of cool. And here are the best of the bunch:

American Rag Sunkissed Knot-Front Graphic T-Shirt, Only at Macy’s

It Is Knot Impossible

We all have a plaid shirt in our closet, one that we bought ages ago because we saw some celeb looking like a total babe in one. But when we wore it, well, it sort of didn’t work out quite as we wanted to. It made us look frumpy. It gave us curves where there shouldn’t be curves. That’s the point. That’s where tying a knot in the middle of a plaid shirt, or any button-up shirt, will work to maximum effect; it accentuates your gorgeous curves by being pulled in at the waist. Don’t worry, tying a knot doesn’t have to mean showing skin because you could wear a semi-turtleneck shirt underneath to make your style more chic and less country lass. Pair it with a midi skirt and you are going to look wow.

Blank Denim Lost & Found Cuffed Jeans

Rolling In The Deep

When we buy a pair of jeans we do so with real caution. They need to fit perfectly. They need to do the job we want them to do, whether they are skinny, baggy, mom or boyfriend jeans. They are designed to look great as is. But the thing with jeans is, they are our most staple fashion diet, which is where rolling the cuffs up a bit can change your look entirely. Show off your ankles, maybe even get a piece of ankle jewellery. This simple hack has the power to freshen up every outfit, even that one you have worn one thousand times before. What’s more, this will accentuate the gorgeous pair of shoes you are wearing. In terms of how wide you make the cuff, that all depends on the cut. But as a general rule, skinny jeans should have a folded cuff and baggy jeans should have a rolled cuff. Distinctions make a difference.

Accessorizing Is All Killer

Everyday outfits are simple. They should be too. It is all about chucking something on quickly so that you can get out of the house and go and do whatever it is that you need to do. Even if you have a lunch date your outfit should be far more closely aligned to casual than made up. That’s where simple accessorising becomes your best friend because it takes away the casual feeling and makes it a killer outfit in the coolest of ways. Buying a set of gold hoop earrings is always a great move to make, as is a stunning pendant necklace, one that hangs low, or a set of bangles. But it isn’t all about jewellery. An eye-grabbing pair of shoes can work wonders, as can a clutch bag, one that completely clashes with your outfit, one that acts as a focal point. It could be that you are going out in a white tee and a pair of boyfriend jeans with some converse; why not make this pop with a bright clutch.

Lucky Brand – Turquoise Stack Ring II Ring

Be A Lot More Hands-On

When it comes to your hands, and more specifically your fingers, more is better. Seriously, wearing a ring is nice, really nice, but wearing nine rings is seriously cool and seriously chic. Stacking your rings is such an effective way to mix and match different styles of rings, different shapes and sizes. Just like with real estate, it is all about location, location, location. As a general rule of thumb (excuse the pun), but wear your biggest and boldest ring on your index finger and then start stacking rings across your other fingers making great use of mid-size rings. It is a sure fire way to make the high street your catwalk and gain an audience of admiring whispers.

Trusty Charm Socks

Always Put A Sock In It

For some reason, we are all worried about having our socks showing, but socks are a part of an outfit, socks are an extra edge, socks are something to be proud of. So, please, don’t hide your socks next time you are leaving the house. Let’s say you are wearing a pair of ankle boots and a nice thigh length skirt, a wavy one; you probably look incredible. But what will make you look truly wow while still looking casual, like you just left the house looking absolutely perfect without even trying, is scrunching your socks up? It’s hard to say exactly how much sock should be showing face above your boot because we all have different length legs. But there is a golden rule circulating among fashion bloggers and this is it: one-quarter of your lower leg should be covered. So pull up, then scrunch down, and don’t be afraid to experiment with different colors.

Snowbird
Tying ribbons up in your hair
Wishing that I could be there
Stay awake, stay aware- The Ready Set

I have to be totally honest here- I got the inspiration for this post from DC to a T. I follow Sarah on Instagram, and actually messaged her to see if she would mind if I stole her idea from one of her posts. Thanks girl!

I loved the idea of wintry items that don’t scream holidays. When I think winter, I think icy blues, cozy scents, and cuddly knits. It’s been a pretty mild winter thus far, specially considering that our one day with teen temps was technically in fall, but I’m hoping for at least one big snow so that Kendall and I can have a snow day together. Our plan is to somehow make it from Glover Park to the Lincoln Memorial to enjoy the snow- whenever it gets here. I also have my mom’s beef stew recipe so on this fantasy snow day, I’d put the stew in the crock-pot while we went out to play so it would be nice and hot and ready for us when we got back.

Until then, we have our cozy little apartment, an arsenal of scented candles, and warm wishes for days. What wintery things can’t you live without?
