Tag Archives: We The Kings

Good morning and happy Friday! I’m settling into my new position so please be patient with me as I get into a routine and figure out where blogging fits in now. This week was also big in that Kendall’s mom was up from Mississippi and we got to show her our reception venue. I swear, the Mayflower is not only gorgeous but they have an amazing staff who bent over backwards to take care of us.

Lately on the The CaroLøve:

Wedding things have been kicking into high gear and I’m getting more and more excited every day. I’m considering doing a post on all the vendors I’ve come across that have made life easier, but in the meantime, ~*gold star*~ of the week goes to Minted for their address assistant. Seeing addresses from my friends roll in has been SO MUCH FUN! Our save the dates are custom from a local woman, but our invites will also be from Minted.

Big props to my girl Alyssa of Naturally Me for accomplishing a huge personal/ career goal. Go check it out for yourself!

We The Kings released a new version of their song Stay Young with a very special guest vocalist. And tell me if I’m crazy but does Travis sound like Michael Jackson a bit?

I’m super into energy and cultivating the type of energy you want to surround yourself with. We’ve all heard of spring cleaning, but maybe a little 2/3 of the way done with summer refresh will be good for you and your home. via Town & Country

I have been exploring more of the south since meeting my Mississippi man, especially falling in love with Savannah + New Orleans. I have to try to visit these 20 Places Every Southerner Should See Before They Die. via Town & Country

Chicken is the first thing I learned to cook for myself… well maybe besides eggs. But this Everything Bagel Chicken takes it to the next level. via Kitchn

I’m partial top OPI gel manicures in shades of light pink, but I am LOVING this back to school Crayola mani. via Smart School House

There is such a thing as Arsen Cat and I love him. (Doesn’t hurt that he looks SO MUCH like my former Catmate, Puck.)

Last but definitely not least (I wanted to end on this and separate it a little bit from my other links + sales) -I don’t think anyone is ever prepared to find out that they have cancer, but one young woman I know is facing it head on and with such a positive outlook. I am truly inspired by Rachel, and I urge you to check out her blog~ especially the I Want to Help link.

Have a great weekend!

Congratulations – you’re in love! In fact, the idea of proposing to your partner has recently entered your head, and now you can’t shake it. When such an idea arises and you begin to think about it quite seriously, you’re going to be hit with waves of emotions. It can be difficult to get your thinking straight – which is precisely what you need to do before you actually pop the question!

I CHECKED YES

Are you ready?

Yes, it’s worth remembering that there can be a long time between the proposal and the marriage itself. Some people even wait years. But the thing about love is that it often makes us do stupid things – and while you may not want to think about an engagement as being in such a category, it’s undeniable that there are scenarios in which getting engaged may not work out best for everyone. You need to think carefully not just about the health of your relationship, but why you want to propose. If you’re just proposing because of pressure relating to society or your age, then think twice. This shouldn’t be something you feel obligated to do. Proposing isn’t something you do to prove your love to your partner! Make sure you’re comfortable with your reasons.

This is up to the couple, but Kendall and I both wanted my parents’ blessing before he popped the question. To some, that is an antiquated tradition but I’m very close with my parents. I’m pretty sure I asked him if they knew before I said yes. Make sure you respect your partner’s wishes as far at that goes.

The ring

There is a lot of advice out there relating to rings. Some will say you should spend as much as possible; others will make the argument that beautiful rings can be found for three-figure sums. Well, while the latter is true, you shouldn’t feel bad for wanting to spend a lot more, either. Remember, you’re both going to wear the rings for a very long time (we hope!), so make sure you’re happy and confident in what you’re getting, regardless of the price. Whether the wedding rings you’re going for are designer or simple but gorgeous black opals, ensure that you’re getting something that you and your partner are both going to love. Kendall knew I wanted rose gold + morganite, but he picked the setting on his own and my ring means the world to me!

What to say

Don’t lift a proposal that you’ve seen in some Hollywood romance and change some of the words around. Don’t find proposal examples on the Internet and change the name so it applies to your partner. There’s a lot of pressure here, and many would argue that a proposal is a brief performance of sorts. But whether your partner will say yes or no probably won’t hinge that much on what you say here! Your best bet is to speak sincerely. Keep it simple. Spend some time thinking about the time you’ve spent together, what they mean to you, how you met, and how you decided that proposing to them was what you had to do. Tell them why you want to spend the rest of you life with them. I barely remember what Kendall said because I was about black-out excited, but something about me putting up with his… ahem… nonsense, and always supporting him. You can go check it out for yourself on the blog post I linked above

The right place and time

This is often the most nerve wracking decision to make, oddly enough. Take into account the one you’re asking. I had literally told Kendall I wanted to be proposed to on Stage with We The Kings (not expecting it, mind you) but someone else might want something intimate/ private. You might want to pick a place that means something special to you- a first kiss or a first vacation spot. One of the sweetest proposals I have seen (besides my own) was actually a bar crawl to benefit breast cancer research when the bride had lost her mother that way. It was so special to her to have her mom “involved” and very that couple.

You’ve seen by now, from my Yellowcard post and my We The Kings proposal that music truly means the world to me. Before We The Kings there was Yellowcard, before Yellowcard, there was Simple Plan. Simple Plan came into my life from the same friend who brought me Yellowcard. Joanne and I used to rollerblade around her unfinished basement blasting the pseudo-angsty pop punk because Simple Plan just got us. We just wanted to listen to music and hang out with each other and get boys to like us. I remember sitting in the freshman hallway, listening to Addicted, and hoping that one day NAME(S) REDACTED would notice me. Then I’d finish my breakfast (Coca-cola though a straw?), get on Andy Dawson’s skateboard, and my CD player would usually be confiscated by Mr. Brown, only to be retrieved at break time a few hours later. Such a little rebel, huh? That album has now turned 15 and of course I had to celebrate with one of my favorite bands!

From the Simple Plan official site

Simple Plan was actually one of the few things Candace and I both liked at the time she died. She played basketball, I danced. Her celebrity crush was Nelly, mine was Aaron Carter. She was super tiny, athletic, and popular. I was the chubby, artsy, socially awkward big sister. But if Addicted came on, my mom discovered that separately  from each other that we both bobbed our head in an identical way. One other thing we both loved was Degrassi, and during commercials, the channel it was on usually played music videos too. Perfect was a favorite, and even though she laughed about how absurd their lead singer looked in his baggy pants and I thought he was kind of cute, it’s something that I’ll always remember as us enjoying together.

Kendall and I saw Simple Plan with Seaway and Set It Off Sunday night at Baltimore Soundstage. Although we’re getting a little tired of the hour+ drive, it’s a great little venue! Very friendly staff and a good size. I decided to splurge and get us Club Seats, which mean we had table service and we were practically on the stage! So worth it. The opening acts were fantastic hype-bands, and Simple Plan kept the energy up all through their set. I got to hold Pierre’s hand at one point, and you’d think I wouldn’t fangirl anymore- but I totally fangirled.

It was like coming home for be to be there, hearing them play their first album in full. I hadn’t listened to it probably in years, but I still knew every word. Having a fiance who will be there there and hold my hand when I get emotional and be tickled when I’m bouncing around like a cocker spaniel when I’m excited- it’s just so cool that music is something that we can share on such a deep level!

You can check out little snips of my night from my insta stories below!

What was your favorite band in high school? And are they still touring?

If you take away nothing else from this post, it’s that I am now engaged to the sweetest, most thoughtful amazing best friend fiance ever. In the world. I could not be more ecstatic.

I guess I’ll just start with the fact that I am a total freak. I have been joking fantasizing about a proposal at a We The Kings concert liiiiike since Kendall and I met and decided we would go see them together ASAP. However, when I finally spilled to him that this was my idea for how he should propose to me, he called it trashy and I thought that was the end of it.

A lot of factors went into making Sunday night possible. First of all- my parents somehow kept it a secret. It meant a lot to Kendall and I that he ask their blessings and he even invented a business meeting with his new company to throw me off so he could go to Laytonsville to talk to them. Then, he reached out to my dear friend Dana- she and her daughter Jess have become like family to me since we met in line at Warped Tour years ago. They, through Duncan, We The Kings’ tour manager, got me my all-access pass for Warped Tour this past summer. Dana set things in motion with Duncan AGAIN and somehow the three of them, plus other concert friends Elaine + Becka, didn’t let on all night that this was going to happen. Jess had spoken to the band early in the afternoon and they were all on board- all of the crew as well. There was a disco ball. You guys. A disco ball. All because a gaggle of people worked together to make the night so special.

Apparently there were many moments when I possibly could have figured it out- when Kendall had the ring out (totally missed this), when Duncan invited us backstage (another day another adventure with Jess + Dana), or when they pulled us on stage. I actually didn’t hear what was said so I just ran on the stage when Kendall grabbed me. I heard Travis say, “oh you guys can come up here too,” I though he was talking to Kendall and I and that Dana and Jess were the friends who were supposed to be up there. I froze for a sec thinking, “oh crap we were not actually invited up here.” Then Travis said something along the lines of, “you’re Kendall, right?” and you can actually see my reaction in the video- I knew something was up. I’d met the band several times- Kendall, not before we got on the stage that night.

Then I blacked out. Kendall said things and got down on one knee. I took the ring… and forgot to say yes at first. But yes, yes, yes infinity times yes. I cannot get over the fact that he did this for me. Thank you, my Everything for an unforgettable night. And thank you to Jess, Dana, Duncan, and the whole We The Kings team for helping my love put this together.

Thank you especially to Charles for including us in your vlog! Having my engagement caught for people who couldn’t be there means the world to me! I may or may not be watching it on repeat and crying. The part of the video with the actual proposal starts at 17:43.

I have some other pictures from the night- Jess and Dana actually got me a frame that says “She checked yes!” and I just have to figure out which one to use. It’s kind of funny- I wished that night that I’d been more dressed up or my hair/ makeup situation was better but come Monday, I just didn’t care! I am so grateful for the love that surrounds me and, really, that We The Kings music has brought me. I’m floating right now. I feel like I could keep going but nothing I say could accurately convey the joy I have in my heart right now.

Oh yea… and we met Frankie Muniz?

I love my life. And I can’t wait to spend the rest of it with Kendall.

Happy Friday, love bugs! I’m SO EXCITED- Kendall and I are going to see We The Kings (my favorite band) in Baltimore on Sunday. He couldn’t be with me at Warped Tour because he was on mission so I’m having a pretty OH EM GEEEEE!! moment. He’ll also be meeting some close friends family that I’ve made at other WTK shows.

This week on The CaroLøve

Dani relaunched Blonde in the District with a clean new layout AND a section for Bubbles & Bloggers that will streamline our event registration!

My dear friend Tiffany also just launched her own blog. Off White is a blog where Tiff is unpacking + dissecting the issues of the day, mostly how they relate to race. She is mixed herself, so it’s an interesting perspective and I think one that is often overlooked in a society that loves to place people in snap-judgment categories. While we don’t always have the exact same views on political or social issues (How can we? How can anyone? Every person’s experience is different), I can certainly respect this new platform for her and I’m excited to see it grow!

Speaking of race relations- did you know that U St. used to go by Black Broadway? Pretty interesting read about part of DC’s history.

Sure, I love a lot of the clothes that other bloggers post, but I can’t stop thinking about the t featured on Southern Anchors earlier this week!

Marisa from DC Style Factory weighed in on pantyhose. I personally HATE having my legs in leg jail, but sometimes it’s needed when it’s cold. I have nice legs, so why not show them off without freezing? Like I did here.

Stella & Dot is having a HUGE sale this weekend- up to 60% off!

Have a great weekend! Let me know what your plans are!
